Javon Walker was reportedly outplayed by Drew Carter at Oakland's recent OTAs. Coach Lane Kiffin says Walker needs to improve his conditioning. Fantasy spin: We don't put much stock in summer practice reports for most veterans, but Walker is a different case. He has a ton to prove after looking like a shell of his former self last winter because of his chronic knee problems. We are ranking him as a fantasy reserve until he shows something, and this is a rough start. sn.com
I wonder what Raider Joe will say in his defense...that we'll see him in a wheel chair schooling Darrelle Revis this year..
The guy seems like damaged goods. Knee problems and pysch problems after having his teamate die in his arms. Alot to overcome. And of course the Raiders give him tons of cash for a maybe.
aaaahahahahahah...:raiders: Crazy ol' diaper-pants needs to let our DC go so we can hire him. Bastard.
Ya hate to draw conclussions this early...but usually coaches/players/media are blowing sunshine up everyone's butts w/ optimism about all new additions and prospects leading up to the season. Arguably after Deangelo Hall and possibly DMAC, Walker was the raiders biggest get...it cant be good when the HC is calling you out this early in the game.
Oh boy, the sky is falling. I actually saw a report that Kris Jenkins has gone from 390 pounds to a mere 360 pounds and people on this site are applauding it as good news. Walker is coming off knee surgury, let's get to July before his conditioning is considered an issue.
What scares me is the head coach calling out his players like that. I can't see Mangini ever giving something up like that to the media.
Yes, it is good news. He is down to the weight that he is supposed to be at for the rest of the season, and he did it before the 1st day of OTAs. That shows commitment and he wants the $25K for each correct weigh-in as well. Walker shows up out of shape and is outplayed by Drew Carter, I don't remember the last time he made an impact on his former team, who's name is escaping me right now.
An injury prone, 30 year old guy who weighs 360? I have a hard time believing that was his playing weight when he was an impact player. As far as Walker, I haven't even seen a direct quote from Kiffin. I saw this in Jerry Mcdonald's blog: I'm not thrilled to read it, but I'm not shocked when the guy is coming off knee surgery. Kiffin could have been saying that as a fact about a guy who is still rehabbing, not necessarily a scold. When they signed him I remember reading that he was expected to be 100% by training camp. That's over 2 months from now.
I stand corrected on his age but he hasn't been an impact player in a few years. A new environment could give him the juice he needs. But no matter how big you are, having to lose 30-40 pounds in an offseason to reach your playing weight is usually not a good sign.
I want to see what raiderjeaux has to say when Walker drops a pass on a crossing route and Jamarcus gets angry and eats him.
coming off 2 knee surgeries, being given a truckload of money before proving anything, and still chompin' back the zoloft as a result of a team-mate dying in your arms..aren't great signs either.
Just pointing out a little hypocrisy. I certainly have my questions and concerns about Walker. But a guy with no sources says Russell is 300 pounds, he's proven wrong, and it merits a thread here. Kiffin says Walker needs to improve his conditioning and it merits a thread here. Jenkins has to lose thirty pounds in one off season to get down to 360? Crickets chirping.
Kris Jenkins is a nose tackle. Jamarcus Russell is a quarterback. Maybe you don't see a difference, but I do.
