I think debating whether Clemmens can win the starting job in one outing is an academic issue. He won't win the starting job because he'll be holding a clipboard. Chad will start on Sunday and if he shows his usual character, nursing an injury or not he'll pull out a win.
theres def talent on offense, unfortunately its extremely thin on the O line... if our OL was better we would be much better off. unfortunately we have 1 lineman that could start on most teams (mangold), and the rest would be 2's on the better clubs in the league.
one thing we have to remember Chad played a great game against the Pats so he will not lose his job no matter what
its silly for the jets to start chad on sunday. hes got a high anke sprain from whats been reported, and balt has a solid pass rush. even if chad starts he wont finish...the team will be 0-2 unless they somehow find a pass rush and better blocking in a week. chad will be a sitting duck under center, and his limited mobility will be even worse. i dont want to see the guy get creamed.
The injury could be an out for Mangini as long as Clemens steps up soyes I think if he plays really well and we win it will get him another start then if he keeps it up he has a chance to take the job for the rest of the year. I don't expect it but he could if he plays really well.
If we do that, Mangini has FAILED miserably in his first big test. Kellen is not Chad and needs a different, more vertical game plan. If Mangini handcuffs Kellen like Werm did with Bollinger it will be a huge mistake.
Yes, yes he was...but the following year Hostetler was named starter by gay hooker lover Ray "the man" Handley...Simms goes down as one of the greats while Hostetler falls into relative obscurity. He was definitely the Gints Kotite...what a maroon!
He was drafted with a first day pick because they thought he would have the ability to lead this team at some point. The Jets can't afford to keep two starters on the team 2 or 3 years down the line when they are ready to challenge the elite NFL teams if we ever are. This week really isn't that relevant but if Clemens plays well and the team responds and Chad remains hobbled, we may have seen Chad's last game.
I've decided to bump down the Pats threads cause frankly this isnt a Pats board, i'm sick of hearing about them and WE NEED TO FOCUS ON BALTIMORE TO HELP OUR TEAM THIS SUNDAY!
When was the last time we beat the Ravens? Ask yourself this. If we win, especially in their own stadium say goodbye to CP. In fact say goodbye to CP anyway. Only one entire season has he played. Do you continue to make your entire offensive plays cater to someone who goes 5 yard pass, 3 yard pass, wow 11 yard passes. This is clearly a liability and NOT an asset. Teams lock and loadup on us because CP cannot go deep. What 15 yards is deep 2 you? At least the very ideal of a deep threat is enought 4 opponents to change their entire gameplan. That in itself is a victory in my eyes, making teams think twice. I'm going to Mikey D's right now because i'm lovin it!
There are multiple reasons that the Kellen Clemens era might be starting on Sunday. The big ones are: 1. Chad is hurt. When people get hurt in the NFL, and particularly when they are injury prone, they always have a tenuous grasp on their jobs. 2. Clemens was drafted to be the starting QB on the NY Jets. You do not spend a second round pick on somebody that you do not envision starting fairly quickly. You could be wrong on the QB's ability of course but then you don't have a backup you have a washed out pick and the guy goes away in due course thereafter. 3. The Jets are rebuilding in a big way. This is the perfect opportunity for them to evaluate Clemens without a huge problem in the locker-room. Chad gets some PT and sits for awhile and the Jets figure out if they need to draft a QB next season. If Clemens stinks the joint up for 4 games in a row then we know. If he plays ok then the team is probably his.
Chad's not going anywhere; he's the proven starter. If Kellen plays a great game or even two great games, once Chad's healthy he'll be back in. "Why?" you might ask; because he's still the better QB for the team...Kellen might have two great games, but once Chad's healthy you have to look at the choices the office faces:bring in an inexperienced QB who's had two good games or a proven successful one. It's just bad risk management to take the young, sexy, and statistically unclear pick over the long term proven winner.
