why the fuck would we want to trade for Shockey, when we spent a 1st round pick on a Receiving TE.

You're bang on....this would be a stupid move.

You can say what with EVERY position on the football field... I don't buy your argument 1 bit.

This is the problem, and the reason Baker is still going to be on the team this year. Franks is a MUCH better TE then Baker, and only 30 YO. Franks has also been hurt for the last two years. If they release Baker, and Franks gets hurt again, they are up a creek.

I really am surprised they didn't have the car towed, that would have been a riot. By the time he got to Staten Island, the car would have been stripped. if it even made it there.

Bakers screwed. He is going to be the #3 TE for the next 2 years. What will his new contract be worth then?

The Jets hold all the cards, they should just do nothing. Baker isn't like Coles who has a lot of team support. I'll bet his stunt with the car upset some of the players also.

That's the thing - no one is supporting Baker's motives here. It's amazing that he doesn't get that. He's a man on an island who has alienated himself from the Jet favorite he was and has done the same with his teammates.

It's such a sad thing to watch.

In my opinion, the best thing the NYJs can do is nothing with Chris Baker.

I think he should be invited to practice and try his best. The FO should not be willing to discuss money or contract with Chris Baker until this deal is up.

Chris should be treated politely and encouraged in every way to do a good job on the field.

Otherwise, he is toast. Out of control, without sympathy and victimized by horrible advice.

It is not in the NYJs' best interest to trade Chris Baker. He should be kept on the roster and encouraged to "mend his ways" and play as well as he can.

It is the only chance his career has, and it's the best outcome for the NYJs as well.

Later this season he will be on the practice squad, and the team president will still be the team president. Who won that power struggle?

  8. This situation has really gotten ugly. Would ther even BE an interested team in him at this point?

I'm sure some TE needy team would take a flier on him..perhaps the Saints or Giants could be possible destinations.

But with the garbage Baker is pulling now, it will make it harder for the FO to garner any value for him....

I'm sure other GM's are going to look at this incident when he becomes a free agent later this year.

The Jets should keep him on the roster just long enough that he can't play for any other team this year. That way, with a year layoff (I don't imagine we'd actually use him) he won't be able to get more than the vet. minimum next year. How's that for a salary upgrade?

I think you're half right here. Clearly, Chris Baker has done irreparable damage with the fan base and the front office. However, I'll bet he commands a whole lot of respect from his teammates.

Basically, the car stunt was an extended middle finger to the boss. Now, that pisses off the boss (Tangini) and it pisses off the customers (us) but it is satisfying as hell to his co-workers, I'll bet. I'd wager Baker got "mad props" from at least Laveranues Coles but probably from a lot of other discontent, quieter teammates.

He's the punk class clown. Nobody is gonna stand up and support his shenanigans, but you tell me- the kid who put the tack on the bitchy teacher's chair in high school and got slapped with detention- didn't you secretly respect and admire that kid?

No. They were disrupting my education. This is why I've turned out so hopeless.

Exactly. He runs with the special teams guys or gets locked into a film study room for all of training camp and then bench him all year or put him on IR. But what ever you do, don't release or trade him. That is exactly what he wants. Suck up his pay and let him rot.

You guys have it all wrong.

Baker was simply telling everyone that he is to be respected because he should be the President of the team.

Curtis Martin talks a big game, but Chris Baker is a do-er.

like I said before, never has a player that has done so little made such a big deal about a new contract--is he confused into thinking he is the Michael Jordan of football?
