Man, this draft is so unpredictable. Random Draft Opinions and Notes: My sources are telling me the Darren McFadden to the Jets rumors are just a smoke screen to throw the Patriots off Gang Green's desire to draft Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston, who I really believe could go number one overall to Miami.....With that in mind, some in N.F.L. circles think the Miami Dolphins flirtation with taking Jake Long at number one overall is all about getting the Kansas City Chiefs to trade up for the former Michigan standout. Former Auburn star Quentin Groves will be drafted before 24. He is the best pure pass rusher in this draft and he is a better 4-3 defensive end than a 3-4 outside linebacker -- his film at Auburn proves that. I'd guess he is going in round one to Minnesota, Tennessee or Jacksonville....My favorite cornerback in the class is Tennessee State's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. I say this because of his excellent ball skills. His hands are so good, that he could be a top prospect at wide receiver. But the thing that makes him really special is what he can do when the ball is in the air. Very few cornerbacks can do what he does. http://www.draftdaddy.com/blog/nfldraft.cfm
not surprising to me, I have said it for a few days that I don't trust our over-interest in Mcfadden, actually i don't even trust that we like Gholston. I also think Gholston has a big chance to go #1 overall, with the potential trade of Jared Allen, KC would have the ammo to move up to #1 by giving up #5 and #17(from minnesota). Can you imagine how messed up it would be to have 3 AFC east teams picking in a row? I too agree that Groves will not make it to the end of round 1 he is too good. I'm really hoping the Jets trade back in round 1 with Carolina if they really are interested in Matt Ryan.
I would be pretty surprised if they selected Vernon Gholston if both were on the board. Having said that, I wouldn't be upset if they did.
DraftDaddy has lost the plot this year, have you seen their mock? last updated: 04/17/08 == 01. Miami Dolphins - DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State Gholston is a freak athlete and Parcells' best pass rusher is on Dancing With the Stars. == 02. St. Louis Rams - DT Glenn Dorsey, Louisiana State Dorsey could be the force along the front which the Rams franchise has been looking for in past drafts. == 03.Atlanta Falcons - OT Jake Long, Michigan The Falcons have a dire need at tackle and are impressed with Long's character and work ethic. == 04.Oakland Raiders - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas Al Davis believes in speed; McFadden is a classic Al Davis pick any way you want to look at it. == 05.Kansas City Chiefs - DE Chris Long, Virginia Pretty "Long" odds Chris makes it here but not impossible. The Chiefs need more along the line. == 06. New York Jets - RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon  The pick may seem surprising but the Jets still don't have a player who can push the pile. == 07. New England Patriots - DT Sedrick Ellis, Southern California Ellis is a force up front and can push the pocket. Pats have contract issues to deal with along the defensive line. == 08. Baltimore Ravens - CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State Ozzie Newsome reinforces his excellent draft reputation and tabs the special DRC despite kidney concerns. == 09. Cincinnati Bengals - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois If Rudi Johnson doesn't bounce back, Mendenhall can pick up the slack. == 10. New Orleans Saints - CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy McKelvin is a dynamic player and can assume the number one corner role one day in New Orleans. == 11. Buffalo Bills - DE Derrick Harvey, Florida The Bills can always use more pass rush, Harvey could be a dynamic 4-3 edge rusher. == 12. Denver Broncos - OT Ryan Clady, Boise State The Broncos lost Matt Lepsis and really need to protect Jay Cutler's blind side. == 13. Carolina Panthers - OT Branden Albert, Virginia The Panthers need to reload up front, Albert can step in at guard or tackle early in his career. == 14. Chicago Bears - OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh Otah is an tough lineman who shut down Chris Long this past season, potential left tackle starter. == 15. Detroit Lions - LB Keith Rivers, Southern California Matt Millen thanks his lucky stars that Rivers fell from the top 10, this pick is a no-brainer. == 16. Arizona Cardinals - DE Phillip Merling, Clemson The Cards value players that can rush the passer and play the run, Merling can do it all. == 17. Minnesota Vikings - QB Matt Ryan, Boston College The Vikings weren't planning to make this pick but if Ryan is still in play it has to be done. == 18. Houston Texans - OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt The Texans need an athletic player like Chris Williams to protect Matt Schaub's blind side. == 19. Philadelphia Eagles - CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida Andy reid loves speedsters from Florida, Jenkins can step in right away at returner. == 20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State Thomas is a playmaking WR from a program which has produced quite a few of those players in the league. == 21. Washington Redskins - DE Quentin Groves, Auburn The Redskins aren't getting enough from their pass rush, Groves has elite talent off the edge. == 22. Dallas Cowboys (VIA Cle) - CB Aqib Talib, Kansas If Jerry Jones can't get Pac Man, he really isn't concerned about Talib's character either. == 23. Pittsburgh Steelers - OT Gosder Cherlius, Boston College Cherlius can start at guard or right tackle now, and maybe convert to left tackle later. == 24. Tennessee Titans - RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina Johnson is an instant threat on 3rd downs and special teams, explosive speed can't be taught. == 25. Seattle Seahawks - WR Desean Jackson, California Jackson can step in on specials and eventually address the wide receiver weakness on Seattle's roster. == 26. Jacksonville Jaguars - LB Dan Connor, Penn State The Jaguars make quirky picks, it's not hard to imagine Del Rio appreciating Connor's ability. == 27. San Diego Chargers - OT Sam Baker, Southern California The Chargers have a hole at right tackle and Baker could start early at the position. == 28. Dallas Cowboys - RB Felix Jones, Arkansas Felix Jones could still be on the board at 28, Jerry Jones can't pass up on the big play running back. == 29. San Francisco 49ers (VIA Ind) - DE Cliff Avril, Purdue The Niners need more pass rush and Avril should be able to bring pressure from a 3-4 rush OLB position. == 30. Green Bay Packers - CB Antoine Cason, Arizona The Packers need more corners for the present against multiple wide outs and depth behind Woodson and Harris. == 31. New York Giants - WR Limas Sweed, Texas Round 2 == 32. Miami Dolphins - QB Joe Flacco, Delaware It's not hard to imagine the Jersey-born Parcells taking a liking to Jersey-born Flacco. == 33. St. Louis Rams - WR Lavelle Hawkins, California The Rams lost Issac Bruce and need to re-stock the WR position. Hawkins blew up the Senior Bowl. == 34.Atlanta Falcons (via OAK) - QB Brian Brohm, Louisville Brohm is a high character player who has some limitations, but offers great value at the top of round 2. == 35.Kansas City Chiefs - CB Patrick Lee, Auburn The Chiefs continue to rebuild the defense and address the cornerback position with the raw but talented Lee. == 36. New York Jets - DT Dre Moore, Maryland Moore can rotate through multiple positions in the 3-4 scheme, eventually replace Shaun Ellis. == 37.Atlanta Falcons - DT Kentwan Ballmer, North Carolina The Falcons don't have alot in the interior, Ballmer can occupy space and make the occasional play. == 38. Baltimore Ravens - RB Jamaal Charles, Texas Charles is an interesting prospect with breakaway speed and be used in a tandem with McGahee. == 39. San Francisco 49ers - DT Ahtyba Rubin, Iowa State The Niners need to get stouter up front and "the Tuba" is a rare commodity in this draft. == 40. New Orleans Saints - OC Mike Pollack, Arizona State The Saints need another center, Pollack is underrated but very solid prospect. == 41. Buffalo Bills - WR James Hardy, Indiana Hardy gives the Bills their missing big target and offers better value than the slot, could have gone higher. == 42. Denver Broncos - DB Kenny Phillips, Miami The safety position is a problem without John Lynch and Phillips is a versatile Miami safety. == 43. Carolina Panthers - QB Chad Henne, Michigan The Panthers front office loves Henne's toughness and leadership. == 44. Chicago Bears - RB Ray Rice, Rutgers Rice is a shifty, gutty runner with star potential. Will push Benson in the near term. == 45. Detroit Lions - LB Jerod Mayo, Tennessee Mayo could very well go higher but doesn't fit all schemes. The Lions stay patient and get their guy. == 46. Cincinnati Bengals - WR Mario Manningham, Michigan Manningham is a deep threat and the Bengals will eventually trade Chad Johnson. == 47. Minnesota Vikings - DE Calais Campbell, Miami The Vikings get a first round talent at second round prices. Campbell's stock has fallen but has great upside. == 48.Atlanta Falcons (via HOU) - LB Phillip Wheeler, Georgia Tech Wheeler is an underrated local product and the Falcons defense needs accountability. == 49. Philadelphia Eagles - WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma Injury and speed concerns may drop Kelly, but the Eagles see his potential and stop the slide. == 50. Arizona Cardinals - RB Matt Forte, Tulane The Cards will be able to wait beyond round one to address their running back need. == 51. Washington Redskins - DT Red Bryant, Texas A & M The Skins need to get stout up front, Bryant is a big man who can create a mess inside. == 52. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - CB Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech The Bucs need corners, Flowers' lack of elite timed speed can be overcome in the Tampa-2 defense. == 53. Pittsburgh Steelers - CB Antwaun Molden, Eastern Kentucky Molden has been impressive in draft season, showing teams he can be a real contributor. == 54. Tennessee Titans - WR Earl Bennett, Vanderbilt Bennett is a deadly crisp route runner and will also give his all in run blocking. == 55. Seattle Seahawks - TE Dustin Keller, Purdue Keller is one-dimensional but could provide serious offensive threat in the Seahawks' system. == 56. Green Bay Packers (via CLE) - OT Oneil Cousins, Texas El-Paso If he can learn for a couple seasons behind Taucher and Clifton, Cousins has great long term upside. == 57. Miami Dolphins - OT Duane Brown, Virginia Tech The Dolphins have several holes along the offensive front, Brown projects to multiple positions. == 58. Jacksonville Jaguars - DT Marcus Harrison, Arkansas After losing Stroud, the Jaguars need to reload at tackle, Harrison is an athlete with upside. == 59. Indianapolis Colts - DT Trevor Laws, Notre Dame The Colts have to improve the interior pass rush; Laws is an active play-maker who fits nicely in Indy's scheme. == 60. Green Bay Packers - TE John Carlson, Notre Dame The Packers like Donald Lee but want options. Carlson can block and has revived his draft stock at ND pro day. == 61. Dallas Cowboys - DB Tyrell Johnson, Arkansas State The Cowboys franchised Ken Hamlin this year and don't want to do it again. == 62. New England Patriots - CB Charles Godfrey, Iowa The Patriots value smart, tough and instinctual players like Godfrey. An underrated prospect. == 63. New York Giants - LB Tavares Gooden, Miami The Giants lost Reggie Torbor and Kawika Mitchell to free agency. Gooden is another backer from "the U".
That is a really shitty mock in general. The Jets picks are also terrible. If we use the 2nd roounder on a NT I will be pretty upset. Jonathan Stewart is such a huge reach at 6. I know he will be a good player, but he just ins't a top 6 player in my eyes. No way Matt Ryan falls that far, No way the raiders pass on Chris Long.
I like both Stewart and Harvey at 6. Probably give the nod to Harvey because it is more of a need, but would not be unhappy with Stewart.
Jonathan Stewart? That kid just had major foot surgery? No way...makes no sense. If Ryan IS there...I think the Jets take him and trade him to Baltimore or Carolina for a first round pick and another pick.
Not a big fan of Stewart at 6...but very few teams have any concerns about his surgery(which was on his toe and not his foot) as he will be ready for minicamps following the draft. He is a Steven Jackson type runner who may have even MORE upside.
I believe the hype that the Jets love Stewart, it would not surprise me one bit if he is the pick if the big three are gone and they can't trade down.
Study the Jets and their needs and it might not surprise you so much. If Gholston is there at 6 we are taking him, If you ask me McFadden isnt even an option at this point.
This is a terrible mock draft. No way the Rams pass on Jake Long. The only way they don't draft Long is if the Dolphins get him first. No way the Ravens pass on Matt Ryan if he falls to them. Sincerely doubt the Bengals pass on Keith Rivers and if they do, it sure won't be for a running back. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE JETS PICKS! "Hey, let's go sign a running back and a nose tackle, and then draft a running back and a nose tackle! They'll never see it coming!"
I'm not opposed to drafting J.Stewart....but I AM opposed to drafting him at #6...that's just sheer lunacy. If we don't grab a WR or CB in the 2nd round....I'm gonna throw up.
Study the Jets huh? Like I haven't been all offseason? Darren McFadden is the best player in this draft...that is why I would be suprised to take Gholston over McFadden. OLB isn't even that big of a need area either. CB, TE, WR, DE, and SS are all bigger needs. Study the Jets? I honeslty take that as an insult.
His note on Quentin Groves is meh too...he is a better 4-3 end now but 2 games at OLB coming off 3 dislocated toes is hardly proof he can't handle it. I want Moore in the second...he'd give us pretty good DL depth...but Stewart at 6? I'm a big Stewart fan, but he'll go in the last 22 picks of the first, not the first 10.
He may have been better as a 4-3 end at the college level, but I don't think there is any chance he could play end at the NFL level. The guy is only 250 pounds. He will get crushed by Offensive Tackles.
Osi and Strahan both slimmed down to around 255 or so in '05, and Groves is around there. Who else...Robert Mathis...Mark Anderson...KGB...Jason Taylor...
I think you mean FS CB Need but not that big of one i still think Miller will become a nice #2 CB WR Biggest Need TE not a need Baker is fine and Bubba if stays healthy is a nice back for year or two DE 3rd Biggest need imo Ellis is old and slowing down. Dre Moore in the 2nd I wouldnt be upset by for this reason but it depends on who is available FS 2nd biggest need Elam showed signs of potential but I still would like someone to challenge him LB we need depth I dont like most of our LB depth I like Gholston more then Mcfadden for the sheer fact we have nice depth at RB but we still dont know if we've found our Blitzers
