I think 7-9 is possible if the team starts finishing games. That's the only reason we've lost 4 in a row. We've been in, or even led (double digits) every game.
Usually I don't agree with what you have to say, but I think you're spot on with this one... Our offense is VERY talented.... Even if KC comes in and is only decent, and makes his share of rookie mistakes, I still believe our big-play ability will increase exponentially, and, barring horrific playcalling, we will be able to hang 20+ on most teams in football.... Unfortunately... Every team on that list appears capable of hanging 50 on our defense..... So we'll have to wait and see....
I don't think our win/loss ratio can get any WORSE by having Kellen in, but I agree and don't think it can get much better... I say maybe w/ Kellen in we go 3-13, where with Chad we might go 2-14... The schedule is ROUGH...
You know, with the loss that is coming to us the next time we play New England, "duh, loss" is an incredible understatement. I hate to say it, but I think this game is going to be one of the worst losses in this franchises history. Bellicheat, with his total lack of ethics, morals, and class is going to RUN THE F'N SCORE UP on us. Especially after how he perceived Mangini of "ratting him out". That loss is going to be bad. Of course I still hope for the best. The best being a win at Foxboro. But, seriously, I'm prepared not only for the worst, but maybe THE worst ever.
I'm going to do a split prediction, because I think there is one HUGE variable in how the season plays out: If Kellen Clemens is the starter against Buffalo on Sunday - 5-11. Wins against Buffalo, @ Miami, Cleveland and Kansas City. If Chad Pennington is the starter against Buffalo on Sunday - 3-13. Wins against @Miami, Kansas City. They might be a game better or worse in either scenario but this team is definitely not winning more than 6 games this season and they're not going to lose out.
If nothing changes on te team from its curretn state of affairs 1-15 is not out of the realm of possibility. I don't think you ar far off if we stay with the 3-4 that doesn't work at all, and stay with Chad. Put Clemens in and work at making the 4-3 work and we could finish with 5 -7 wins. Putting Clemens in and keeping the 3-4 and we may go 4-12 at best. What makes this so hard is that in 2005 we had very real and valid excuses - this year; there are none.
There is one very good excuse for this year: the front office and coaching staff just have not done their jobs adequately. This is a root level failure that started in February and has been gaining momentum ever since and with each passing week, as the defense and the offense continue to fail, the people running the team lose more credibility.
I'll bet just about anything that if Cam Cameron had the choice of cutting off his left pinky in order to go back in time and take that statement back we'd be calling him 9-fingers...
I dont think so. I think if Pennington isnt hurt against NE, we probably win 3 of the 5 we lost. Possibly 4. I know he's been bad since he got hurt, but I think the ankle is still part of the problem, and its not like we are getting blown out, inspite of that. The tendency will be to argue, but its irrefutable that with competent QB play, we should have picked up 3 of the 5 lost games.
Chad is done man. Let it go. The only joy left in this season will come from Clemens if he is the real deal.
@Buffalo and Philly should have been wins. @Giants and @Cincy maybe turns into a win between the two of them. Let's be realistic here: Chad does not beat Carson Palmer in Cincinnati and Eli Manning in most games given the supporting cast. I think if Clemens stays in after Baltimore that the Jets win Miami, @Buffalo and Philly and have a better chance to win against the Giants and Cincy than they had with Chad. In either case this teams is 4-3 tops at this point and probably more like 3-4. Competence in the NFL is determined on the lines and the Jets are incompetent at that basic level.
Well you're right. Unfortunately, it is not the type of excuse one wants to hear. Player failure is one thing, but coaching failure is serious.
With Clemens at QB, I can see us winning some games. Remember the 1-6 start in 99 and then lucas came in and we went 8-8?
All based on 1 decent quarter of football? I really wonder if people around here are willing to give Clemens even a chance to succeed. Before when we were losing, it was Chad's fault. Now let's see who gets the blame when we lose.
It's not because he would be great... It's because with him in there, our offense would NOT be half as limited... With a guy who can effectively get the ball to our weapons down the field, we would have won at least 1 or 2 of these games that we've dropped... The point is not necessarily the QB... The point is utilization of what we have on offense...
You don't know what we would have won with Clemens in there. It's also entirely possible that he would have made a ton of mistakes and we could have lost by more. I just think people are setting themselves up for disappointment. If he comes in and plays lights-out, then great. I just wonder what the reaction will be if he comes in and struggles like just about every other young QB. The question becomes, how long are people here going to give him to take his lumps? Five games? One game?
I hope we go 1-15 and get the number 1 pick. Then I hope nobody will trade up with us to get it. Then we'll see if this FO has the balls to actually draft a skills player or totally throw the pick away on another lineman and become the laughing stock of the NFL as Houston did 2 years ago.
