Jets sign two corners By Hoss Aultman Posted May 20, 2008 The New York Jets have signed free agents CB Jonathan Zenon and CB Kenny Patton. Zenon (6-0, 176/LSU/Breaux Bridge, LA), who played in 41 games, starting 30 at LSU, finished with 91 tackles and nine interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns. On the road to the 2007 National Championship, he had an 18-yard interception return in the fourth quarter of the SEC Championship game vs. Tennessee to seal a victory for LSU. Patton, (5-11, 193, Hawai?i/Altadena, CA) was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Oakland Raiders on May 4, 2007 before being released May 15, 2007. At Hawai?i, Patton was a four-year starter at cornerback, totaling Zenon is a player I liked from LSU & hopefully can make it as a special teamer & elevate to a nickle back. He's also a good hitter & very active.
Please keep to the topic of the thread please. The back and forth that has been going on around here lately is getting quite tiresome especially over such insignificant things.
Unless it is used as a possessive, e.g. the Jets' decision to draft Gholston turned out to be an excellent one after the rookie made first team All Pro while leading the NFL with a record setting 24 sacks.
I think Zenon has a chance of making the New York Jet's. He was a good player in college. There's no apostrophe in CBs either
I apologize to everyone that reads this forum for turning this thread into what it has become. I get aggravated when someone consistently makes the same error and refuses to correct themselves. That being said, I've made the same error of trying to correct someone else's ignorance too many times and need to stop. Go Jets'.
Zenon, son of Agreophon, was a native of the Greek town of Caunus in lower Asia Minor. He moved to Philadelphia in Egypt and became a private secretary to Apollonius, the finance minister to Ptolemy II Philadelphus and Ptolemy III Euergetes during the 3rd century BC. Eh, special teamer. Maybe.
Jonathan Zenon http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/cb/jonathanzenon.html Strengths: Good natural athlete...Adequate size and bulk...Great instincts and awareness...A good leaper...Nice hands and ball skills...Has a knack for making big plays...Does a great job in zone...Pretty physical with receivers...A three-year starter in the SEC. Weaknesses: Timed speed is just average...Is not very explosive and lacks a burst...Is not very strong...Lacks fluid hips...Struggles in man-to-man situations...Questionable effort in run support...A sub par tackler...Is not a great technician..Limited schematically. Sounds a little familiar with Lowery except that his lack of mastering a playbook will be his undoing. Kenny Patton http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=18729 05/03/07 - Undrafted Rookie Free Agent, signed by Raiders: Here's another prospect coming off an injury-plagued senior season, in his case, a broken collarbone. In a game against USC, Patton intercepted a fade pattern intended for Dwayne Jarrett. The memory seems to have stayed with Kiffin. - San Francisco Chronicle 03/29/07 - The biggest surprise od the Hawaii Pro day was Kenny Patton, who missed UH's final eight games because of a broken collarbone. Patton had the highest vertical jump (41 1/2 inches) and ran 40 yards in 4.5 seconds. After the drills, the New Orleans Saints set up a private interview. - Stephen Tsai, Honolulu Advertiser 10/17/06 - CB Kenny Patton, a fifth-year senior, is out four to six weeks with a broken collarbone. A veteran of 24 career starts, Patton injured the collarbone in the first quarter of Hawaii's 68-37 rout of Fresno State. Comeback player. Camp fodder and compettition depth for Lowery. Typical signings in preperation for Jet's training camp.
Zenon is a player & makes plays. He's not so good in man-to-man single coverage, but he may excel as a nickle CB {Randall Gay} or as a free safety. He has good speed & is a strong hitter & tackler.
I agree with Run'n'Gun10. Zenon looked very good when I saw him at LSU, and with the Jets plethora of mediocre players opposite Revis he could stand out and make this team.
i think if we throw enough shit against the wall, some of it's bound to stick. we know we need to improve our secondary. i've got no problem bringing guys into camp who, if they suprise us, great, and if they suck, then we cut em, and it don't cost us a thing. good move, just for the sake of seeing what they got. we need help.
Personally for me...Zenon is one the the players that I liked in college & hoped that the Jets would bring into camp. Zenon was brought into camp on another team & was obviously cut or not signed. I'm very happy he's here, because he does make plays & he plays tough.
you forgot to mention that his mother was Zena, the warrior princess! He was a product of a one nighter between Zena and that cute side kick.
Strait was the best CB & best defensive player in the nation...He struggled, so that's why I highly doubt Zenon makes the team. I wish him all the best though PS last I saw of Strait, he was struggling to make a CFL Team. (He was amazing @ Oklahoma)
I've had the "pleasure" of watching Zenon play during his career here at LSU. Though he has some great highlight clips, he gets BURNED way too often, is a sucker for even mediocre playaction, requires too much of a cushion, and (worst of all) thinks he's much better then he really is. I doubt he makes the roster.
