The ability to stop teams scoring .Its no good putting the O into a situation where they have to score evry time they take the field. As hard as it already is.
I guess it depends on short term vs. long term goals. I think playing KC helps both our short term AND long term situation. Fixing our defense can't be accomplished in the short term, but it is a necessity moving forward.
#1) Defensive Scheme... Switch to the 4-3, all together, or at least mix it in a lot more. Also, press the WRs more, since it is obvious we can't cover them when giving them a cushion, at least try and delay how fast they can get into their routes... #2) QB Situation... I don't want to expand any more, because I don't want to start this debate in ANOTHER thread.... #3) Offensive playcalling.... We've got to runt the ball more, end of story.... There is no reason for Schotty to move away from the run completely after it is stuffed once or twice.... The only way the OL will get better, is if they get more chances to run block in game situations... And TJ showed last week that he is a better back if he gets a chance to get into a rhythm....
1. Lack of a pass rush: Our coverage is awful but even when we do get decent coverage, the opposing QB still has time to wait for a receiver to get open. 2. Schemes: Our coverage is only as terrible as it is because when we blitz, we blitz 8 freaking guys so that our corners are 1 v 1. We play no double coverage and our defensive play calls are easy reads. We never even overload a side or anything. Bob Sutton must go, he is not using our talent effectively 3. Chad Pennington: I hate to say it, because he is one of my favorite players, but this team is incapable of playing from behind. You cannot catch up to a team if every play is a 5 yard dump off. When every play is a short pass or a run, eventually he will get picked off or we will get stopped on 3rd and get forced to punt.
Are you trying to give me a headache? Okay, I guess it depends on what your goals are for the end of this season. The fixes are player acquisitions because our personnel is shit and we're still taking the Bradway approach. I think if we're going to fix the team, we fire Bradway's ass out of town and put Tannenbaum on notice. There are drawbacks of having an accountant as your GM, it appears.
i only differ with you on the order. i would start with #3, cause until the genius replaces the starter, the rest will not follow. if martz was running the jets, the defense would have a margin for error, since the offense would attack deep and be able to run and score points.hmy:
Defensive line. The defense will not jell until they get it right up front and the Jets will be at the mercy of any team with a half-decent defense until their own defense jells. QB is not the main issue. If Chad was the only QB on the team we would not be talking about replacing him right now, we'd just be going 5-11 and bemoaning the lack of a D. The fact that we have the potential QB of the future already on the roster and he's in his second season is why we're talking about Chad. Gotta go with the future when the present sucks or the future will be just as bad.
I'd say other: Defensive Scheme/Coaching but then realized that even if we did that we would need DL Help so I had to go w/ D-Line. We really need to scrap this Defensive scheme though, It just does not work w/ the players we have. It's hancuffing Vilma and the fact that our CB's are asked to give 7+ yards of Cushion on every play is mind boggling.
a number of us here got flamed for saying that you can't dink and duck your way to a trophy. well, noodle is not montana, rice doesn't play wr, and walsh is not calling the plays.
I can agree on that.... I wasn't really putting them in a certain order, just kind of listing my top three..
1) Go with Clemens. It is both a long term and potentially short term best choice. Long term we find out if Clemens is the QB answer and get him experience. Short term teams wont be able to put 8 in the box without fear of long passing attack. 2) Find a pass rush. If we have to sit back heavily in coverage forever just to slow the passing game, they can run all over the D Line. If your pass rush or your run D is bad, it hurts both because you have to overcompensate for the other and get abused by both in the process.
It is pretty obvious both short and long term what the needs are. Its a matter of doing the jigsaw in the right order and doing things like switching an entire 4-3 D to a 3-4 goes along way in the wrong direction. I feel like puking.
