What a game played by Revis yesterday. Overall he's had a few bumps in the road this year, but you can definitely see the improvement from the beginning of the season.
BS call against the Jets with that pass interference. But, like I said last week, if it was going to be a close game the Refs would do something about it
Yeah...but i think Moss caught the ball anyway. Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the Pat's decline it? Anyway it should have been a offensive PI...but you don't get those calls in Foxboro.
I like Revis, and I'm pretty upset that Justin Miller got hurt. I would have liked to see how the two of them did paired up this year. If we can fill some of our more pressing needs on defense in free agency, I'd love to draft another solid corner to pair with him. -X-
Something nice about Miller's return next year will be this... As opposed to David Barrett and Andre Dyson, Miller has very good 'make up' speed... This means that he can play more aggressively at the line (ala Revis) and not worry as much about giving up a big play.... Having BOTH our CBs able to do that, will improve our 3rd and medium (3-7) defense tremendously.... Hopefully Miller has been studying up while he's been out, because I would LOVE to have him, Revis and Rhodes in our secondary for the next 8+ years
Miller had better be able to play corner well next year, becasue with Leon around we don't need him for returns. I do like his speed, its Millers head I worry about. He seems lost on some plays and takes stupid penaltys. if he can get it togeather, he could be a hell of an addition next year, but I'm not banking on it.
Absolutely, it all depends on whether or not he can pull it together mentally... (then again, Mangini seems to love Abram Elam, who plays like he's Justin Miller's retarded younger cousin) But, if he is able to pull it together mentally, we could be looking at one hell of an athletically gifted secondary
A lot hinges on how Miller returns from this knee injury. I wouldn't expect a guy who doesn't seem to take things all that seriously to rehab this thing too aggressively. I guess what I'm saying is I don't really see him being a guy we can count on. -X-
Wow, I totally forgot about Justin "Cant get my head around" Miller. I love his speed and athleticism... He also can be a nasty tackler. Do you guys think he has a shot at being able to play #2 CB next year? Probably not. Seems like a guy who will just never be able to have the awareness of whats going on around him to be reliable. Seems like he could make a good nickelback though as he'd be closer to the line, he could blitz and make tackles.
Revis played excellent yesterday but please lets call a spade a spade. He had his back to the QB and thus that was a penalty. When Revis learns to read the WR better and turn on the ball, and he will as that is learned from experience, he is going to be dynamite. However, it is generally accepted by most that when your back is to the QB, no matter how good your coverage is, if you bump the Wr it is a penalty. So yes he covered him like a glove but he did not turn, a rookie mistake. If it is the one mistake Revis makes is have his back to the play too much. Once again when he learns to turn on the pass he is going to be a top 3 CB in this league. Not many QB's are going to throw his way. Edit: It was Rhodes that had the PI penalty on Moss. That was bullshit. I am sorry I originally thought you were talking about Revis's PI penalty.
You can't be anything but 100% pleased with Revis. The guy is a total stud. Please remember he's coming off a very short camp and he is a rookie, does not have a lot of help in that secondary, no pass rush, and has been going up against the best in the world in terms of wide receivers. He will be one of the best corners in this league for many years to come. He can cover like a glove, and is a ball hawker with good hands who can grab up interceptions opportunistically like the one he got yesterday. In addition to this the kid MAKES TACKLES. He does not give a lot of cushion and he has excellent technique.
Revis has the look of a future "shutdown CB". Not going to say on the level of a champ bailey or anything like that, but the guy did a admirable job on TO and Randy Moss among many other recievers. We are lucky to have him and Harris. They are the brightest spots on this team as of right now.
He's gotten a raw deal on a few PI calls. Hopefully as he solidifies his rep the refs will start to understand that it's just very good coverage and not a penalty.
In recent weeks QBs have delibrately targeted Revis , and going into this game thought that he was going to get toasted every time he took the field. Props to Revis , his attributes on Madden must have gone up by at least 10.
Yeah, all true. The problem is it probably should have been called against Moss for pushing off. That's the big difference. Moss always pushes off and always gets away with it. Not that it was as flagrant as most of his but he did put an arm out to create separation.
Don, you're absolutely right about Moss pushing off constantly, but the League favors Offense and thus the penalty is less likely to be called unless it's blatantly obvious; and even times when it is, they still don't call it. combine that with Moss' superstar role in the NFL, and that's why he gets away with it. as far as Revis goes, the progression is very pleasing. someone mentioned it, but one thing you have to love is his ability to make open field tackles. so reliable. once he really learns the nuances of the position in the NFL, he'll be a premier player. as far as Miller goes, i wanted this year to be a make-or-break year, but obviously, the injury grants him another year. he has the potential to be a very very solid CB as he's still young. not to mention, if Miller finally gets it right, he, Revis, and Rhodes should generate a lot of turnovers with an improved pass rush. look how good Revis and Rhodes are now without a pressure on the QB. just imagine what they're capable of when the QB is forced to throw the ball in little time.
