Judging by Adrian Peterson burning the Chargers for a NFL-record 296 yards, Cottrell's poor run blocking schemes have followed him to San Diego.

It's hard to believe that guy was this close to getting the head coaching gig here in San Francisco.

That's the game I'm thinking about.

The best thing about it is the agita it will give the oddsmakers trying to set the line. I'm thinking there's a chance it will be taken off the board completely when the calculator says 27 to start and everybody is taking the Pats -27 anyway.

You know how good Ted Washington was against the run in his prime?

    A. So good that the Buffalo Bills run defense was ranked in the top 3 in 1999 despite having Ted Cottrell as the architect and primary play caller on defense...

Actually, we are playing the '76 Bucs team after the season.

Right now we are a 3.5 point dog.

The last questions was a good one, the guy said "If Kellen provided the team with some sort of spark today, but the offense only put 13 points on the board, then how did he help do anything different from what has happened the last few weeks?"

Eric said he would have to look at the tape, but what he should have said is that the WRs dropped some important and easy catches that could have led to a lot more on the board, and also maybe admitted that 17 carries for the RBs is far too little.

Yes, but that would ruin the tactic of using Screen passes to set up the 5 yard out for the next play.

Which was all a roundabout way of saying that the receivers and possibly the offensive coordinator were just not prepared to play a very winnable game today.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that he did not do his job (again) to prepare the Jets to have the best chance to win.

Last season Mangini worshipped at the Altar of Chad for a reason, because without Chad staying healthy and winning a bunch of very winnable games the Jets would have gone the 5-11 or 6-10 we all thought was likely to happen.

That of course suggests that Mangini adds no value to the Jets as head coach, and based on this season seems to be actually subtracting value.

It was his first start as the starting QB for an NFL team, the Jets. He comes from a town with 3 stop lights. I say he gets a pass for todays loss.

Nobody is suggesting that Clemens did not give us his best effort today, nor that he did anything but validate the decision to use him. The general tenor of the press conference and the growing criticism of the Jets is that as a team they are not prepared to play at a reasonable level from week to week.

I give Mangini 3 more losses before the death watch begins. Two of them I think we can predict with some certainty. The Jets will be playing for Mangini's job week 13 in Miami. In my opinion a loss there would seal his fate.

I think it is too early. SOme time next season if he refuses to change the scheme to use personnel properly and the team continues to perform the same way in the same systems.

He needs to man up and do with the D what Billick did with Baltimore's offense alst season is he thinks he knows how to make his ideas work so well for us.

If Mangini felt there was any chance, any chance at all, that losing games in his first two years would get him fired, he would have been playing the 4-3 since day one, and would be sticking with it until at least one more draft.. He's more concerned with building the team he wants than with appeasing his boss, and its not because hes stupid, its because he knows he won't get fired and he's got time to build the team the way he wants.

The Colts and Pats are the two teams right now who tower over everybody else in the NFL. They've both had the same coaches for most of this decade (I believe Dungy was hired in 01?). I know fans are impatient, but honestly, talking about firing the guy halfway through his second season is insane.

Yep, I agree, I think he was complacent with what he saw on his squad and thought that work ethic, and the intangibles make up for talent. Also, some responsibility goes on Woody as well. They seem to try to assemble the team on the cheap and this is the result. The defensive line need forklift upgrade.

Yesterdays game depressed me because I realize we aren't good at RB or WR. Cotch is not a No. 1 guy and Brad Smith is not close to ready as an NFL WR. With Coles age and concussion issues we clearly need a No. 1 guy. I can see why Jones was let guy by Chicago. He isn't that good. He would not see the field on a team like the Skins. This team is going to be bad for a long time, there is no quick fix.

I would also unload Shot this offseason. Way to cute with nothing to show for it.

    Lets not get too hasty.

Smith is a development project, and not a bad player With Coles out, any competent team should be able to shut down Cotchery.....

Everyone was saying in the off season how GREAT we are at WR.....I liked the Stuckey pick, but now thats stilla 2 year project....

But yesterday, losing in OT in Clemens second start with one real WR...and a problematic OL, (and a disgusting Defense)....Was not as bad as everyone seems to be taking it.

P.S....That Cotchery fumble....I Dont recall seeing him make a 'Football move'

    I totally agree.

Mangini was a total unknown, and Cowher is a total package, A$$ yes but he is a good coach and judge of tallent.

Cowher gets the right people for the system and places players in a position to over achieve.
