The Jets will receive a fifth-round pick in 2008 if Kendall plays 80 percent of the snaps this year for Washington; if he plays more than that, the pick would be upgraded to a fourth-rounder in 2009. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2988171 Based on Kendall starting all of the Skins, the Jets should receive the 4th in 2009.He played 80% of the snaps http://www.nfl.com/players/petekendall/gamelogs?id=KEN043723
The Kendall trade would have made sense if the Jets had a real plan B. It was the lack of any kind of appropriate options there that made it into a biting the nose to spite the face kind of deal.
It's a good trade. Kendall is not THAT good, was a clubhouse cancer and would have set a precedent to other players.
The Kendall trade looks pretty bad as Clarke has been absolutely dreadful. However, the problems with this team go well beyond the LG position and I think this team would have been awful regardless of the trade.
First of all, D'Brick hasn't been very good. Second, you gotta give some props to Harris, Revis, Rhodes, and Leon. Everyone is up for debate.
Looking back on the trade, it looks terrible, but at the time it seemed necessary. It was tough to let him go, but in the end I think it was the right decision.
He has set a precedent. When the Jets try to get another player to lower their salary they will just look at what happen to Kendall and say no thanks pay me or cut me. I watched Kendall the other night and he was just playing great for the Redskins, much better than any guard I have seen on the Jets this year. I said it last summer and I will say it again IT WAS STUPID NOT TO PAY KENDALL THE MONEY. BIG F###ING DEAL A 4th round pick in 2009.
Haha, yeah. What are people getting excited about? By 2009 we may be the laughing stock of the league if we aren't already.
IMO, if we kept Kendall we would have had 6 wins right now. So we have 3; what's the big deal? We still would have had the same issues to address with Kendall here, they just would not have been as glaring as they are now. I like the fact that there is no longer any ambiguity about what to do.
I agree with you on the number of wins we would have produced with a real LG for Clarke. 6 wins vs 3 wins is a huge deal. 6 wins is an offseason that everybody in the clubhouse can deal with. What's Kerry Rhodes thinking about now if the Jets come to him with a 5 year deal for decent but not huge money? I'll be you he's not going to have the "ok, sign me up" attitude that Jerrico Cotchery had after last season. Becoming a pits team really handicaps what you can do in terms of holding and recruiting talent at all levels, players, coaches and even management.
When the Jets negotiated his contract 2(or 3?) years ago, they told him they weren't re-doing it, and he seemed fine with that. Then this year, he comes into camp making all kinds of noises about it? We had to do it.
I'm getting sick of hearing how Kendall is the savior and we let this all pro offensive lineman go. He was a "good" LG for us, but some of you guys are blaming this season on if we had him or not. Our RT is pathetic, our LT still hasn't developed like we thought he would, Moore is "OKay"..
The 4th round has been pretty good to this team. Once we actually make the pick it'll seem a lot better than it does now. Kendall is a very good G but he only has a few years left in him. I think even having him here this year the Jets wouldn't have been that much better.
