Ok we all know kellen is starting on sunday. Now here's the question. Let's say chad is 100% by week 3. What does kellen have to do to start week three if pennington is still healthy? does he have any chance?
unless he shocks the world there will be no controversy. the jets will play the run, run, short dump pass all game long. Be prepared for punt fest 07!
I'd say if Clemens somehow pulls off a win against this DEF on Sunday, that'll make for a very interesting QB controversy. What's so damned frustrating is, I feel like we do have talent on our Offense. We just need to get them the ball. If Clemens can play well despite everything that the Ravens throw at him, Mangini has some tough decisions to make.
A player doesn't lose his starting position due to injury unless his replacement is lights-out. Kellen has to play really well to take the spot, and even then it's not likely if Chad's only out for one game. What it will do is make the leash on Chad much shorter.
there is no controversy in Mangini's eyes. Chad is his guy and if he is healthy he will start anytime.
umm no, they dont have to dinkj and dunk with clemens. if they do its only cause of the o lines inability to hold blocks for the long ball. this isnt another knock on chads arm but i think people will see a different zip and timing. for better or worse. whats funny is the penny supporters who claim to be nonbias will shred clemens for a poor first start against the Ravens in Baltimore. either way were probably in for a long season no matter whos qb.
A very important rule that virtually any NFL head coach knows is that you do not make more changes at QB than you are forced to do. It throws the whole team off and creates doubt and uncertainty every time you change the QB. If Kellen Clemens were a journeyman QB in his 6th season then he'd give the job back to Chad after filling in for him. As a young player with a significant investment made in him and the heir apparent he's likely to keep the job if he wins. Putting Chad back in would just invite him to get re-injured or have a bad off game (he had 4 last year) and cause problems. If Clemens wins and plays decently he'll keep the job. Chad's chance to get it back would be off of an injury to Clemens at that point. That's just the way the NFL works. That's why Chad is doing absolutely everything he can to not let Clemens take the ball next week.
Their defense is incredible, but their offense is worse than their defense is good. We'll have a very conservative game plan and will take maybe 1 shot during the course of the game. It'll be mostly runs and screens and short slant routes until some time in the 3rd quarter where we'll take one shot deep in some sort of trick play. Hopefully, our defense plays well and get some points for us, because it'll be very difficult for our offense to get any. So with that said, Kellen needs to hit that one shot. If he does and Chad is out for a few weeks, he may keep his job.
I don't quite understand. Kellen is Mangini and Schotty's guy, they're the one who traded up to select him. Chad is solid, but if Kellen impresses, I see no reason why Mangini would switch back to Chad.
He has a very good chance of winning this game and by two touch down's I might add. The only thing against him would be if the coaching staff has their balls cut off and keeps a tight leach on what he is able to do.
This is it in a Nutshell. If Chad can jog he will play. If Clemens plays well the Pennington era will soon be at an end.
Deep down mangini knows Chad gives him the best chance of winning. Kellen si still unproven (at least in my eyes) WOuld i love to see him play...sure...but i also feel that Chad when healthy gives us the best chance to win
Winning it in one game? I doubt. If he gets a few good ones under his belt in a row, it would not suprise me in the least. Yes, Chad wants to come back, but if the staff decides to go with Kellen and he plays well, I could see them "resting" Chand and his injured Ankle.
If Kellen wins a game in which Most concede Chad would have lost to the Ravens anyway Chad might not ever play for the Jets again. I wish this would happen now so we can continue the rebuilding process but the reality of the situation is with that O-line Kellen does not stand a chance this week.
Kellen Clemens will have to be the talk of the week, and must win the game in order for Mangini to consider giving KC another start if Penny is ready to go
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Phil Simms out for the entire playoffs during the Giants' Super Bowl run that year?
