if jets don't make playoffs and switching to clemens a bit too late is the reason why, will mangini be back?
Yes. Why wouldn't he be? If every coach who ever had a losing season got fired, there would be no more coaches left to hire!
Do you remember the horrible team he took in when he first came here? You had to be foolish to think we werent 2 or more years away from being an elite contender
What a ridiculous question...If anything, his nickname of "ManGenius" should be on the hotseat, not the man himself.
well, he apparently hasn't made them better, so what is the benefit of keeping him. and besides, before he took over, this team was 1 year removed from the playoffs and considered by some Super Bowl contenders going into the next. the team then went 10-6 Mangini's first year, so maybe the 4-12 season before was the fluke because of injuries to key players, and not last years 10-6 season. this was a team capable of winning ten games -- they did so two season prior. but now, the team hasn't deteriorated like the 4-12 season because of injuries, it has because of coaching, plain and simple. that is on Mangini. it isn't that the team is losing that is the source of contention with Mangini, it is that they are losing as a direct result of his decision making. I think he should be on the hot seat, especially when there are coaches who may be available next season who are undoubtedly better, like Bill Cowher, or dare I say Marty Schottenheimer.
I'm with ya on everything but this statement. Its purely The quarterback play That is effecting this team. The defense came along way to day ; How longs it been since you seen (1/2 half anyway) The defense causing pressure sacking Eli and just straight up scaring him. I'm actually glad they beat us by more then 3 points so I don't have to hear "if nuge would have made that field we would be driving to win it!? Its the Quarterback . Either its the arm? Or its his planting ankle . Mangini will seriously be looked at at this point because other coaches have already sat down their "Star" and gone with the other guy.
I've been quite a bit critical about Mangini lately, but I think I'll settle down a bit now. -------------------------------------------------------------- I've supported Herm for years of mediocrity - and it's only 2nd year of his career for Mangini. I'm not saying I embrace mediocrity with whole heart or not, but riding him out of the town after this season would be premature. So he made a mistake last off-season. Big deal. It will cost him a season, but then if he has learned anything from the past mistake, he will address the line issue this off season *and possibly next too.* He has failed me this season in the aspect that he didn't quite make the forward stride, but he did get two pieces on the roster that are here to stay *Harris and Revis.* It will take more than just a year or two to purge this roster of Boobway mistakes - so I am willing to give him a pass - but I'd love to see him making progress while doing so even more.
playing Chad is Mangini's decision, so that statement still applies. and that is the thing that is being lost in this fiasco of a season. this team isn't just playing poorly, they seem to be outmatched every week regardless of the opponent. I'll concede our lines are both lacking, but this team has talent on both sides of the ball, so regardless, they shouldn't be as inept as they are. it is poor coaching.
I know it was a different regime but Pete Carroll got fired after one , it Happens!!! Mangini is definitely on the Hotseat and with this teams efforts so far he should be.
I think this is total overstatement BUT...the disappointment i have with him this year is that, last year they seemed to "adjust" all the time. The complaint I had with herm (and see what herm did last year in the indy playoff game) is that he REFUSED to change anything even when it wasnt working. Mangini -- who i think is good and will continue to improve -- has become wed to his plan and will not change it regardless of the situation. Two weeks in a row they dont run. Two weeks in a row with fourth and 1, they punt. Last year, he seemed much more in control -- this year he seems stuck. I do think that it all comes down to the running game (o line). We cant run.
This coaching staff and game plans have been putrid this year; further – Manballboy has done absolutely nothing to improve the play of any of the players he inherited and kept or brought in himself. If anything – they have regressed. The team is further away from contending with elite teams than it has been in I can’t remember when; in last years Cinderella season – truthfully, the two absolute beat downs by New England and the shit loses to Jacksonville and Cleveland were probably a better indication of what we had than the 10 – 6 overall record. With that said – I’ll give him some time to make the quarterback change and then see what he can do before I switch him from Manballboy to Mankotite.
Or stop the run..for about the 5th year in a row. You would have thought THAT would have been the priority. We didn't need a RB..we certainly didn't need a CB when we can't stop the run. (The Giants ran for almost 200 yards and that was from playing behind most of the day. Manning didn't even have to pass) You look at the money and draft picks we wasted on those two guys and it should make you sick.
Clemens would not have taken this team, in its current state, to the playoffs. People forget the 3 quarters he had against the Ravens, he still has a lot to learn. However, now is the time for him to go through those growing pains.
It's Mangini's second year, there are a lot of holes to fill and you can't fill them all with one draft. Its a rebuilding process, Mangini wont be on the hot seat, but I do wonder what happened to the gutsy dynamic play calling of last year. Why has the coaching staff gotten so conservative?
Gentlemen, for better or for worse, Mangini will be our head coach for another 2 to 3 years. The only way I see Woody firing him, is if he spanks out a batch in Woody's drink at this years Christmas Party. Actually, I think that they'll keep him until the new stadium opens and if things don't improve by then, Woody would pull the trigger and bring in a whole new regime to build interest.
Vick, I don't think things are that bad. I mean, yes, it is doubtful that we will see the playoffs this year, but I do take into account that Mangini inherited an aging over-paid team; with many players on the downslide of the careers. He had cap issues to overcome, running back issues, O-line issues, defensive issues - you name it and Mangini pretty much had to deal with it. I think it was darn near miraculous that we made the playoffs last year even with the softer schedule. This year is different. While we did pick up 3 good players in the off-season, it is quite apparent that we were much further from being an elite team than acquiring a few players. Now, do we have a QB issue? In the sense of Chad is now starting the waning years of his career and does not seem to resister the same productivity this year as he did last year, we are approaching it rapidly. I will also say that Chad is not getting good support from the Defense at all. The 3-4 is not working or what ever you want to call it - it's not there. The D played good for 30 minutes yesterday and then took the rest of the day off - really a key reason why we lost. The offensive line is having major difficulty establishing any respectable ground game - TJ has been a non-entity. So it is not all on Chad. Chad made some fantastic throws yesterday, but he also made some throws he should not of and looked very bad doing it. Definitely responsible for a 7 for the Giants and possibly 14. I think in another game or so if we are 1-5 or 1-6, why play Chad? It really would not make any sense unless you were committed to knowing that he would be your QB next year. Plus, Chad would be much more marketable if he wasn't recooperating from a major injury next off-season. I do not think that is the case. Clemens will get his chance this year and for multiple games. I do not look for him to completely right the ship. He, too, will need good play out of the rest of the team in order to succeed.
