KC didn't lose their starting QB. You talking about Trent Green? He wasn't their starter. The Jets have had as much injury problems at the QB position as the Chiefs. Larry Johnson being injured was foreseeable, and I wonder why that was? *cough* Herm *cough*
^ classic Herm apologist right there. Herm never should get any of the blame when the team fails. It's always someone else's fault. Herm could use a spokesman like junc.
Lol Herm finally achieved his goal of breaking the record for most rushing attempts in history with one back. Good Job Herm.
They had an aging overrated team when Herm took over and in the last 2 years they lost 2 HOF caliber OL and a PB QB and FB. The team lacks talent, that falls on peterson who has built so many great teams that haven't won a playoff game since Joe Montana was QB. I don't heap all praise on Herm, I'm honest about him. he's a GOOD, not great, HC. he needs talent as all coaches do. Right now he doesn't have it but he's a proven winner when he does and even w/ their lack of talent tey were in the race at midseason until a few key guys went down unlike the Jets who were completely healthy and out of it by october. blah, blah, blah. I have blamed Herm plenty when it's his fault and he does SHARE in the blame for the mess in KC but it falls more on the incompetent GM than it does Herm. Was it Herm's fault KC had made just 1 PO appearance in 7 years before he got there? was it his fault they hadn't wo a playoff game since Joe Montana was QB? Is it Herm's fault the francise has 2 PO wins since they on SB IV? That says alot about you since Herm wasn't the Gm so which players was Herm overpaying? Hackett was only following orders? check his history then get back to me. Sucked the talent dry? I guess that's why won 10 games last year when half the rosetr was mad eup of Herm/TB holdovers while this year we have 3 wins when 1/4 of our rosters is herm/TB holdovers. Who did herm give ridiculous contracts to? lousy talent utilization? he took over a franchise that had 1 playoff appearance in 9 years and guided us to 3 in his first years. Sounds like he utilized talent well to me. How did he throw Cottrellunder the bus? cottrell sucked, we all wanted hackett gone and we finally got ou wish and did he say a bad word about Brien? How did he "suck the talent dry" when a) he wasn't the GM and b) we got BETTER when he took over? we backed into 3 playoff appearances? by winning at oak for the first time since we were the Titans? by crushing NE on the road and 12-3 GB in the final weeks of '02? That's backing in?
if you actually think Herm is competent, you should be even more pissed at Herm for doing what he did.
Herm Edwards vs Manweenie One thing I will say for Herm.. AND Parcells.. That none of you can deny. At least Their press conferences were interesting. Mangini might be more boring than Belichek when it comes to talking to the media. The problem is that SNY actually puts these debates on the air! (YAWN!) If I hear ONE MORE TIME that Mangini ate apple pie and ice cream after a victory? I'm switching. I'll quit the Jets. I swear. It's THAT BAD!
Good god, who gives a flying turd about the press conferences? I mean, I will be the first to torch the product on the field, but PRESS CONFERENCES? Do you really need a press conference to be entertained? Herm's pressers were an embarrassment.
Press conferences Sorry to break the news to you, but running a press conference is a part of an NFL coaches job. And you can judge them by how they appear in the press conference. Coaches such asTom (acting like a maniac on the sidelines in 2006) Coughlin to Dennis "WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!" Green have been fired for bad press conferences. Also, as a Jets fan, I don't expect them to win a Super Bowl, but i would enjoy it if they were at least a bit entertaining when they lose games (see the Richard Todd jets, when they were beating up reporters during press conferences--now THAT'S entertainment!) Part of my point about Mangini (if you read it carefully, but I will expand on it) is that Mangini is a coach who never played the game. Therefore he's borisng during press conferences. And I am sure he is boring during practices, training camp, preseason, and the regular season. And the player go through practice, through one grueling session after another, all the while thinking, "Here's a guy who never had to go through this. Mangini has always been a coach, never a player..." Herm was a player. He knew what the players felt. He knew how to motivate them. He knew how to push their buttons. DUDE! Edwards got the Jets to three playoff seasons in a row! Mangini has us back to 3-13! Yes, I miss those Herm Edwards/Bill Parcells press conferences, when the Jets were winning football games...
Respect Okay, Mangini played some college ball... But please, don't compare his football experience to some kind of real deal. Wesleyan is not exactly a football powerhouse. And Bill Belichek has a lot more credentials than Mangini. I am a Jets fan, but not a Tangini fan. I am hoping that we hire some real football people and get rid of these amateurs.
How many successful HCs in this league (i.e. Super Bowl winners) ever played a down of professional football? Please, read them off to me. You can probably count them on zero fingers.
Do you think the same thing with Belichick? In a way what Herm did was almost worse, since he was supposed to be the anti-Belichick, Mr. Loyalty and Personality, and it's not just that he orchestrated his exit, it's that he was planning on doing it for years. Hell they were rumors about him leaving for Atlanta his second year of coaching. The only thing worse than a skank is a skank that's a phony on top of it. That said I can't work up much rancor at this point since his team and fanbase has found out just how overrated a coach he is.
No reaction to Herm but I'm looking at Jets NFL page and there's only 2 days and 17 hours to go to this big game. How can I last?
I'll answer this. Tony Dungy Bill Cowher Mike Ditka Tom Flores Chuck Noll Tom Landry Don Shula Don McCafferty These head coaches combined to win 14 Super Bowls. The other 27 Super Bowls were won by head coaches who never played in the NFL (or AFL).
Belichek Actually, unlike most NY Jets fans? I had NO PROBLEM with the way Belichick left the team. If I was in his situation? I would have done the same thing. Parcells screwed this up. He obviously did not prepare for his own departure--otherwise, Belichick would have accepted the job. This is a classic case of bad communication betwee a coach and his ACs... (Which reminds me of how Mangini treated their punter, Ben Graham, in the last game--BAD COMMUNICATION!, people!) Belichick did what was best for Belichick. I admire the man for that. And his decision certainly and obviously paid off for him. Herm Edwards did the same. Herm deserved a long-term contract based on his accomplishments (three playoffs in four years). Jets management decided to go in a different direction... We will see if it was a good decison or not. Rightg now? It looks like a "not." Mangini? He's starting to look as bad as Isiah Thomas... Rich Kotite... Joe Torre with the Mets...
