Agreed on all accounts. Ryan's vastly overrated as everyone's just looking for the next Brady in the draft and he's of that same type of mold. Brohm's got better tools and a better head on his shoulders. My only concern with him is his injury history. I also agree it's too early to give up on Clemens. If we trade down in the first, however, and recoup another 2nd rounder, I'd be all for taking Brohm early in the 2nd if he's there. If the FO has any doubts about Clemens being our QB of the future, I see no reason why not to take a flyer on Brohm. He'd likely be BPA there anyway.
No way will Brohm be available at our spot in the 2nd round. I've watched alot of his games and he is the real deal. He made a terrible decision not to come out last year (his brother is the QB coach at UL and his whole family lives there too so I think that was the reason he stayed). Some team will end up getting him somewhere in the 15-25 range.
I seriously doubt that he'll be available in round 2, but I've always thought that Brohm was the best QB in the draft. The dude reminds me SO MUCH of a young Peyton Manning...he's so intelligent AND has the physical tools...a virtual coach on the field!
I saw this mockdraft on NFL Draft countdown. They have Brohm falling way into the middle of the second round to the Chicago Bears. I can't see him falling that far. Some team will trade up to take him before...
Brian Brohm and Matt Ryan reportedly both scored 32s on the Wonderlic Test. Teams generally look for quarterbacks to score above 20 on the exam, so these are stellar marks for the cerebral signal callers. Joe Flacco reportedly scored a 27, while Chad Henne got 22 of the 50 questions right. Source: Chicago Tribune
Well as an anecdote to the above 20 rule on the wonderlick for QB's Vince Young I believe scored a 4 on his first attempt and a 7 or a 9 on his second try...
The only way the Bears get him is if they use their 1st rounder on him. To think that he would fall to middle of 2nd round is ridiculous.
Every team interviews with most of the top players in the draft so this doesnt concern me much. This is Clemens year, if he falls on his face we draft one next year. This year we adress other areas.
He's fallen into the early-mid 2nd in almost every mock I've seen. For some reason he's fallen. I don't understand it, but if he falls to us I don't care.
If he gets by Chicago, Carolina, and Tampa in the first round, I think we'll have a shot at him. I still think its highly unlikely the Jets take him, but a 4 hour interview and workout is not to be discounted especially since the Jets didn't send scouts to BC's Pro Day to see Matt Ryan. My opinion, if the Jets think Brohm is better than Clemens, they have to make the pick. You don't pass on a QB you really like just because you previously spent a high pick on a QB. Those are sunk costs.
I am with you, if he falls to us in early 2nd then we'll have an interesting decision to make. I rarely pay any attention to what the mocks say, especially if they come from the talking heads on tv. I just know that there was a reason why Brohm was going to be a top 5 picks last year if he came out and this talk of Flacco and Henne being on the same level is a joke.
Folks, It's beyond belief that after 8 games behind what was damn near the worst offensive line in the NFL, a QB is considered a failure. This CS, who have studied every player they have ever drafted with an electron microscope, has deemed Kellen a throw away. Does anyone remember when a drafted QB never even stepped foot on the field for the first 4 years. Now suddenly a QB has to be able to start right out of college and is expected to win at least nine games or be considered a lost prospect. Two years ago Kellen was being called the sleeper QB of the draft , now suddenly he is the being called the first QB bust of that draft. Very confusing to this fan and one would have to look closely at this CS is they fail this badly on there first choice at QB. I have taken into account some of the hits this kid took in those eight games last year. He was under siege all of last season and possibly shell shocked by all the hits he was taking. Do you folks remember the hit by the Pats where Seymour came free and nearly killed the kid and knock him out of the game and got a TD on the pick? So I say to you folks who are ready to draft another young QB with either the first or second pick, what kind of message is that going to send to Kellen. What is that going to say to the guys in the locker room who had enough of losing last year. It says to me that when you bring in another new QB you are starting from scratch again. How long do any of you think it will take a new QB and a rookie at that, to begin to grasp Schott playbook . This fans will be very confused and disappointed if the Jets decide to select another QB with either the first or the second pick in this years draft.
And the weird thing is the overhyped guy in Tenn. with 10 TDs and 17 INTs is a Super Mega-Winner to be despite shit production. I mean when it gets down to it, we were a better team with Clemens on the field. We were 4-4 and we should have been 5-3 or better (the Ravens game). If Vince Young gets to be a good QB because of team success, why can't Clemens be a somebody with a 4-4 record on a 4-12 team with a trash O-line?
Your correct. I think the sentiment comes from the complete distrust of the situation and the thought of, "well we upgraded alot of positions, why not this one too?" But the QB position is such a different position to upgrade and thats what people have difficulty understanding.
Exactly my thinking. I still don't think Clemens has gotten his fair share of experience in-game. However, Mangini and co. has seen him inpractices and such and have a much better understanding of how he should project. If it doesn't look as promising as once thought and Brohm is there, you should pull the trigger if you're the Jets.
using one of our day 1 picks on a qb is a stupid move any way you look at it.maybe one of our 4th rounders, but neither of our first 2 picks.
We were 3-4 and one game was against Miami, one the defense won and the third KC played to lose as we should have. I wouldn't make all of that into something it wasn't. If the FO liked him, he would have been named the starter at the end of last year. Open your eyes and see what they are saying.
Using a 2nd day pick on a QB is a complete waste. If we're going to draft a QB then it would need to be early on. We already have 2 mediocre QB's on staff, why add another one? I felt the Jets reached when they took Clemens a few years ago and it is starting to show. There is a reason why Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Big Ben, Carson Palmer, McNabb, etc.. all went at the top of the 1st round.
Yeah, exactly. You don't usually find a franchise QB in later rounds. Brady is certainly the exception and not the rule.
