I remember listening to Joe Beningo on the FAN after the D'Brickashaw pick was announced: "No! No!" Just wondering if there are any fans out there, having watched him in Arizona, think we should have pulled the trigger instead on Leinart.
He's been plagued by injuries. If he doesn't produce this season...with all of the weapons that he has in Arizona, then I think it's safe to say he's a bust. I've always like Matt Leinart, and I hope he's successful.
I just couldn't be a Leinart fan. So much talent around him at USC, and dude just didn't have elite physical skills at the QB position. Being a "winner" has never been much of a reason to rank a QB prospect highly unless he's got everything else going for him. Dude's got a life 9/10 dudes would kill for though. Still glad we took D'Brick.
I'm glad we have Ferguson too...but Matt Leinart was very elite in college. He's arguably one of the best quarterbacks to ever take the field out west. Leinart has a big arm and he's a smart guy that played in a pro-style offense at USC. He has a lot of talent around him in Arizona, so let's see if he can stay healthy and win again. Winning is what the game is about.
Leinart isn't a bust even if he struggles this year, some of these QBs take years to really get it and sometimes it takes a change of scenery. All the guys at the top w/ the exception of Mario Williams are all in teh sameboat, they have shown flashes but not consistency.
Absolutely...we could have traded down a few spots in the draft, picked Leinart, than picked up a better tackle than Brick in the 2nd Round. I hate to say it, but Brick is looking like he peaked in College. Anybody that says they would rather have K.C. than Leinart are full of crap.
Then I would like to meet the tooth fairy and say hello to Santa Claus....... I am not full of shit by saying in the real world I would rather have Clemens and Brick then a fantasy trade down, Leinart and some otherworldy dude you somehow think would look good next to Adrian Clark.
I would have been rip shit if the jets drafted Leinart... when I watched USC play he never wowed me. He was a product of the talent around him I believe.
Leinart behind last year's Jets o-line would have been a disaster. That being said, I still think the guy has great talent and a big part of me wishes we had taken him.
Brick was the right pick. I have absolutely no qualms about our first 2 picks in that draft. Being QB's, Leinart and Clemens still deserve the benefit of the doubt for another few years. As far as brick vs. McNeil goes, look at SD's line the past 2 years vs. ours. Plus, McNeil regressed a LOT this past season with the rest of the line not playing up to par. McNeil also has that degenerative back condition that could run him out of the league in just a few years time. Brick, while inconsistent, has shown the ability to stop ELITE pass rushers and be the elite pass blocker that we dreamt of when he was chosen. There's no doubt that he should be more consistent with the spot next to him being occupied by someone who's actually good at the position, not a turnstile or a self-and-media-overrated douche. Once his young metabolism slows down the guy's going to be able to hold the weight he hasn't been able to up to now as well.
Agreed. People are so quick to label draft picks as busts. How anyone can label a QB, arguably the hardest position on the field, a bust after only 3 years is beyond me. We really won't know the whole truth of if he was worth it or not until his career is over.
Thank god we passed on him and Bush....not saying he's a bust, however I don't think he's that good IMO.
All we have to do is look to last year where Eli Manning was labeled a bust until January. Eli still hasn't had a big time year but it doesn't matter, he led his team to a SB. he could suck the rest of his career and now that trade was worth it.
i cant be a fan of his, he got punked by ashton kutcher and was ratting out his friend so he wouldnt get in trouble, what a puss.
"Pulled the trigger." Haha, don't shoot the messenger, but the most talented thing about Leinart is his hair gel.
Leinart had two things going for him: He QB'd some of the best college teams in history. and He had excellent pro size. Otherwise his arm was weak, he's caught in way too much bullshit outside of football, and his arm sucks. Cutler as a prospect >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Leinart as a prospect
I disagree with every single word in this post, especially the last two sentences. How could D'Brick have peaked already before he's even 25? And what "better tackle" than D'Brick?
