This has been a dissapointing season - and yes we beat up on the worst team in the NFL yesterday. Sure we got clobbered by the Cowboys - after upsetting the Steelers...but, I like some things I see...

-Clemens seems to be pretty decent and has the ability to be a good QB. How good is yet to be determined. He didn't have time to breathe against the Cowboys, but with just a bit more time - nothing special - but a bit more time, he was impressive against Miami. The Dolphins have been a pretty good defense all year - they did come hard at Clemens, and he showed a lot. Maybe the best he showed was when he was able to throw it away off his back foot, avoiding a sack and interception. If Pennington had thrown that ball it would have gone BACKWARDS! A couple of nice deep passes, and some other sharp balls. He has the arm, and given the time, maybe - just maybe he'll be the guy. By the way, he did it without his favorite WR Cotcherry yesterday.

-The Oline - yes the Dolphins came hard but the Oline did better. Dbrick isn't what I had hoped but he's solid, and I still love Mangold. We do need some other pieces here, but we have two really good young building blocks.

-Who doesn't love Leon Washington? He's a perfect fit - the kind of guy you hate if he's on the other team - he just kills you! If we can block for Jones - then we'll have quite a running tandem/game.

-We could have an awesome DBackfield! Rhodes is a Pro Bowler, and showed it! He has been hindered this year, but has come through late. That interception was awesome! Revis can also be a Pro Bowler at CB.

-Harris is awesome, a tackling machine. He could be a Pro Bowler...so now 2 DB's and one LB can be Pro Bowlers - can you build better on a defense?

The other thing I like is how personal the Jets took being underdogs. They played with heart and fire. Whatever hurt them earlier this year - the Kendall thing or the Revis holdout of whatever, they've gotten over it, and are playing hard.

Kellen will be a good QB...the offensive line isn't buying him much time at all...We must fix that in the offseason.

I love David Harris and Darrelle Revis...Harris has just been outstanding and it looks like Revis is gonna be the solid #1 CB we have needed ever since Aaron Glenn.

I agree, Kerry Rhodes is a good football player...he is a pro bowl caliber player, but he still needs to kick it up a notch because he still has room to get better.

Leon Washington has NOT been used nearly enough! He is a playmaker! the guy has to get 10 touches a game. whether it is returning the ball, running it, or even catching it. Gotta to get it in his hands.

There are bright spots on the team for sure.

Over use LW and he will not be as productive as he could be. He is one of those high motor guys that needs breaks to put the bursts in. Being so small he has to be fast and elusive , he won't be if he gets handed the load.

Interesting thing about Clemens, there seems to be debate on who his favorite target is. I originally thought it was Jmac, then it was pointed out to me by a poster here that it seemed to be Smith. After reviewing some drive charts that appeared to be true. Then this post states Cotchery is his favorite target. I think it's a good sign that people can't really tell just by watching the game...means he's getting most of his weapons involved. I do wish he'd look for Baker more though, I think he's one of our most under used resources...the guy can catch the ball.

I agree I saw postives yesterday as well. Which made me realize how bad the Oline really was.

I would like to see Kellen Clemens be some what mobile because he isn't so far but he doesn't make stupid decisions which I do like.

The RBs are OK if we give them an O-line who knows how they would be.

I am very happy with Harris, Revis and Rhodes in the backfield. With some size upfront I wonder if Vilma could come back and join them as a playmaker?

Bryan Thomas should be on suicide watch..if not he has no heart..

The oline actually looked OK in spats yesterday , but when they 'lost' it they lost all of it in a hurry.

Kevins problems are that he does stay in the pocket at the wrong time and when he does hussle he stops and hangs on to the ball waaaaay to long. Mind you at the end he did do the sensible thing and air one out through the end zone which Chap could never have done.

I agree on all the positives except the o-line. It still stinks worse than any Jet's line I can recall. I see one really good building block there in Mangold and an open question in D'Brick. then I see three mistakes that need to be replaced.

Green Guy, you don't post nearly as often as you should. I've been following your threads for years and agree 99% of the time.

We have problems, but they're fixable. I wouldn't trade our problems for any other sub-500 team's.

The key to Leons touches is that he needs to get them in space. When he is at the second level his chances of breaking it big are very high.

I was please with Clemens yesterday. We played a bad team and destroyed them like we should. Not to say we are much better but the offense took care of business when they had to. I would like to see Wallace Wright thrown to more. He is a true receiver and not a project like Brad Smith or washed up like McCareins. Im glad the team adjusted on the Miami blitzes later in the game as well.

We got a good amount of Bright Spots on this team and like pointed out already Mangini must get Leon the ball more often.

Lets not get too carried away with beating a winless team, it's this same attitude that fooled the CS and FO into thinking we could compete this year with last years team, and you all see how that turned out. This team has so many holes to fix; any progress next year will be becuase of a soft schedule due to this years performance. This team is still 2+ years away from maybe being able to compete with the good, not elite, teams in the league.

I felt the team played up to its potential full potential yesterday, and just like I had said to the small population of morons who were still complaining about Chad 'getting screwed', we saw in the 2nd Dolphins game that KC is where he should be.

And just like everyone else said, I think at least 2 pieces on the OL could help a lot-especially in scoring opportunities when right now at least we are being held to FG's too often.

Who could complain about the defense? We held them to 6 points, which is a good game for any defense, even if the opposing team has no mentionable offense. We made them look bad. No one around the league is going to be talking about John Beck as the answer for the Dolphins they've been looking for since Marino.

First of all, a great win, but please lets not get too excited, as these were the winless and shithole Dolphins we played...

But for those who didnt know, Mangini is building this team through the draft..hes molding his team to the type of players he wants...

so far, 3 probable future Pro Bowl caliber players drafted under Mangini

    Mangold (already a stud of a C)
Revis (best CB in the draft, and could be an all pro next year)
Harris (tackling machine, Patrick Willis move over)

    with a few more TBD:

Clemens (not really sure what to think about this guy)
    Dbrick (hot and cold)

lets not forget Mangini gave Cotchery the chance when clueless Herm wouldnt...Rhodes is excelling as one the leagues best safeties with 3 INTs in 3 weeks...If we retain Vilma, and can return him to his original form ( unlikely) and draft a playmaker or 2 on the Dline, our defense would be downright nasty. But then again this is a big "IF"

I too like what I see, but not getting too amped about the win over the phins...

I wouldn't say that yesterday's game was progress.

To me, the Jets of the Miami game looked a lot like the Jets of last year. Brad Smith behind center at times, heavy doses of Leon, crafty blitz plays. That's how the Jets grinded out wins last year and what they've been sorely lacking this year.

But I'm not seeing the progress. As always with the Jets, it's one step forward and at least one step back. We take a step forward by getting Thomas Jones and then take a big step back on o-line play. We take a step forward by finally putting in Clemens and take a step back when we realize there is no WR depth. We take a step forward when our rookies step up big time. And we take a big step back when all the rookies that looked good out of the gate (Vilma, D-Rob, Thomas) play like crap all year.

I'd call yesterday's game progress... for the Dolphins. Progressively worse.

Great post Green Guy. I was hoping someone would highlight the positives from Sunday moving forward. Most of our losses this season have been close. As I've said before, the only difference between last year and this year is that the x-factor hasn't been going our way. We have the coaching staff and a few key parts to use the next offseason or two to build a championship caliber team.

The one thing that I think makes all the difference is the team's attitude. We really looked like we were having fun out there. The confidence from beating a team like Pittsburg combined with the positivity shown this Sunday is the type of thing that turns the x-factor back in our favor.

To all of you naysayers...you're the most pathetic bunch of excuses for fans I've ever been associated with. All of you dumb fools worrying about whether or not we could be the lowly fins should be ashamed of yourselves. Half of you posers are still on this site the next morning continuing to put our team down. Why don't you do us all big favor and give yourselves a voluntary week-long ban so the REAL Jets fans can talk about our great win and the building blocks we have in place for the future.

    Thanks for the kind words...

When you listed future pro bowlers, you left out Rhodes. That means 3 guys on our defense can be pro bowlers, and one on offense. That means we need another one on offense (or two) and a Dlineman...

As for Vilma, we should trade him for his benefit and ours. Obviously he's not cut out for this team...for whatever reason...
