From East Coast Sports News: http://www.eastcoastsportsnews.com/AlsHotNwsRms.html Why didn't we check out Matt Ryans pro day then?
Fascinating. I guess that our 2nd round pick may be used in other areas?? Welcome to another great debate TGG--- Brohm vs. Our QBs! If he can be the Junior year QB he was ok fine... But this is an odd move. Are we posturing to throw off other teams? Do Kellen and Chad need this guy to move their asses? Is Flacco now a mid-1st rounder to where we can't get him?? Oh shit does this raise alot of questions... GO CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because Brohm is a better passer with a much more realistic draft value assigned to him. Ryan is being made to look(by some scouts) like Carson Palmer. The fact of the matter is he's a QB with an average arm, average accuracy, and a questionable INT total. I was not sold on him this year. I think it has something to do with him being a quarterback from the Boston area with an Irish name. -X-
Of course Jets officials don't come out publicly and admit it but all of the columnists and broadcasters have said all along that Clemens didn't impress anybody last year. They wouldn't be saying it if that wasn't what they were hearing off the record from Jets. I mean I know those guys aren't always right but when they are all saying the same thing you have to believe there is some truth in it.
I'd be elated if the Jets take Brohm. He throws an accurate deep ball and isn't coming from a spread offense like Clemens was. I hope the Jets interest in him is legitimate- I'd openly embrace him as the franchise QB of this team. Clemens and Chad are not the future. I think Clemens is terrible and Chad's time is almost over. Say what you will but if the Jets really don't think Clemens is the goods then it isn't crazy to spend another 1st day pick on a QB.
I wouldn't be against Brohm, if they loved him and he was there. Its a ballsy move if they do it. I would like it better if they traded Chad for a #3 right after they pick him. Then give Clemens the reigns and go from there.
I really don't see a need to take a quarterback. I really don't see what a rookie can do over Clemens, and besides it is just going to created controversy. I don't mind taking one on day two for depth though.
I loved Brohm at the beginning of the year, if we could get this guy in the second, I'd be hard pressed not to be all for it.
I do see a need when we don't have a franchise QB on our roster. Clemens, to me, will join the long list of QBs from run and shoot or spread offenses that don't transition to the NFL. Brohm played in a pro-style offense in college and was constantly under center. He's got ideal height unlike Clemens who got a load of passes knocked down. Unlike Clemens, he throws a very accurate deep ball. He can make all the throws and is a warrior on the field. He is as smart a QB as there will be in the draft and he can pick defenses apart with time. The only negative with him is his injury history but that can always improve. Clemens only slam dunk over Brohm is his average scrambling ability. I like Brohm better than Flacco, but I would not be opposed to using the 2nd rounder on either. With the FA acquisitions of this team, I think the Jets can afford to make this pick. If you think there is a franchise QB on the board, you absolutely can't pass on the guy if you lack one. Do you think the Bills regret spending their 1st rounder in 83 on Jim Kelly after taking a QB in round 2 in 82? Do you think the Steelers regret using their #1 pick in 1970 on Bradshaw when they too had drafted a QB in Round 2 in 1969? Bottom line- you don't pass on a QB you think can be the face of your franchise regardless of what picks you made in the past. I'll go so far to state Brohm will have a better pro career than Kellen Clemens. I'm partial to the Vikings in the NFC so I'd be elated if they picked him. I think Mangini would love coaching this guy but I don't make the moves. Perfect mechanics, great intangibles, good arm strength, great accuracy... what more do you want? I don't think the Jets will draft him, but I'm allowed to dream right? Worst case, I hope he ends up lighting up the scoreboard in Minnesota for years to come.
Zero chance of Kellen getting cut in any scenario. Chad would get cut WAY before they would consider cutting Clemens.
His Louisville team was atrocious this last season. Yet he still threw 30 TDs and completed 65% of his passes. Brohm is Chad + arm strength which is IMHO the ideal QB for the Schottenheimer offense.
Why would that be? Clemens isn't as accurate (actually, not close), he took more saks in two less games despite his so-called ability to run? Actually, he had the lowest QB rating and lowest completion percentage of any QB in the league. So why would they keep him over Pennington who happens to be the most accurate passer in the history of the NFL. Money? Maybe but I don't think so. The minute they made that pick Clemens would be through unless you really believe Clemens will be the starter this year. The only thing they could do which would allow controversy to develop would be to keep him.
I was just being a sensationalist... i feel this kid is underlooked by the "draft media" on ESPN and NFL Network. he is more than capable to lead a team. The coverage we'd get having a 3-way QB competition during the summer will be huge, but Brohm comes from a big time college so he'd thrive.

Well, College is hardly the same level as the NFL. How Mr. Brohm's skills translate we'll have to see. Just like the jury is still way out on Kellen.
