    JETS CANCEL MONDAY PRACTICES
Posted by Mike Florio on July 28, 2008, 10:21 a.m. EDT
The New York Jets have announced that both practices set for Monday, July 28 have been canceled.

No reason was given for the decision to pull the plug on the 8:45 a.m. EDT and 5:45 p.m. EDT sessions.

Practice resumes on Tuesday, with two sessions.

Meanwhile, the players will get an unexpected day off, fairly early in the training-camp process.

Majority of coaching staff needed to meet Green Bay deadline for Favre trade? One can hope.

    Weird.

I hope everyone is OK and nothing bad happened.

This certainly seems fishy. I could see Mangini, given his "kinder, gentler" approach to buring out his players in camp, would cancel one of the sessions and make it a 1 practice day rather than a two-a-day, but to cancel both practices?

I hope nothign bad has happened....I imagine that if somethgin has happened, we'd have details too.

There should be some sort of explanation for this.....it's a weird thing for the 4th day of camp.

It's not Favre, that's not their style. I don't think that they'd allow for issues regarding one player to affect the rest of the team.

You don't think they're having a private meeting with Favre to convince him to come here?

You wouldn;t cancel a practice for that. Mangini wouldn't HAVE to be there, and even if he did....let's say Mangini and Schotty had to be there, Callahan and the rest of the coaches can run a practice

This really does sound like something's up. Mangini could just have surprised everyone with a day off, but that isn't his style and he has already been running a lighter camp...

It will be fascinating to see what's going on here!

I doubt this has anything to do with Favre.

Hopefully this has nothing to do with anything bad happening.

If I were to guess though, I'd say it probably has a lot to do with the torrential rains from yesterday that flooded a lot of Long Island. The grounds are probably water-logged, and they're trying to minimize risk of injury.

I hope this means that we are making a serious push for Favre. Right now, we are a 6 win team because of our crappy qb's.

They can play in the bubble in the event of rain, so I'd venture to guess that those facilities would be something they could use the day after.

The team doesn't know it, but they're all being traded to Green Bay for Brett Favre.

To speculate that we canceled both practices and everything that goes along with them, just so some members of the FO and CS could hold a meeting with Brett Favre, seems a little "Oliver Stone-esqe," wouldn't you agree?

Just practices were cancelled right? Not meetings? This could be just to give them a break. Don't read too much into it.

EDIT - or they could be going on a bonding trip

I hope not, because it doesn't say much about us as an organization that we have to shut everything down just to try and sign a retired QB.

Most likely the suspension of practice is weather related. Some of you could turn a Tanny bowel movement into a reach for Favre.

definitely a favre reach. they have a bubble for weather related instances. there is no doubt in my mind this is to get the deal done.

I hadn't considered the bubble, but I still think the Favre thing is a stretch.

The flooding makes sense - maybe travel is an issue today. Maybe the Jets are helping the community with the flooding somehow.

If that's what it is though, why not just tell us that?

I kind of think with what I have read about Favre stating that he was going to wait a couple more days before reporting to GB camp in order for GB to get a deal done that would allow Favre to come back and play football, it seems more than coincidental that the Jets have cancelled both practices today.

I think they are avidly trying to hammer out a deal.

But, I do think that Tangini will hold a very hard line about what they are willing to part with in order to get him.

I still am not completely convinced that this is a good football move - it may pay off, but has just as high a chance of blowing up in everyone's face.
