You no longer need to mention Scott Kazmir as often. Now all you need to do is mention the name of Tom Glavine.
On paper you would think he would have been the best of all choices because of his many years in Atlanta. Then you have to remember Atlanta lost all those years but one. Still you would think his experience would have been a plus.
The fact that he sucks outweighs all of that. He had been insanely lucky this year posting a .288 BABIP despite having the 5th worst LD% in the National League. His FIP was also over 5.00 this season even before today's horrible start.
Because of what he pulled today, I really think Glavine is going to go down as one of the biggest goats in MLB history. The Mets pulled off the biggest collapse ever and they could have avoided it today, if not for Glavine. I now hate Glavine more than any other Mets player and that includes Vince Coleman, Guillermo Mota, and some other ridiculous clowns.
I hated it when they first signed him for the 2003 season. I don't want any Braves on the Mets. I hated the guy for years and years and then I'm supposed to root for him? Plus, he was already 37 and he obviously was not going to be great any longer. It turned out he never pitched great after leaving Atlanta. He bombed his last three outings this year. What an asshole.
slow down... they still only scored one run... plus they had the bases loaded in the 1st and 2nd and did nothing... Willis was teh suck & the rest of the Marlins pitching held them to 5 hits.. there's plenty of blame to go around
sure glavine had a bad game today, but i would put reyes as the bigger goat. he completely dissapeared in september. he was loafing out on the field earlier in the year...he has no heart. best SS in NY my ass...
Allow 7 runs before you bat after you've just blow a huge division lead? No team is coming back from that. For all sucking Randolph may have done, Glavine sucked major ass down the stretch. I count three terrible starts in his last three starts. The Mets missed the playoffs by a game. There is plenty of blame to go around, of course. But if you can pin it on one guy it is Glavine.
Reyes sucked down the stretch, but he is not a pitcher. Baseball is generally won or lost by pitching.
and the fact that omar put no real thought into the pitching staff is the reason the mets werent going to do squat. he hung his hopes on el duques, and a pedro return. maine pitched his balls off yesterday....but starting humber this late in the season for his first start is a clear indicator that this is more on the GM than any one person. willie is gonna catch aton of shit for this and he doesnt deserve it. reyes was a ghost, and if i were a met fan id be pissed about that. he was loafing mid season and become a non factor on a team he needs to be the catalyst for. sure pitching is important, and glavine should have def had a better outing, but this was a boulder that was inescapable. the mets pitching staff as a whole melted down...starters ERA over 6...bull pen ERA over 6....omar is to blame.
I didn't really watch many Mets games but all the hilights I saw down the stretch were: -Bullpen Collapses -Wright Errors & Strikeouts -Reyes hitting miserably That's pretty much what was on the News.... Was that on or was there more to it? kinda sux cause I had called the Mets in the WS this year...
You hit the major points except for one. The managerial moves left much to be desired. Believe it or not, there are several Mets fans here who think Wright should be the NL MVP even with all the errors and Ks and GIDPs down the stretch.
Check out this amazing post from exactly one year ago!!! http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=300504&postcount=19
It certainly feels something like that. What? Did you think I have reason to say anything nice about him? Surely, there are players you despise.
You really need to stop trumpeting yourself as some sort of master prognosticator. When many of us weeks ago could see that this team was a sinking ship, you insisted over and over that they would win the division, that the Phillies would choke any opportunity away, and that one poster in particular was actually a Phillies fan for believing otherwise. Not exactly Nostradamus-like. Glavine was absolutely horrible his last three starts, and as a result he will deservedly not be a Met next year. Having said that, you were wrong about him from April to mid-September, and without the team's 18-13 record before this horrific finish (where in 9 of the losses he gave up 3 earned runs or less) the Mets are nowhere near the playoffs anyway.
You know he'll prolly go back to the Braves and end up knocking the Mets out of the Playoffs next year...
My predictions as far as games and standings are as shitty as everyone else's. Too bad you didn't go for that sig bet.
