I would take Johnson in a heartbeat, and I honestly cannot think of a guy on the roster that I wouldn't trade for him, throwing in a pick no less. This is one of the best WR's in the league coming off a "down" year on a team that underperformed. He's one of maybe 3 guys in the league I'd sacrifice Vilma for, and I'd probably be giddy as a wee girl if it happened. He's big, he's fast, he's dynamic, and the dude can flat out play. He's likely in the headcase range of Moss and Owens (if not now, give it 3 years), but what I wouldn't give to have a threat like him on the Jets.
If we could get Johnson for Vilma I'd be all over that. However, I can't see how he'd be any more happy playing on a 4-12 team than he is on a 7-9 team unless this team attacks the rest of the offseason with an attitude of having something to proove.
I love chad johnson. We have much bigger needs then wr(online). He would never come here he doesnt want to move from 1 mess to another
Yeah honestly, Johnson is a great talent but with a young inexperience QB this is nothing but trouble. I can't see us doing this. I would rather Roy Williams.
no brainer vilma for jhonson there is the offensive game breaker we dont have no one is close on this team if they have the chance the better do this
There are so many wrongs in this article it's impossible to ignore... 1.Chad Johnson isn't going anywhere. I highly doubt the Bengals will side with Johnson over Carson Palmer(the last guy on that team you want to anger) and a guy who is arguably the best in the league, particularly when your alternative is a combustible Chris Henry. 2.I don't agree that neither Coles nor Cotchery can get open downfield. On the rare occasion that the Jets actually threw a deep ball, they were pretty successful. I think the receivers are limited by the unimaginative play calling, rather than the reason for it. 3.Leon Washington can't handle a large workload, but I don't see why he can't handle 10 touches a game. This season, Leon had a total of 107 touches. The year before 176. This is a poor trend that absolutely contributed to our inefficiency. You're going from 11 touches a game to 6.6, and it's not as if he was replaced by a more efficient player. 4.As for Clemens transition, well, it's the reason for the unimaginative play calling. Between a poor offensive line and his inaccuracy, he can't be relied upon to thread the needle fifteen yards down field. Simply put, you don't accommodate inaccurate passers. 5.The Bengals have Chad Johnson, and how are they doing? The Raiders got Randy Moss before the Pats, and it hardly took them to the promised land. The Cowboys, most notoriously, gave up a boatload of picks for Joey Galloway, who promptly tore his ACL. One of those first rounders became Shaun Alexander? Who was more integral to the success of their respective franchise? The fact of the matter is, the Pats are successful because they have a quality guy at every spot, an offensive line with chemistry, grit, and technique, and a top tier front seven. Obtaining a Chad Johnson isn't going to do any of these things for the Jets. -X-
