This win was very costly because now in a draft with five stud players we will miss out and also if we had a smart organization we would have been able to trade the McFadden spot for two top draft picks and a good young player. The Cowboys would be willing to trade a number 1 this year, a number three this year and a 1 and 3 next year. That is how a team builds. We need a lot of players and we blew it by gaining a meaningless win. I know you don't play to lose but we had a opportunity to play all our young players and rest Jones and Cochery. Clemens is also far from the answer.
We heard the same thing 2 years ago after we "missed" out on Reggie Bush and that seemed to work out allright. The draft is a crapshoot 3 spots isn't going to determine us winning the SB. If the Jets want somebody they'll trade up to get him.
Prepare to be crucified on this, many will cherish this garbage overtime win over Herm rather then better draft position. At the very least this stops the Darren Mcfadden threads, he will be long gone by the time this team drafts. Now we will have to be hoping someone drops.
Players play to win. Coaches coach to win. They don't care about April's draft. Anyways you don't know if the player they would have picked at 3 would be a stud or he could be a giant bust and the player they pick at 6 or 7 will be a stud. Parcells traded down from #1 in 1997 (?) and you can throw that whole draft in the waste basket.
What makes people think that a team is going to out and TRY to lose? For a draft pick, that could potentially replace any one of those guys on the field. Give me a break with this shit. I'm glad we won.
Draft position at the top of the 1st round is overrated. Especially the #1 overall pick. Unless there's a sure thing like Peyton, it's more trouble than it's worth. As long as the Jets scout well and maybe get a little lucky, the outcome of today's game is going to be pretty meaningless.
It might be overrated but it also helps to have more options and with a higher pick and the chance of Mcfadden dropping things looked good for a trade down. This season was basically over midway so one meaningless win at the end didn't do crap for me except screw up draft position. Now a win against the Pats this season......
There are two ways of looking at it... 1. The higher the draft pick, the better player we can get most likely. 2. The lower the draft pick, the less chips we have to put in to lock up our draft pick. I prefer to look at it as #2 for one reason. College players are unproven. Sure, one guy may be better in the eyes of scouts than another, but until they learn an NFL play book and step on the field, there's no sure thing in the NFL. By drafting lower, we are locking up less money for a top tier talent and unproven player. While I think of McFadden as a can't miss prospect, the truth is that there is no sure thing. I would love to get him, but it ain't going to happen. Instead we'll get another good prospect who will cost us now considerably less money. I don't want us ending up in cap hell because we have to invest so much in draft picks. (And no, there are no guarantees when it comes to finding a trade partner to move out of the top 2 or 3, so I figured I'd point that out before someone says we can just trade the pick.)
Mangold picked over D'Brick , whos better? Revis picked over Harris , whos better? Doesn't always work that way
It's a very common and ignorant thing, for a fanbase to assume that their team just can and should trade down. You can't just do it, there's gotta be somebody to trade with, and that only happens when there's another team who's dead set on somebody. You can't plan around trading down.
There is really no point in trying to lose. We got a win over Herm and finished the season with a victory. Hopefully we can get Gholston now
I fully understand that it takes two to tango but having a higher pick gave us a better chance of trading down then drafting later. The higher the pick the more players to choose from. I think this team should trade down no matter what and now it is less likely.
As a great man once said "You Play To Win The Game" I wanted McFadden more than anybody and now we probably wont get him but hey if u are actually on the team as a coach or player u dont wanna lose no matter what, so there wa no need to rest Cotch or Jones cause they will have the entire offseason to do that.
