O-Line protection was terrible. When Chad hurt his ankle, he was so pissed off that he threw his helmet on the sideline. He was right to be mad. And, a little shabby for some Jets fans to cheer when Clemens came in while Chad was being worked on. It was obvious what was behind some of the cheers.

Defense: If the Fruitcake Lady was in the pocket she could have picked us apart. Brady had so much time he could have written his memoirs. Again, terrible. Brady running on third down in the First half after he had almost thirty seconds to make up his mind about it? Patriots turn that conversion into a TD. Terrible, and terrible. Return for a TD, terrible. I feel like Tracy Morgan. "That was just terrible." Hehe.

OK, it's only one game. But here's what concerns me. I'm watching the game saying this is winnable. It was a combination of the Pats being good and us looking like a JV team. Losing by a TD, or even by 10, you could say we hung in and where can we go next. Getting waxed when I honestly thought we'd be competitive? Ugh. So I was left feeling it wasn't so much the coaching, but the talent level. We just looked flat out bad, with the exception of some individual efforts. Grade: D minus. Maybe when I wake up tomorrow I'll upgrade it to a D, but who is to say.

I agree ST were extremely disappointing today...

I was most aggravated that the Jets staff allowed Burn-Me-All-Day-Long Barrett anywhere close to Moss. It became obvious very early that he was outclassed and Moss should have been doubled as soon as he showed was back in form, or at least put Revis on him (yes, the rookie, and sadly, he appeared to be our best cover guy on TV, and yes, I saw Moss beat 3 defenders deep, too). Our defense needs to get some muscle up the gut, whether that means Harris or 2 DTs I don't know, but the DeWayne Robertson experiment is a bust. Our secondary would look a lot better if the front 7 could get ANY pressure on the QB, too...

On offense, if Bender's the run blocker many posters seem to think put him in for Clarke. The pass blocking can't get much worse, might as well get something out of the LG position. We also need to get Leon more involved - Jones is our workhorse, but Leon's our most explosive offensive player.

Good observations. I disagree that the Jets are a weaker team than last year. The team is much better than last years team overall, we simply played a much better team today that exploited all of our weaknesses and we unfortunately also had a break down on specials that made it even worse. The Pats played really well today, they have a ton of weapons. Their secondary sucks but we couldn't exploit it because they were able to blow up our line without blitzing and Chad can't get the ball out and down the field backing up. We will do better against most of the mediocre teams in the league.

Lol, i like this one. We could have a great defense if we replace the whole front 7? Haha

The first of (no doubt) many posts this year with which I will agree, WB. Personally, I have a tough time knowing exactly how to interpret this game, and I feel the same way about next week - I don't think the Jets are remotely in New England's or Baltimore's class (although I do think next week could be closer only because of the lack of the Brady factor). I expected the Jets to lose this game, but I didn't expect them to look so bad at almost every phase of the game, especially when CP did just about everything he is capable of doing. I think it might not be until October, after playing a few of the easier teams that the Jets should be able to beat, that we'll know if this is the hiccup year many (including me) expected, or if the team needs to be completely torn apart.

it tells me our defense stinks b/c Chad and the O(even w/o a running game) were doing enough to keep us in the game but the D didn't allow it to happen and w/o a D you can't win.

It was also proven you can't win 3 road games then win a SB until that was disproven 2 years ago. The bottom line is Chad is good enough to win but we need to upgrade around him. They did a terrible job w/ the OL this offseason and have done a terrible job in ruining a top 5 Defense that they inherited.

Which is why Coles' best seasons have come w/ Chad when he also played w/ strong armed QBs pre-Chad and after he left NY.

You sound like the type of guy that believes you can win the lottery. Sure it's possible, but it sure as hell isn't playing the odds. Having a very good QB and home field advantage throughout the playoffs is a much better way to increase your chances of winning it all.

All the guy has done is win, he doesn't get any help. The only year he had help was 2004 and he played w/ a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. Last year he had no running game, a shaky Ol and a shaky D and all those elemnts look to be WORSE so far this year.

Were the Jets not ranked 6th in scoring defense last year, or something of that order?

That said, I hate the way we play defense against the Patriots. Nobody is a factor, Brady is never pressured and always has a high completion percentage against us. Hate it.

Baltimore won't have the same success. Look for us to win 17-13 there.

All I ever hear are excuses for the guy. An injury here, a defensive breakdown there, oh the running game isn't good, the line is bad, whatever. The facts are the guy can't stay on the field and has never won more than 10 games in a season. There aren't many 10 game Super Bowl winners, if any.

Herm made the playoffs 4 out of 6 years and now everybody bashes Herm. Somehow Chad is immune to any criticism however. Maybe when he's gone.

Look, I dont think Chad is the biggest problem on this team. I'm just under no delusion that he is a top QB, and I'd prefer a top QB if it were in any way possibly to get one. Those guys don't grow on trees though, and I doubt Clemens is one. So yeah, we should upgrade the rest of the team, but if Clemens is really supposed to be "the guy" the FO thinks he's supposed to be, at some point you've got to roll the dice and see what the kid can do. Why waste that draft pick if you're going to just go with Penny? Could have used that pick for either D or O-line which is pathetically bad.

That # was very misleading just like in 2003 when our D was 8th. Our D was awful the first half of last season and did a good job the 2nd half against some bad offenses.

What excuses does he need? all he does is win when he plays. In '04 he played w/ a torn rotator cuff, even w/ that we wouldn't have gotten past SD w/o Chad. In '02 he had Curtis at his worst and a medicore D, last year no running game and a medicore D. All the man does is win for us.

Herm didn't deserve all the criticism he ot and Chad doesn't deserve this insane criticism he's getting.

PROBLEM???? He's one of our best players, he's not close to a problem.

At that point they had no idea Chad would ever play again.

    Jets 2008 Draft plan:

Don't draft anyone who weighs less than 280 lbs.

We got blown off the ball on both sides of the line of scrimmage yesterday. Brady had all day to throw and Vrable spent half the game in our backfield.

Hard to tell yet based on 1 game. Mediocre teams can win 10 games in this league it happens every year. The Pats physically mauled us today on both sides of the ball. This league is all about adjustments. Baltimore has a much better secondary than the Pats but they might not be quite as stout up front, how that plays out, who knows. I also don't expect a washed up QB with much less WR talent and a much weaker OL to put up more than 20 points against our D next week. I suspect we don't give up a TD on specials either.

All the first game means is the coaching staff and team has a lot of work to do. I think we have a 7 and 9 team based on schedule and talent but if we get a few things turned around we might be in the mix for 9 & 7 or even 10 & 6. I wouldn't panic over yesterday.

Haha...I couldn't agree more. We have a team of softies that get blown off the ball. It's hard to watch.

Are you serious? The 49ers won 5 Championships with the WCO which nothing but 'Dink & Dunk'

Do we need to go downfield more? Absolutely
Does Chad or Clemens have time to do so? Nope!

i do believe you were posting a victory for us last week also. the ravens are a physical team like new england(i think even more so). i see the ravens D giving us another beating next week. if you watch this game, there's no way we have the talent in the trenches to match up with them, especially in baltimore.

We lost this game primarily because of our D and special teams, not our O. You think Baltimore has the same O talent that NE does? You think their O is going to match up with our D like NE did yesterday? Did it every occur to you that Brady is a top 2 NFL QB and McNair who was excellent is currently washed up?
