Maybe they just want somoene to collect Nuge's practice FGs during training camp and kick them back to him.
I think that alone says something. Granted we didn't win a lot of field position battles, but perhaps thats an indication of the FO's lack of confidence in Nuge? Personally I perceive him to be average at best.
Isn't it usually standard practice to bring in a K and a P for camp in order to keep the starters legs fresh?
yes this the truth. there have been a couple of people saying that this is an indication of the FO's distrust in Nugent. with a working offense i would agree with you. How many times were we in position to kick a long FG? how many times were we so far behind at the point we could have kicked the FG we decided that if we can't get a touchdown lets pin them deep and get great Field Position and get a td in 2 minutes? How many times did we go for it on fourth down in that range ? these are all factors to take into account. We were a horrid offense, so already we only have a few chances to kick a long FG (relatively) how many times were we rediculously behind when in position to kick a long FG? Pats 2, Cowboys come to mind immediately. How many times would it have been smarter to play the position game? Dolphins games come to mind... Im not saying that the FO didn't pass on a few chances to kick long fieldgoals, because they did. but the number of times they passed isn't just attributed to thier "distrust" of Nugent.
Try out in 1994? Ok honestly I had to look that up in wikipedia. I was 10 at the time. I do remember Raul Allegre though!!!
Wow, some of you guys are reading way too much into this. As said above, it's just a move so Nuge can get some rest during camp. Nothing more. I'm perfectly comfortable with Nuge as our kicker, 2nd round pick or not.
