thats the reason until the cap went up a lot football really wasnt known for much trading now with more room to work with teams are more willing to trade
No. They would only be responsible for his salary. In D-Rob's case, his upcoming salary is like 8 million for 2008. The Broncos would not trade for him unless they were going to sign him to a new deal immediately to get his cap number down. So in the end, once he signs the deal, they will be responsible for the new signing bonus. We are responsible for for the remaining 4 million or so of his prorated original signing bonus. So, if he stays, it costs us 12 million, if he goes he costs us 4 million. If we are unable to trade him, cutting him would also save us 4 million, but we could also wait until june first to cut him. If we do that it will cost us 2 million this year and 2 million in 2009.
Right but if we wait past June 1st then we have to pay him another 3 million roster bonus. It gives us two years but the amount to be prorated goes up by 3 million.
I'm pretty sure we can cut him at midnight, not pay the roster bonus, and spread it over the 4 million over 2 years, but I could be totally wrong.
Its looking more & more like this deal is gonna happen & Jets' are gonna get more draft picks....Yippee!!!
It must have gotten threw D-robs head that if he got cut, he wouldn't make half the money of just reworking his deal will get him.
