Tom Curran was on FSNE tonight and said he thought (info from mangini?) that the jets desperately tried to get their hands on the tape before NFL Security got it, to no avail, because the Pats security team wouldn't allow it. To me, it makes perfect sense. EM wa trying to prevent BB from continuing his practice of taping (for future games?). BB didn't. EM tried to stop it by seizing the tape, and it got totally out of hand. Personally? I believe it. Why else did Jet security fight for possesion for the tape rather than assisting the NFL security against the Pats security team? In the end, (if Cimini is correct), the State Police were brought in to resolve the conflict. If you watch the tape of the game, mangini was VERY upset during the game, before it got out of hand, after the altercation began (before halftime). I originally thought it was because the Jets were getting beat. Looking at it again? I think he was upset because he knew this could destroy a lifetime of relationships, possibly his career in the NFL, and certainly his relationship with his best friend, his mentor, his idol, Bill Belichick. Could this be one reason BB looks somewhat calm in the intervews? Or why the commish was pretty lenient in the punishment? Did Mangini go to the commish and make his case defending BB? Did BB hear his side of it? Honestly? I think this is the truth. It feels right to me. Mangini just doesn't have it in him to do this. He isn't the scumbag he would have to be to do this.
NFL security did not magically show up to confiscate that tape. They showed up because the Jets called them, as they should have.
Boyee do I love cut and paste .. http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showthread.php?t=61161 :breakdance:
Yeah, it's possible.. I think Jets security tried to take the tape, but when he refused to give it up, they called league security to confiscate it. Maybe they thought they would just get rid of it.. or give him a slap on the wrist.. who knows. Then things blew up from there and only got worse when the media found out. I agree, I doubt it was Mangini's intent to throw BB under the bus.. just level the playing field.
Thanks for the backup. Maybe he'll catch my followup post on that thread, about many of the members there. (And jet fans ask why I go to other team boards/?Just look on that board for the answer. ) I love the Pats, think BB is the best coach in history, but i reserve the right to question my team, and his decisions...and the Jets, and the Chargers, etc. I love NFL football and like to discuss it with others with opposing POV's.
Maybe I said it wrong.. No need for backup.. I was just saying about the cut and paste function.. Keep your shirt on...
Sorry for the overreaction - you saw the reaction the uber-homers had at that site. I rarely even visit it anymore because of that. They are nas bad as some other boards (ala the Chargers forum or the new 'improved?' indystar board).
Friends don't spy on friends, therefore Belicheat is hardly a friend of Mangini's and he owes that creep nothing but the back of his hand Maybe they were friends once upon a time, but that ended when Belicheat brought the Jets up on tempering charges {remember Deon Branch?}, the disrespectful handshakes, and certainly when Belicheat spied on Mangini's team Again, Just to be clear, Belicheat brought the Jets up on charges with the league BEFORE Mangini did likewise So for any Pasterik fan to suggest Mangini was wrong to bust Belicheat for cheating, they need to GET REAL
Haha seriously. While we're at it let's throw all police officers and prosecutors in jail, how dare they try and punish criminals?
What is all this apologetic sh!t??? Fvck Bellicheat and fvck the Pasterisks and all of their followers (unless they admit their shortcomings). Mangini is no less a man if he called security to stop this non-sense, he is more of a man if anything. All this... "Oh, his career may be ruined now" because he exposed the "God" oops my bad... the "Dog" of football. Fvck that whole organization and all of it's apologists. It's our time now. That ship has sailed. It's over for them. Kharma is a b!tch and they're all about to find out how much of a b!tch she can be. And they deserve it. Burn pasterisks burn!!!!!!!!
I can see your point of view on this given the info on that show, and while I like to believe that Mangini is a great guy, he is playing a cut-throat game against someone who wins cut-throat championships. This may be the info that got leaked by Mangini and Co, but like Br4dw4y5ux says, NFL officials were there to swoop on that guy once the taping scuffle ensued, it just seems like the apprehension happened in the manner of a sting. Another thing that makes me wonder is whether the reason Belichick was so mad after the Foxboro game last year was that Mangini changed his signals halfway through a quarter and the Pats had trouble adjusting to that, but that's another unfounded and unsupported theory.
The story is out there about what happened, from all the usual sources, ESPN, sportsline, and various papers...it's not a secret. The Jets security tried to confiscate the tape. The NFL security was there because NFL officials were at the game. It was the primetime game on opening weekend. The NFL security then tried to confiscate the tape. This scuffle lasted for the entire second quarter and into the second half. State Police were called in because it was getting heated and possibly violent. The NFL officials ended up with the tape. I believe Mangini was probably shocked and appalled at how this blew up. If you believe the "every team does it" theory, then it is nothing unusual to send your guys and handle it internally, without making a league issue out of it. I do not think Mangini necessarily intended to "blow the whistle" on this stuff, but what happened, happened. As far as the Mangini and Belichick lovefest, whoever came up with that part is just ignorant. Their relationship was warm when Mangini was with the Pats, but when it was discovered he was talking to the Jets, belichick had him escorted from the complex under the gaurd of stadium security...does that sound like a brotherly love relationship? IMHO, I think the reason this came out now, and not the former engagements between the Pats and Jets is this...... ....because it WAS handled internally on previous occasions! The Jets would bust the guy and take his videotape. Problem solved. This time, it just spiralled out of control for both Mangini AND Belichick. That's my take on it.
