I know things are bleek. 1 - 7 is a pretty deep hole. Just keep this in mind. In 2002 with Chad replacing Vinny the Jets came back to win the division with a 2 - 5 record. Now I am no way insinuating that the Jets can win the division because thats obviously out of the question. In fact I'm not even saying the Jets will make the playoffs. What I am saying is that this year at 1 - 7 the Jets have KC replacing Chad. He may have a killer year and get us close if not in the playoffs. If we win out the second half then its possible. Keep in mind just as quickly as we went 1 - 7 we can go 8 - 0. I know this team is not great and I'm not wearing green shades. But I know one thing for sure. This is not a 1- 7 football team. They are severly underperforming. But just keep the faith until we're mathematically eliminated because in the NFL anything can happen!! Mangini needs to utter one simple phrase. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!! Today Jets Win 24 - 17 J - E - T - S JETS JETS JETS
9-7 is not making the playoffs this year. You have 3 teams at 5-2 or better in the AFC South and 2 other teams in second place at 4-3. That makes it quite possible that 10-6 will miss again as it did 2 years ago.
Things to watch: 1. Kellen Clemens, Jerrico Cotchery, Nick Mangold and Leon Washington on offense. 2. David Harris, Kerry Rhodes and Darrell Revis on defense. 3. Pray for no serious injuries to any of the above. And when the hell did D'Brick get so skinny again? I swear he looks like Jevon Kearse about three years ago. I just suddenly noticed after his second penalty how much of a stick he has become. I bet he does not weigh 300 lbs right now.
Thomas Jones is gonna be an elderly runningback by the time the Jets are good again. I'm not getting attached to him because the odds are excellent he literally means nothing to the next Jets playoff team but dead cap space.
Contention is going to have to come to the Jets instead of vice-versa if this happens. Could they go 9-7 next year? Yeah. Better than that would take one of the all-time great offseasons, and I don't see that happening. Or bringing in somebody like Cowher to right the ship.
What they really need to do is to figure out what they are going to do on defense and then get the players that fit that conception. Watching this 3-4 is like having knitting needles plunged into my eyes once a week like clockwork. Seriously, there are no players that they could draft to fix this 3-4. They need to build a GOOD defense from scratch because only Belichik and Pioli could have put together that group of apes in New England,
