if we DO draft a qb in the first day, then he becomes our 'kelly clemens', who was drafted to replace chad. new college qb's NEVER start and MUST watch and learn at LEAST a year, usually two seasons. the only way a rookie qb starts is if the season is lost (see 2007 jets), or if your team simply has no other qb options.

who would you prefer a new qb to watch and learn from for 1 or 2 seasons? chad or clemens?

If the Jets like Brohm i would have no problem taking him we could give Brohm plenty of time to sit behind Chda or Kellen and take over when he is ready. I still think Brohm is gonna be a great qb Ryan is gonna be good to but he doenst have as much upside as Brohm, who has all the tools. Flacco is gonna be a bust i reapeat a bust.

Feign interest and force someone who really wants him like Chicago to a trade for their
    2nd and 4th.

Brohm may have been the #1 QB taken last year if he came out. Even over Russell. Yeah they had a bad year but it didn't diminish his skills. I can see the Jets having legitimate interest if he is there when we take our second pick.

Or it's a total smoke screen by the FO and they really want Ryan but are not leading anyone on.

Could be, they have put enough smoke out there to choke a city if it is.

i live in FL so i see alot of ACC broadcasts. the guy has a great arm. trust me. and his intangibles are the real reason people glow. if you watch him for a full game and ive seen numerous games, the guy truly is a "Field General". As cliche as it is, its true. He definitely has a swagger about him you cant pin. People who talk about his INT count dont take into account the guy went 25-7 as a starter and had BC (who nobody expected much from) in form to compete for the title. Or nobody mentions he set ACC passing records in ATT's COMP's and YARDS (over 4500, broke previous mark set by philip rivers). Set a BC school record for TDs in a Season with 31 (beating Fluties Heisman yr of 28) and nobody mentions how dan marino threw more interceptions his senior year than this kid.

not that matt ryan will be dan marino but the argument can go in many directions.

im not on the mayock horse of calling this kid the shit. but i think people are making way too big of a deal of knocking him. the biggest thing about ryan is he loves to spread the ball around. usually finds the open man.

anyways the kid is good worth a 1st rd pick. if i was ATL id go with him or a DT. thats for sure.

other than that i think most top 10 teams are in qb limbo or committed to someone so thats another reason its easy to knock a guy where teams in the top of the draft have other holes to fill.

I liked him last year the most out of all the QBs here, and his stock is rising... if we get a 3rd back on draft day and he is there, he would be the BPA- i'd gladly pick him up.

Oh yuk, this might just be the worst comment ever on this site. And I'm a MICHIGAN FAN. HENNE over Brohm. HENNE is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. That's so awful wanting that guy over any QB in this draft almost, let alone a good one. Sometimes I really wonder if there should be a course or something to become a teams fan cause that is ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind Brohm in the second if and only if we're really not sold on Clemens. I personally like Brohm's upside the best of anyone in this draft. He had a relatively down year this year because he was on a terrible team. Brohm also fits in perfectly with our offense; as said earlier in this thread, he's essentially Chad but with some better arm strength.

you're clueless if you think Clemens gets cut beofre Chad! Both played behind the NFL's worst line last year- bar none! Chad's most accurate in history BS is because he does not throw a pass over 10 yards! He is done and needs to be cut now- the only reason he is still here is in case of injury and until a successor is groomed. Maybe it's Clemens- maybe he does suck- but you can't say he sucks behind that line last year. This year he gets rated and we SHOULD draft another just in case...

Henne is a moron, guy makes some of the dumbest throws I've ever seen. He's got good tools but I think he's a terrible fit for the BS offense.

Brohm fits perfectly- he's a character guy who "cares about football" and fits everything Mangini wants in a player.

    Seriously?

So...being a second year QB behind the worst OL in the NFL in '07 with his best WR injured isn't reason enough to keep him around?

Chad is 32, has had two shoulder surgeries, and looked absolutely terrible last year. The team moved the ball more with Kellen, scored more with Kellen, and basically sucked less with Kellen.

I personally think Brohm is better than Ryan. That's just me though. I'd be happy to take Brohm in the 2nd. However, I think it's way too early to give up on clemens.

1.Ryan broke the record for attempts, so I'm hoping he broke the record for yards. I don't think that makes him any better than Phillip Rivers, an incredible college quarterback with 4 Bowl game MVP's to his credit. Rivers was a first rounder on intangibles alone, and is comparable to Ryan in the sense that both are looked at for their game management skills more than for their physical prowess. Ryan had some TERRIBLE games this year where you were really left to wonder about his intangibles. I've seen this kid throw some awful interceptions. Rivers never threw more than 10 picks in a season, even as a freshman, and his Senior year numbers 34 TD's-7 Int's speak for themselves. His numbers were absurd.

2.Marino might have thrown more INT's, but Marino went at the end of the first round and had one of the stronger arms and quicker releases there ever was. I've seen Ryan enough to know that he has an average arm. When I couple that with his underwhelming stats, there's no way he's a top five pick.

I don't hate Ryan, but I think he grades out as a bottom of the first round type. I think whatever team takes him is committing a lot of money to a guy who might not be a big money player. I think he could be a good NFL passer, but I think he's going to make a lot of mistakes if he has to start early. I think Brohm is definitely the better prospect.

I agree with xjets. Ryan's good, but he's not great. I actually think Brohm is just as good, if not better. In my mind, he's the best QB in the draft. If we get McFadden in round 1 and Brohm in round 2, it would be very interesting. I don't know if that's the direction we should take right now, but it would be a swing for the fences.
