I'm not even talking about this thread, and you know it. You don't respond to other posters with direct call-outs the way you expect them to respond to you. At least you're spelling 'theories' correct now, it only took about 5 years on this board. Now we gotta get started on that whole 'mediocre/medicore' mess.

I agree i dont get us trying to select another offensive tackle or guard when we just signed 2 of them. Oh lets draft jake Long or another tackle so Woody can move to guard, does anybody realized that HE SUCKED at guard he was actually solid at tackle and that is why we signed him. We didnt sign him to be a guard. Why replace Brandon Moore he is solid, not everybody can be a pro-bowler on your team.
How about upgrading positions we actually need like reciever, linebacker and corner.

Yeah i love Justin Miller but it kinda bugs me when i see oh Justin is gonna be good this yera we dont need a corner.Yeah we kinda do need a corner we have Revis and that is it all we have behind that are okay guys that should be on the bench.

Depth is for a team like the Patriots or Chargers teams that are DEEP i cant name one position we are deep.

Teste's point is what good is worrying about depth when we still have holes that need to be filled, in that sense I do agree with the statement

Because the team is likely going to have to do both at the same time... fill holes, and build depth. We have already filled a lot of holes. Much less that has to be done.

Every single team in the league has holes at many positions, it doesn't mean you fill every starting position until you are content and then start worrying about depth with the leftover money. Sometimes some starters at some positions are less important than depth at other positions.

While I agree in part, AT, depth should always be a concern. We need astarters, yes, but we need role guys and backups as well. It all has to be addressed.

Quote: "...The Jets Need Offensive Lineman

    By Joe Caporoso | April 22nd, 2008

    E-mail | Print | Share

Today the Chiefs signed former Jets backup lineman Wade Smith, which should have been a head turning move to Gang Green fans everywhere. Can you name the top three backups on the Jets offensive line as of today? If you can, then you know the Jets have a serious depth issue behind their five starters.

If Nick Mangold gets hurt, who steps in at center? Damien Woody could slide over from tackle but then that leaves Clint Oldenburg to play right tackle, who was completely overwhelmed when he received playing time last year. He is better served as being a practice squad player.

If Brandon Moore or Alan Faneca get hurt, then comes off the bench to play guard? Jacob Bender is currently the top backup despite spending all of last season being inactive. Also keep in mind that he played in a triple option offense at a Division I-AA school. Another option could be Robert Turner who was also looked completely out of place in an NFL game when he had a chance last season.

Oldenburg, Bender, and Turner are currently the Jets top three backups on the offensive line, which is a major cause of concern. Right now they don’t have a single capable backup on their entire roster. If one starter gets hurt, there would instantly be a gaping hole on the offense.

I expect the Jets to draft at least one and potentially two lineman this weekend and also bring in another guy with some experience off waiver wires after the June 1st cuts...."

agree, usually, due to injuries, free agency, the BPA is best way to go. Like when Giants drafted LT, they had some great LBs at time.

Again if your eyes & ears were opened when it came to my post you would see I always reply. The problem is you & others do not like the replies so you say I did not reply which is just plain hooey. Just like now you have not replied to my question. Cmon now you have some thoughts as to why since you became a NYJ fan they have neither won a SB or a AFC Championship. I also thought of you of being brighter & smarter then some of the board but now you just sinking down to the bottom of the barrel with the others. Stop worry about my english since that will not win us SB & start worrying about getting us quality players that can win us CHAMPIONSHIPs.

Try doing it less vaguely and less prick-ish and see if it works.

I'd also stop using dumbass internet cliches like capitalizing CHAMPIONSHIPS. As earth shattering as this may be to you, you're not the only one who wants the Jets to win CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Hahaha, okay champ I'll bite. I'm always worried about picking up quality players, and sick of going after second-tier guys. I like the way this regime has drafted the past couple of years because I see them targeting player in a more intelligent fashion, although I'm not happy when one doesn't live up to the billing that they were drafted with, like your favorite guy Brick. The Jets portray themselves as a second-class organization and have for years and that's why they are treated as such throughout the league, possibly even during negotiations. I can see that changing with the way the organization is configured now for whatever reasons, but you have to wonder if they'll be able to make it meaningful in the short time they will have.

I think the main problem we have had is consistency since half of the coaches we get are run out of town and our schemes change every few years, and the players we have no longer fit. And the other half of the coaches we get seem to be just half-wits. Very few teams in the league win championships with consistency, and the ones that do are only able to sustain that for a short time and after the success is an almost guaranteed regime change a few years later.

A team like the Pittsburgh Steelers, had Cowher handled his QB situation a bit differently over the years, could easily have ended up a dynasty in the late 90s, early 2000s I think. And what they did was build a system-oriented team and stuck with it and built with excellent players who fit their schemes that LOOKED like quality players until they left for other teams and didn't fit the systems as well. We need to stick with this scheme and build on it, for offense and defense. The main this that got me about Herm, and there were many although I gave him way too many chances, was how he would change offensive or defensive schemes on a whim as opposed to finding coaches who fit his scheme. He gave up and gave up and gave up on systems. We can't do that.

We need consistency, we need coaches who know the schemes well and are able to teach the players, we need players who fit and understand the scheme and buy into them, and most of all can perform in them at a high level regardless if it is as a role-player or a player that his unit is built around. We need coordinators who can incorporate different approaches into their overall gameplans. We need creativity, we need adaptive coaching, and we need luck. These are the things that championships are founded on. Not just the quality players you are harping on.

BTW, you spelled all of the words in your post correctly, I commend you.

I assume by "WC" you mean "water closet." I am unsure why you would want the NYJ's to assist you in getting to a toilet in England. Maybe I'm missing something.

    Thanks.

Usually I don't care about spelling or grammar, but champ has a lot of fun with the English language so I like to give him a hard time about it. :)

Getting peanuts, beer bottles, beer caps, and popcorn thrown at you by drunken fans while you were an usher at Shea made you more bitter than most. I get that. Times have changed, though. Now we have something called 'Security'.
