The Jets are reportedly poised to make free agent G Alan Faneca a deal averaging $8 million per season. Interestingly, the NY Daily News notes that the Jets are expected to "outbid the Rams and 49ers," neither of which we've heard linked to Faneca. Niners GM Scot McCloughan is outspokenly opposed to giving guards monster contracts. The Rams are needy there, but in poor salary cap condition. Source: New York Daily News
I love Faneca, but I'm not to sure about Woody at RT. He doesn't have a lot of experience playing that position.
Word is he moved to RT for Detroit midway through the year and outperformmed george Foster by a long shot. He's def. a seasoned veteran and also has a ton of versatility..which helps.
He can't possibly be worse than Clement. Plus if we draft a 2nd round RT than we may just have really good depth on the oline in that case.
Hutchinson and Steinbach both got 7 mil a year, so this seems about right for Faneca. As for Woody, I'd rather spend the money elsewhere and draft the future RT in the 2nd round...someone like Cherilus.
We could always get both...Draft Cherilus and let him learn for awhile then plug him in when he is ready.
yea absolutley we'll still probably draft a tackle in the 2-3 round...hopefully Carl Nicks, our Oline could be VERY good this year and it will do wonders for our offense, no matter who the signal caller is (hopefully kellen)
If we can nab Woody for the present and draft Nicks or someone for the future, on top of Faneca and Jenkins, maybe Pace and others to follow, this will have already been 1000% better than last offseason.
