I don't think we are that far off from being pretty good. Granted, we are not going 13-3 next season. The focus this off-season as I have said repeatedly before: Get an OG and OT through FA Possible NT through FA; otherwise draft. A speedy WR wouldn't hurt, but let's not forget about Clancey Stuckey who did show promise. I still would say that if MacFadden is available when we pick, we should probably take him, but I do not think he will be available. That might be better in the long run because it would probably force us to take best Defensive player available. Which could turm out to be a pass-rushing DE or possible NT. The bottom line is if we make our offensive line better so protection increases and we can open actual holes for our running backs our running game and passing game gets better. Our offense becomes much more balanced. Defense - again simple. If we are hell-bent on the 3-4 then we better get a massive 360+lb NT. Irrespective, we must use FA and the draft to insure that we are infinitely better against the run and we also have to immprove greatly on pressuring the QB. Right now, I classify us as being good in the backfields on bothsides of the ball and also very respectible on Special Teams. It is our lines that need bolstering annd replacement parts.
I could be wrong on this but I think Westhoff is already Assistant Head Coach and giving Mangini a lot of feedback even during games. Whenever the game is tight in the 4th quarter and the camera moves to the Jets sideline it seems to catch Mangini and Westhoff talking.
It's true the long prep times gave the coaches an advantage however the two opponents we beat were both struggling at the time and that's probably the bigger reason we won the games. I really don't think the Jets can beat a solid team at this point. We can beat Kansas City and maybe Tennessee if Haynesworth goes back out but it's going to be really hard to beat Cleveland and no chance at New England. It'll be very interesting to see how the Jets approach the offseason. Going out and getting the wrong free agents will be as devastating long-term as not signing any. Consolidating in the draft again would be organizational suicide. So far this management team is trending towards signing non-impactful free agents to money-gobbling deals, trading future picks for mediocre fillers and bundling picks to move up in the draft. If that trend continues we'll be on the bottom of the heap for several seasons.
Jarvis Green is the real deal....don't be fooled...he would start over most current starting DE's. Hobbs is even debated around here. He is what he is.
I was a darksider when Chad was in and now with Clemens I can see the light. He is 2-3 as a starter and should be 3-2. The bomb to J-mac brought light into a dark season. With Kellen at the helm there is no reason we can not win 2 out of the next 4 games and possibly 3 out of four with a few lucky breaks. I still dwell in reality and it will get Ugly in NE. With a few good draft picks the Offense can be decent next year. The Defense will take 2-3 years but it will happen.
with 6 dolphin turnovers we win. their o-line sucks as bad as ours. but since we did win the sunshiner's came out from behind the clouds. with that huge victory over the phins, we deserve a party song. take it away john denver...."sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes makes me cry"
How many guys on the team have been signed since he's been here? Quite a few. Clemens TJ Leon Clarke Mangold D'Brick Montgomery Bender DeVito Kenyon Mosley Dyson revis Harris Poteat Smith Smith Bowens Re-signed BT Plus the FAs and stiffs (Schlegel) they signed and since cut. Do you really think he's done a good job this year? He's coached with his head up his ass all season. They have been outcoached by every staff except the Fins. He is chiefly responsible for the personnel (materials) that are on the team. If you think tanny is overruling him on who to play and who to keep on the roster, i think you're delusional.
who is in charge around here? to this forrest replies..."you are drill sergent!" "you are a --- ---- genius gump!!!!!!!!"(quote from forrest gump) how true you really are. mangini is a frog pud!
Well said deathbyJets. well said indeed. Lets continue to build our OL and DL. Some through the draft ad some through free agency. Use free agency for a top WR and a TE. By the way, where is our fullback for blocking and catching off the back field? We really are missing that very special feature.
Good post... This misconception that Mangini is somehow hindered by the personnel, and therefore excused, is bogus... In two years, he has done everything he could to form this team to fit his scheme.... It wasn't like we were cap strapped.... Mangini has been terrible in games, and mediocre in bringing in talent to help improve the team.... How he is somehow excused from this mess is beyond me
I think Mangini has complete control over personal. I think he has had two terrific drafts. I think the move to get Jones was a reasonable move. Some of the FA's haven't panned out and they overspent on a couple. He also inherited a team with no QB, no Running back a weak WR corp almost no OL a bad DL and Linebacker corp and a decimated secondary, another words a complete from scratch rebuild. I would expect the team to have won 3 to 5 games last year and 5 to 7 games this year based on personal and I predicted 7 in my optimistic preseason post. What did you predict 10 wins based on going to TC and seeing Chad's pain free with a rubber band for an arm? What Mangini did last year was incredible, you can't fool the league forever. The talent on the Jets that he inherited was piss poor, it was an old team that had made a couple of runs and was essentially spent. That's why Herm quite on the team. It looks to me that we have drafted very well and we have not gone after any real prime FA's because it just doesn't pay yet until we have enough good young talent and have established a QB to build around to spend the dough. So yes we have brought in essentially cannon fodder and hold the fort players who have busted out elsewhere. Not to mention that Chad is hurt, Vilma has been hurt, TJ was and probably still is hurt and Coles has been a shell of the player he was last year. The only real mistake I see was the handleing of Kendall who should have been traded or cut in the off season and handing the job to Chad although I don't think bringing along Clemens a little slower would have meant any difference in our playoff chances this year which I thought prior to the season was zero.
Last year was the worse thing that ever happend to this team. It made people thing that we were not as bad as we are. We are not a good football team and we are years away. Billy Bel could not coach up this mess!
IMHO where the wizards Mike/Eric erred is after last season they totally over evulated the roster & did not match them up to the NEPs roster which is the team we had to overtake. Naturally the reverse occurred whereas the NEPs roster spiked way up while ours spiked way down straight into the crapper. It is really a simple equation & naturally the PK incident did not help either because they figured he would be playing for us in 07
You can keep telling yourself that, Fourth, but I disagree with your entire post. It's nothing personal- we just will have to agree to disagree.
