Oh yeah I remember that.. That season the Pats went on to have the most consecutive victories, and won back to back super bowls.. That was a long time ago.. clearly that has nothing to do with this upcoming season..
The Milloy/Bills game was in 2003, the Drew/Wally Pip game was in 2001. Lawyer was a defensive captain, Ricochet was the 7th WR all camp.
Yes, he is right. Milloy was cut with a Super Bowl ring. If he was cut prior to the Lewis-Bledsoe hit, Milloy would not have a ring.
My comment earlier in the thread was in reference to people, you being one of them, getting up in arms about one team signing a few players from another team as if it is some sort of sin or embarrassment. My point was the Patriots have signed ex-Jets through the years, just like the Jets have acquired ex-Patriots. I don't understand why people have such problems with these things. Who cares where your team gets its players from? Do you get a box of cookies in the mail if your team only has "home grown" players on its team? (Either the 1978 or the 1979 Steelers were the last team to be able to make that claim, by the way). Also, the rivalry has existed since 1960- not 1996 as you seem to be indicating.
It's not really a big deal, but it's fun to mock you over it just like you did to us in 2000/01. If you want to get technical sure, all teams in a division are rivals, but outside of 1985/86 we had no real history and we were never good at the same time. Did you really ever feel a 'rivalry' with the Colts when they were in the East too? Before you took that fat pile of shit from us in 1996/97 we both hated the Dolphins infinitely more. In fact, I still do.
I can't speak for all Jets fans, but I didn't mock the Patriots for signing any Jets players. I just don't care. When a guy leaves the Jets as a free agent or from being cut I don't care where he goes. Yes, I felt a rivalry between the Jets and Colts.
You are probably not old enough to remember 1966, when Joe Namath beat the Patriots 38-28 to knock them out of a chance to play in the first Superbowl. It is still one of the most memorable football games ever, in my mind. And yes, as a Patriots fan, I certainly remember when the Bert Jones/Lydell Mitchell Colts were the Patriots' biggest rival. I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make. At various times all the division rivals have been important rivals of the Patriots. I imagine the same is true for the Jets.

The visit comes one day after Caldwell was released by the Patriots. It is possible that they have genuine interest in Caldwell, who led the Patriots with 61 receptions last season. Mangini is just playing smart, finding out what he can about his competion, theres no way were adding Reche, even though i would take him over Brad, Stuckey, and wright for fourth on our depth chart (if we got him cheap) but i dont think we'll pick him up.
I'd put it like this. If we're out of it, I'm rooting for anybody but Miami. If it comes down to you or them, or Buffalo vs them for the division, I'm rooting for anyone who isn't Miami.
Couple snippets from the Globe this morning.. Pretty funny from Vrabel.. How much of an advantage can a former player help the opposition by visiting them, like Reche Caldwell did with the Jets? "Reche barely knew our offense, so I know he doesn't know our defense. That's the end of that question." From Belli.. How much could a player like Reche Caldwell help the Jets by visiting with them on Tuesday? Could he possibly provide them information that could help in preparations for the season opener against the Patriots? Here is part of the Q&A from Bill Belichick's press conference this morning that touched on these type of situations: With those variables that go into an opening game, how much could a player who had been in training camp with one team and then visited the opposing team help that opposing team? In a game like this, as I said the other day, we played in the second game last year, we played in the middle of the season, then we played them in their last and our [17th of 19th game] last year, so I think everyone has seen everything they're going to see. Good stuff. I think that familiarity levels the playing field a great deal, even though the Pats are clearly superior on paper. It's like those great Buffalo teams in the early 90s. The Jets weren't nearly as good but they usually would give them a game and occaisionally beat them, save for the occaisional MNF embarassment. But we've had that with NE in recent years, too. I'd think on opening day we'll at least make it a game to the end, and when you do that anything can happen.
The Jets and New England both run fairly similar schemes and the two teams are playing each other this week, so it makes perfect sense that the Jets would look at Caldwell and Elgin
Its OK for one team to sign a player from another team. Like this year, we were overloaded with talent at LG, and sent Kendall to the 'skins.
