Call it a smoke screen or simply a leak from the draft room, but word is the New York Jets would seriously consider taking Ryan if he should fall to their spot at No. 6 overall. We've talked to three league sources who are convinced New York would snatch Ryan up at that spot even though they drafted Kellen Clemens just two years ago. That's good news for the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 5, who have seen the Jets and Patriots (No. 7) get plenty of interest in their picks from teams looking to trade up but might now hear from teams wanting to get ahead of New York in order to select Ryan.

We're also hearing that Carolina is in love with Ryan as well and is maybe the team most likely to trade into the top seven to get him.

Hopefully this is just an attempt to solicit trades. It would be great if Atlanta ended up taking Glenn Dorsey and another team traded up to take Matt Ryan. That would definitely leave Chris Long, Gholston, or McFadden on the board.

Alternatively, I could see the Jets trading down with the Panthers and taking a player like Jonathan Stewart. That would be my ideal situation. Sounds like they're at least creating options.

I hope this isn't true. I would love to see us trade out of the No. 6 pick if Gholston, McFadden and Chris Long are all gone.

If he is there, i'd take him. Mangini wants guys who are pure leaders and work relentlessly hard 24/7- here's his guy. Plus, he seems to turn it on in the 4th qtr- we don't have that QB, haven't had that for a while.

If we get nice trade down package, i'll take it. But if there is nothing good enough and he id there- Take the Franchise QB, we don't have one.

I thought it was weird that previous reports basically said there wasn't a shot in hell. You want to keep everything open, especially when you know teams are willing to give up a ton just to move up a few spots. I'm glad this report came out - not because I think it's true - but because it puts the bait out there and a catch will be handy if McFadden and/or Gholston are off the board when we're up to pick.

Actually, the 4th quarter (and later) is Kellen's forte'...what games were you watching?

I will agree that the jury is still out on KC, but ya can't be throwin' out blanket statements like that without looking any better than Dionne Warwick and her "friends".

    smoke & mirrors

no way we're that high on Ryan. He isn't even the best qb in this years draft (Brian Brohm).

That was my thinking. This was the first I had heard of us being interested. I liked the "leak" from a strategic perspective. The only thing that would concern me would be if this were in fact a leak and our previous denials were all smoke and mirrors.

Later, McShay says that Atlanta may be interested in moving into the first round again (to the 7th spot) to nab Ryan if they take Dorsey. That could help us if we're interested in a trade as well. Even adds Baltimore into the mix.

i think people are underrating brohm due to last year but I truly believe Matt Ryan is the best qb in this class. I watch alot of ACC ball and the guy is as cliche as it sounds a true "field general".

u wouldnt hear me complain a whole lot if we got him but if we passed on mcfadden or gholston to do so yeah i might. either way he'll be good hopefully he doesnt get stuck in ATL though hell prolly be fucked then.

KC does do well in the 4th, correct, but i think this kid can do better. He is a better leader than any QB we have. Those with opinions that matter will agree with that. I like KC and will root for him, but i'm not convinced he is the answer. He has the skills, but i question is mental attributes. When i compare him to Ryan, i feel Ryan has the kind of mental skill set i want behind center, and does have the physical tools to do well.

When i think of KC being our franchise guy, i don't get too excited about it. I haven't been that way since him being drafted. My opinion, though.

I see Ryan and i see a leader who wins, and only knows winning- how about bringing that mentality to this team? No excuses, just production and wins- we might begin to sound like the other successful teams out there.

I think Ryan is better than what we have now, considering its two years in a row now where the QB position has come into question. That frustrates me, since this is the most important position on the field.

Its not blanket statements, its the truth. We suck in the second half, even with KC. Is Ryan the answer? I don't know. No one does- but he gets us closer to answering those questions.

I havent posted much on this Draft prediction stuff. But I will say that I would be much happier with a QB at #6 then a RB. RBs in todays game are simply a product of their surroundings. Good surrounding cast, plug in a decent RB, and you have a good running game. McFadden is my LEAST desireable top 10 pick at the #6 spot. Just figured I would get that out there.

Even if we HAD to take a RB this draft (which we don't) I would take Mendenhall or Stewert before McFadden. Call me crazy.

    Just my 2 cents.

Looking forward to Saturday. Anyone know around what time (EST) the Jets will be on the clock?

I don't think we would be interested in Stewart even if we trade down....RB isn't one of the areas I can imagine our coaches sayign we have to take a high player at.....not to mention he is hurt.

As for all this Gholston talk....I'm not sure I like it. He's not as risky as takign a RB or WR who performed well at the combine, but that boosted him a lot closer to Long than he was during the college season. I'd be wary of anyone available at number 6 who wasn't considered the best at their position during the season, or wasn't considered a top guy last November.

  14. I wouldnt like the selection of Ryan..but i'd understand it. He has proper value for the spot, we obviously have some uncertainty at the most important position on the field...and having 2 young QB's has jump started acouple franchises recently(San Diego and Cleveland).

I just hope we truly believe he's an elite level prospect worthy of the 6th pick...and his big board value isnt a product of an otherwise weak QB class..

    Great bait message.

This Draft is gonna be good. I can sense there will be a lot of moving around in the 1st round already. Cant' wait. Very nicely done.

    that's exactly what i'm wondering.

is Value specific to each draft? in previous drafts with better QB's, i doubt Ryan would be worthy of the 6th pick. in this draft, his value is there; but what's that saying? that because none of the other QB's are elite prospects it's okay to settle on Ryan at #6? whereas in other drafts you wouldn't consider taking him then.

Both of which would be a mistake in my opinion. I've been really anti-Clemens, but I also do not think we need to give up on him completely. I just don't like Ryan one bit. I'm all for spending out 2nd round pick on either Flacco, Chad Henne or Brian Brohm and giving Clemens competition to find out who will be our future QB.
