I find that article to be another one that makes no sense at all. Why would we wait for draft day? How to they know Robertson will ever sign it? If there is a deal then get it done. My guess is it's just another bunch of crap like all the rest.
At this point, "cap space beggars" like us can't be choosers. Right now the 4th round looks like this: Jets: Pick 102 Pick 113 Broncos: Pick 108 Pick 119 Honestly, I'd send them D-Rob at this point and our 6th round pick for their 4th round pick 108. It's like the reverse fleecing of the Bears we did by getting Jones and only trading down a few picks in round two, but it's worth it IMO to get another high 4th round pick AND get rid of the D-slob contract. We'd be picking 102, 108 and 113....and our 4th rounders always rock (see the freshly contracted Kerry Rhodes for example, and Leon Washington, and Brad Smith)....
To the guys saying no less then a 4th you crack me up, we should take anything we can to unload this turd. He's got a huge cap hit tied to him, he's got no knee cartilage, and failed two physicals. I'd be happy if we got a 5th for him, just to get rid of the cap hit.
Don't worry about that, we will get rid of him. It may be to our advantage to wait. We can always cut him if necessary.
There's no way were getting a 3rd for Drob or even a special teams player... Maybe a 5th, which is plenty
Actually, it's not plenty for what it cost us in picks and money already. He could end up being an upper tier 4-3 DT for the next 5 years. The problem is, a 5th is all we probably will get and once again the Jets will take it up the ass for all of their stupidity.
correct me if im wrong, it happens and i am surely known for it. wouldnt cutting him cost us at least some money in cap space due to bonuses that have not been accounted for on his last contract that would be moved forward to now? if thats the case then yes trade him for absolutely anything they would give, although i think he could be a pretty good de and help any amount of a cap hit that we can avoid due to him is great. and trading him makes it so we get NO cap hit from his contract.
Yes it will and so will trading him. It would also cost us cap space if he retired but none of those will cost as much cap space as it would if we kept him under his current contract.
oh interesting, i had thought that trading him would wipe all of the cap hit out of our books. so it really doesnt matter how we get rid of him we are still gonna pay the same amount for not having him around.
No, because the bonuses were prorated over the number of years he was supposed to remain with the team. When the team trades a player early then they are recalculated over the length of time they were actually there. It will cost something but nowhere near the 12 million cap hit that it would cost to keep him under his current contract.
absolutely, i knew that was the case for him if we cut him. i knew that if we even cut him his cap number would be much much lower than the amount if we kept him. i did not realize that trading him would do the same thing to the cap as cutting him. i had thought that trading him put the cap hit to the team he is traded to immediately. now would they be responsible for any of the cap that was part of the signing bonus from the original contract.
If they didn't do it that way then teams would just sign everybody to 100 year contracts. Prorate them over 100 years and then trade them in 2 or 3 knowing the new team would have them restructure their deal anyway. That way they would end up paying them almost nothing. (Cap wise)
Cheetos would be too generous on their part. I'm thinking more like a jar of pickled unrecognizable animal part usually sold in most gas station snack shops i nthe South.
