I really think this is intentional posturing by the Jets to increase Pennington's trade value. While I would not be upset if Pennington was here next year (even as our starter, behind a overhauled offensive line with talent), I doubt he will be here.
You are telling me that defenses are afraid of a "rookie" that really showed no threat? Combine that without a receiver that can stretch the field and then give the running game credit to Kellen. No Way.
Certainly they could not keep 8-9 in the box like they do with Chad. While they largely kept the playbook the same, KC can at least make all the throws required of an NFL QB. The defense may not be scared of it but they do have to be accountable.
Does anybody realize we are rebuilding and it is going to take a few years to get receivers that can stretch the field to match KC's talents, New offensive linemen and a new play book that is not designed for Dink and Dunk. This is not baseball! We can not buy a championship in one year if woody opens the playbook!
Why would Woody open the playbook? Is he going to stop owning and start being the OC as well? Funny thing is this is a better off season to open the checkbook. Lets see how they repair the O-line among other positions.
They are going to spend this offseason. The question is are they going to do it wisely or willy nilly. The one weakness so far with Tannenbaum would be his FA signings. However, you have to take into account his first 2 FA periods had a dearth of good young talent. This one the options look to be a hell of a lot better.
Am I the only one who noticed that Chad actually threw the long ball better and more accurately than Clemens did? And Chad was putting balls on the money outside the numbers in fierce wind and weather in New England and a stiff wind in Tennessee? Aside from all the message board myth, his arm looks fine to me. By next season he'll be three years removed from the last surgery.
Word is that Herm is considering bringing in Hackett to be his new OC. If that happens, the chances of Pennington staying with the Jets grow slimmer in my mind.
Thats true, but he also didn't have to stand up to the riggers of a 16 game season. No telling if he could have made those throws towards the end of the season if he started all 16 games.
In a word yes. I was going to type a long detailed response but really it is not worth it. I suppose a person can look at the Ocean when in the Bahama's and argue that the blue water there is in fact yellow.
Thats exaggerating the point a little bit, isnt it? Nobody said KC scared a D, just that KC takes about 4 or 5 shots downfield a game to keep the D honest. And by doing that, the D plays a little looser and that opens up the running game. If I were a DC playing vs Chad earlier this season, I would have had to be an idiot not to put 8 guys in the box & dared him to beat me w/the long throw.
Maybe you should watch the Cincinnati, New England and Tennessee games again then. Then watch Pittsburgh and see Coles get his ankle hurt and season ruined on an underthrow by Clemens.
He did last year and completed long passes for TDs in Week 16 at Miami and in the playoffs at New England.
I don't remember the one in the playoff game. Bad memory. I do recall a pass to Cotch but that was a YAC TD.
My god you Chad lovers.... If they keep Chad you keep him as a back up, KC is the guy. We will be dealing with 10 yard bombs next year from Chad again. It's interesting to that Coles got hurt the sametime they benched Chad...
You are right, it was both--about a 35 yard pass and a 60 yard run or so. The Miami one was to Cotchery in a driving rain, Chad playing with the flu. Those examples are right off the top of my head, I'm sure there were others as well. I was at the Raider game in Week 17 that we won big, for some reason I remember the plays better when I see them on TV.
I don't think either KC or Chad are the answer and if we can get a high pick for either of them we should do it a try to draft a QB at 6.
Again this argument is not worth it. I have watched enough football and talked with enough people to know..................... Chad Pennington does not have an NFL arm. I am sorry but that is the case. To argue otherwise is pure folly. You can point out to a single throw in a particular game and say, "See he can throw". Sorry one pass a game is not an example. The other team puts 8-9 players in the box and dares him to throw on them. He can not do it consistently. He can not beat a top tier NFL caliber defense consistently. He has not been able to in the last 5 years and during that time he actually had a decent O-line, a HOF RB and a better WR corp at one time. I have watched every game this year. Most of the time with 50-100 people. Not one has ever said," You know Chad really can make the throws required of an NFL QB". He can not, every NFL analyst can see that. I have no earthly idea why Jet fans can't either............. Shit I am not even saying he sucks or should die or something ridiculous like that. This is a silly argument. I can see how some might think Chad would thrive in a different environment, say Minnesota. I just can not see how you can say he has an NFL caliber arm. That just baffles me. I not even getting into the argument of the floaters Chad throws getting WR's injured vs. a KC underthrow.................
