junc..... you have to admit that QB is a problem on the team. may be not necessarily in the stats but other teams just do not have to defend the NYJ at that QB position. all of the other problems are magnified by that and vice versa. the poor OL, poor run defense, and at best average running game are all made worse by our limitations at the QB spot. not flaming CP here just balancing a few things. we have a lethal combination of personnel and ability that needs to be addressed starting now and QB is not immune. oh and i see your comment about the chiefs talent. i beg to differ. the chiefs and jets are running neck and neck with talent, the gap is minimal at best. the difference is that the chiefs still have those 1-2 guys defenses have to gear up for - LJ and TG, regardless of who their QB is. the jets do have talent at those spots but it doesn't pressure anyone under the circumstances and won't for a while. jil
People seem to be forgetting this. Even ignoring the girl-like throws on the interceptions, he almost got our star put on IR!
I find it astonishing how we completely lower the standards for Chad. Any other QB who is as center to their team's success as Chad is is judged upon what the player did to help contribute to a win. Somehow with Chad, we have gotten to the point of judging him on whether it was his fault that he lost! Since when was this an acceptable means of judging the most important position on the field? Weren't we blaming Manning all of these years for the Colts failures? There are QBs all around the league right now on losing clubs like us that have heat on the QB (Drew Brees?) What has Chad done to deserve a pass and the suspension of all thoughtful and categorical reasoning? All we ask from Chad is to not be solely responsible for losing the game? Get real!
It is not a matter of hate. Watch the games. Jones cannot get yards because even the worst defense in the league sticks safeties in the box. they would not do that with Clemens in there. Or almost any other QB in the league. Teams clog the middle becaused they know Chad cannot bomb or throw the deep out. Chad was fine when all there was to replace him was Brook Bollinger or Quincy Carter. How good could these wide receivers be if they could use the entire field?
Your points are certainly valid. Chad's arm strength is only a piece of the puzzle as to why we are not going to the playoffs this year.
The never gave Jones a chance. I pulled most of my hair out yesterdfay watching 2 or 3 yard passes allday. Chad is predictable, KC needs to start next week.
Hey can some photoshop a couple of Jets logos on this image I might be needing it in the near future.
I am willing to give Clemens a chance if we lose against the Giants on Sunday. That said, I am not going to sit here and tell you that Clemens is anything but a rookie QB with next to no NFL experience. I have no idea what type of NFL QB Clemens will make. In fact, I have seen him look like crap more times then I have seen him look like the future of the Jets. One thing I would like to say is that last week when we won, the Chad haters were saying that Chad had a bad game because he only had 124 yards. This week his stats are MUCH better (minus the INTS) and we lost. For the record I would take last weeks performance EVERYTIME over this weeks. But I am starting not to believe in Chad as much as I once did. Again, I am definatley not saying Kellen Clemens is the answer, but I would not be 100% against starting Kellen if we were to lose against the Giants next week. Just to see what we have there in Kellen. I have never questioned Chad until this past Sunday. That hit on Coch over the middle was the play that finally did it for me. I, for the first time, find myself questioning Chad's ability to QB the Jets over the hump. But who knows, maybe this is just how I feel now after a loss like that. But man, seeing Coch get hung out like that really pissed me off. I don't care who is behind center, that shit has to go.
Chad hater here, last week I thought and said Chad played very well and said so as did many others. This is simply a fabrication on your part. Chad was good against Miami he was awful against Buffalo. He did have very good stats in both games. As far as Clemens, he looked much better than Chad in every preseason game although to be fair so did Tuiowhatever and so did Brad Smith. Clemens also looked very good against Baltimore. I really don't remeber Clemens looking like crap?
Yes we made a rookie qb look great..and yes Nugent missed a field goal. And yes its Chad fault that we have no running game...when a qb either cant or will not throw the ball more then 10 yards in the air...your running game will suffer too. How hard is that to grasp for the defenders of this guy. Let me explain it this way..is it easier to pick up 4 yards rushing from the middle of the field? Or is it easier to rush for 4 yards near the goal line. Do I need to explain the above sentence or do you guys "get it" yet.
It is also not his fault that the play calling was brutal, and that the secondary was garbage, or that we stopped blitzing after the first half. IT was a horrible, horrible game...
Nobody honestly knows what Clemens will do. A lot of people are simply done with Chad and ready to see what Clemens can do. I want to see Clemens succeed, and I've been saying that next season is the time to do so. I'm moving that up, but I still say I want them to be ready to give him a great chance to succeed. I don't think they adequately planned for him to come in this season. They need to start doing so. You would be absolutely right. Given the type of QB he is, I thought he had an excellent game last week. The gameplan has been developed to maximize his particular skill set and talents, and he acquitted himself well within it. This week, he absolutely failed in executing the gameplan. He used his skills to the lowest denominator and managed the game terribly, one of his two primary responsibilities. The other is accuracy, and the 2 INTs were the most inaccurate throws you'll see a QB make. Neither one was the result of good play from the CB. Yep. His timing is off, which kills his receivers. He ignores coverage and stubbornly picks his spots, which kills his receivers. The reason why interceptions are more important when Chad throws them is because accuracy is his hallmark. He failed in the one area he cannot fail. It would be like Vince Young standing in the pocket and taking the sack rather than trying to scramble on a broken play. It would be like Peyton Manning running the kind of 2 minute drill Chad ran yesterday. It would be like *insert coveted strong armed QB here* throwing nothing but dumps to the running backs all day. Those of us who support Chad have accepted the dinks and dunks because he has proven effective in using that to win games and, more often than not, take his team to the postseason. As soon as he loses his intelligent gameplay, though, he's a liability. I saw one of his dumbest games ever yesterday. It's one game, but it's not a good sign for a guy trying to keep his job.
I think because CP is a god like figure to many NYJ fans EM is allowing him to play himself out of the job so there will be no hew & cry from the fans when the change occurs. Those last 2 drives in which CP must have thought we are ahead instead of behind are really telling about CP & his arm IMHO
O enough of this BS. The guy can't throw. They are down by 3 at the end and he's throwing 2 yard pass after 2 yard pass with the clocking running out. He never had a good arm and now it's just miserable. His play at QB is totally unacceptable, he never looks down the field and he's deceiving cause he's a compiler. His numbers always look alot better then he plays. Yes, the defense stinks and that FG miss was awful but the QB play for the Jets is the number one problem and it's not about hating anyone. It's about putting in the QB who throws the ball. And don't be fooled that somehow this is play calling. The play calling is fine. The problem is Chad checks off the main play and dumps the ball off everytime.
It's not Chad's fault we don't have a running game and even if we open it up it's no guarantee we will have a running game. It's not helping our young OL having defenses not have to defend much of the field and I do believe if we could attack more of the field it might take some pressure off the OL and allow them to fire out instead of always playing on their heels but until we do it, it's still just a theory.
I am NOT a Chad-Hater! Let's be clear about this- it's been said over and over again... ...you cannot expect a team to play perfect football on every drive. In order for the Jets to score points, because they CANNOT make a quick deep strike with Pennington at the helm, they need to be perfect. As pointed out by Mike & Mike this morning, there are 4 teams that are undefeated, and their quarterbacks are: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Bret Favre, and Tony Romo. Each of these guys has advantages Pennington does not have, but each of these guys CAN THROW DEEP and create a deep threat that the defense MUST RESPECT. Yes, our defense has been putrid, but we will NEVER win big until we have a quarterback who can make the quick deep strike...period!
