Can we PLEASE put to rest the myth that a salary cap brings "parity" to sports?

These Patriots looks unstoppable. The best team I have ever seen, as of comparison to the rest of the league. If Indy can't have a competative game against these Patriots, then I don't think any team will.

Salary cup does have a impact to sports. If there isn't one then teams like Dallas... Washington... will have a all-pro teams. But you do need a good Head Coach though.

A lot of that has to do with great drafting and decision-making, I mean it's not like they have different rules than everybody else.

Irrellevant - Salary cap is SUPPOSED to bring Parity, and it hasn't. In fact, there is less parity than before.

Yep. Same thing happened to the NBA. To win consistently with a salary cap you need great ownership who will identify and hire great GMs and coaches. Most teams don't have great ownership and they can't spend their way into the mix.
    Hence, less parity.

The salary cap isn't designed to bring parity, it's designed to bring fairness, by making everyone play under the same rules. As noted above, that makes the ability to build a team and coach it up that much more important, and means that poor GMs and coaches are always at a disadvantage.

Don't blame the Pats for this

A lot of GMs sat on the sidelines when Moss and Thomas were traded for and signed. Thomas would have looked great in a Jets jersey this season.

    It's a fair system.

I never blamed the Patriots. They are doing everything they have to win. I blame the NFL for introducing a system that was supposed to bring about parity, yet has done the exact opposite.

For all the bitching that people do about no salary cap in MLB, there have been many more different champions of of baseball than the NFL the past seven seasons.

And not just those two either. Welker and Stallworth are just as important. I remember half the people here laughing about Welker. I'm sure they aren't now but that just goes to show how dumb some people are. I was trying to compare those three to the best the Jets have ever had and about the only thing I could come up with is Toon, Walker and Chrebet for their comparable positions and roles.
