IMHO the receiving first TE is the most under-rated Offensive position in the NFL. Teams that have a legitamate one usually are successful.
It totally opens up running game, make sthe play action more viable and creates nightmare matchups for defense, as they have to decide between a LB or CB to cover.

How mant times last year were you watching Jets and said 'pass to TE' as ypou tried to predict the play?
Well, its a great play if you have the horse. Now we have the right guy in that slot.

This pick wil lallow us to have ahigher 3rd down success % and keep the D rested as well.

    Great pick IMHO.

I think Gholston will be great, but I think our horrid Offense will see a bigger yoeld from the new TE.

He would also be that red-zone threat that we've been lacking. It would be difficult for defenses to match-up against him. H-Back size with WR speed.

Not even a guide dog could have helped us to find the red-zone last year.

I won money on a prop bet last season that the next play was a fade pass to Coles as soon as they got inside the 10.

There is no way Keller will have a bigger impact this year then Gholston. In case you havent watched the Jets in recent years, they never use the TE, no matter who comes in as their new TE. Then you have to factor in that we already have 2 quality te's already on the team.

If you study Schott, he WANTS to use the TE more, aka what he did in san Diego.
You need to study what your OC wants to do with proper tools.

And as mentioned, this isnt a Traditional TE, this is a slot TE. Totally different.

i hope that they both come and play good enough for other teams to have to game plan for and free up some people on both sides of the ball

hi i am new to board

at first when i heard the word TE, i cringed

then i looked at his Highlights!!!

this dude is no TE, he is a WR and he looks much better than Ben Watson.

I said this in another thread I think he will be used more as a WR then TE and he is more versatile then any of the top 5 WR and he has the speed and size of most of the top 5 WR's AND he doesnt have any of the red flags that the WRs had Sweed Injury, Thomas 1 yr wonder, Jackson size concerns, forget what they said about Kelly. I really have come to love this pick.

doesn't reaally matter where he is used as long as it's a favorable matchup for the offense.kids gonna be a star.it will be fun to watch him against ne and their lb corps.

    From PFT...see bolded section below.

I wonder what they guy "won" looked like.

    KEGLAR EXPECTS TO BE CLEARED
Posted by Mike Florio on April 28, 2008, 1:18 p.m.

In the interests of being fair and balanced (as opposed to our usual strategy of being arbitrary and capricious), we?ve been contacted by the agent for Titans rookie linebacker Stanford Keglar, who wanted to give us Keglar?s side of the story as to our posting from earlier today regarding Keglar?s pending criminal charges.

Jeff Chilcoat of Sterling Sports Management in Columbus, Ohio tells us that he expects Keglar to be cleared. ?We fully anticipate the charges will be dropped later this month,? Chilcoat said by phone. (And since it?s the 28th day of the month, the dropping of the charges therefore should come fairly soon.)

Chilcoat explained that Keglar was a bystander in a bar fight involving former Purdue tight end Dustin Kellar, who was selected in the first round on Saturday by the Jets. Kellar apparently was on the losing end of the deal, so Keglar jumped in to break it up.

    Supposedly.

We?ve got no reason to doubt Chilcoat for claiming that his client is innocent, and we appreciate Chilcoat giving us his client?s side of the story. But the reality is that every agent or lawyer with a client facing criminal charges is going to say the guy didn?t do it.

Regardless of whether, you know, he did.

"Wants" and actually doing something are totally different things. Baker was our TE last year, and while he did have 41 catches,i think everyone on this board is in agreement that he was underutilized. Keller will have an impact, just not to close to the impact Gholston will have for our anemic pass rush. He will have a bigger impact for the simple fact that pass rushers are a hell of a lot more important to winning football games than a pass catching TE.

Enough people. Did it ever dawn on you guys that the reason we did not use the TE in the past is because:
    A) Our OL could not give the QB enought time
    B) Baker was the blocker and even when he wasn't he could not get enough separation
C)Baker did not open up the field not did he get yards after the catch (much)
    D) All of the above
Do you guys really think we drafted a TE that high with good WR skills not to throw to?
    please reconsider

I like him and Franks as Red Zone TEs...we all know will find the ball in the endzone even if he was blind, and now Keller adds the ability to mismatch and throw off defenses..great pick

if our tight end last yr was gates, shockey or gonzalez he would not have been under-utilized.baker is what he is.average.maybe a tadd below.very hard worker.we have a weapon now.a guy that was targeted by the fo before the draft as someone they would trade up for.the best tight end in the draft.a productive college starter voted mvp, with ridiculous measurables.he will be our day 1 starter and he will see plenty balls come his way.
