Looking back would you not have traded Vilma?

    not trade Vilma if you knew we were going to be making these aquisitions?

    I would think yes because he would be a better fit for the system not individually but rather he is suited almost 100 percent with personal that support the 3-4

    This is just a what if nothing to do with salary cap managment or offers already in place just if you wanted to keep him or not

    I still would have made the deal. He had one year left on his contract and most likely would've wanted out after that anyways. Better to at least get something for him than to keep him another year and let him walk.

    They knew that they were trading Vilma in January and trading for Jenkins about a month ago. This staff doesnt make the decisions the minute we hear about them... they were trading Vilma regardless this year.

    I'm never keeping a player because i like him even though he doesn't fit the system, has a knee injury that may alter his career into shit, and is completely undersized (can't fit the system again)-- Welcome to the business of football gentlemen.

    Looking back on Alan Faneca too;

    From Draftsharks.com
    Alan Faneca did sign with NYJ
    Despite denials from Alan Faneca's agent, the 7-time Pro Bowl guard did sign with the New York Jets. It's a 5-year deal worth $40 million including $21m guaranteed. That's a ton of dough up front, but if he gives them 3 healthy seasons it's worth it.

    -- I'm glad we got him but I'm reading that other guards like Jacob Bell (Tenn.) were better value and younger. Whaddya think? Big cap moola burning a hole in our pocket? :eek:hmy:

    Did you see the article where he admitted that he did not want to perform the responsibilities of a 3-4 LB. I forget where I saw it, but rest assured that he was not going to resign with a club that plays a 3-4 D. I too would've liked to see what he could do with fatass Jenkins in front of him, but it was better to get some value for him than to take a chance on a 1-year gamble with an unhappy player.

    I think they should of gave Vilma a chance wit a solid pass rusher and a big DT in the middle who can hold two lineman at once

    Jacob Bell doesn't have the experience of Alan Faneca. His experience and veteran leadership is going to help out D'brickashaw Ferguson. Our line is going to be so much stronger next year because our FO brought in two solid vets: Alan Faneca and Damien Woody.

    No we did the right thing. Vilma has been the worst defensive player on our defense the last two seasons. He's coming off a major knee injury and only has one year left on his contract. I love Vilma as much as anyone else here, I loved his heart, and just fell in love with his personality, but I can't ignore the fact that I watched him week after week the last two seasons being pushed around by guys 30 +pounds and making him look down right horrible on the field. Tangini did the right thing here, David Harris will soon make us forget about Vilma.

    how do call 100+ tackles for the past three seasons(not including last year)a bust.... Imagine him wit a solid big body in front of him taking on two lineman like your suppose to in the 3-4 DT position... then you can make plays.. last season david harris had 121 tackles same ball park as vilma(when he wasnt injured).. so that means the DT position was lacking should of gave him one more year now that some pieces are in place...

    it should be noted that david harris didn't start until mid-season. he's a beast. MUCH stronger tackler than vilma. he provided a real presense on our D and really laid the wood on opposing ball carriers... unlike vilma. honestly, barring an injury to harris you won't even notice that vilma's gone.

    I would've kept him one more year to see him out, but what really is going to piss me off is when he's the best playmaking linebacker in the NFC and we have a 4th round pick as payment
