If Jenkins is as good as everybody says does he really need to resort to holding? Check out the pictures in the article titled Nose Is A Dirty Job at the official website. Jenkins is pulling Mangold down by his sleeve three times in the first ten pictures. And another time he is getting help from another D lineman. http://newyorkjets.com/articles/show.2288-nose-is-a-dirty-job-and-jenkins-loves-it
I'm guessing that you're referring to the pics where he's got a handful of jersey in the shoulder area of Mangold? D-linemen pull jerseys all the time to manipulate their opponent. It's not illegal and can be very effective. edit: here's the link
i think the only way a d-linemen can get called for holding an o-lineman is if they're trying to prevent the o-lineman from pulling or otherwise moving to a different area. They're allowed to pull and hold the jersey as much as they want other than that.
Love it. This is a very large, very quick, very nasty man. He was born to play NT. What's the problem?
Ever heard anyone say "there's holding on every play"? What do you think Mangold et al are doing in 11 on 11?
If an O lineman pulled a D lineman jersey like that, he would probably get called for holding unless you play for the patriots. Everybody has been saying how Mangold was being beaten badly by Jenkins. The fact that Jenkins has to pull him by his jersey shows that Mangold is not that easy to beat.
No, they wouldn't necessarily get called, regardless of who they play for, that is why the saying exists. If holds were called every time they occurred, there would probably be at least one flag on every play. By the way, I'm pretty sure all 3 of those pics are on the same rep.
Dude if you have ever played football, and played on the line on either side of the ball on every play someone is doing something illegal. If your not, you're not trying. I hope Jenkins does everything in his power to beat blocks, and I hope Mangold learns from this and takes a different approach next time. Good thing it's just Training camp right?
That´s compeltely legal, and there are even teqniques where they teach you to do exactly that like "Push-Pull". He may also be supposed to open a Blitzlane for someone and tries to get Mangold out of the way.
Its fine for not knowing if thats holding or not, but the Patriots claim is a little absurd. This thread should be called: Pictures of Jenkins and Mangold.
Somone had to bring it up:rofl: agree with everyone else, the only thing i see from that thread is that Jenkins knows what he is doing, he will be massive for us this season and he can push and pull and do whatever he likes, its not often a D-Lineman especially a NT gets called for holding.
If he can stay healthy and draw the double teams that he should it will make it really easy for Pace and Gholston to get up a head of steam coming in on passing downs and for Harris on running downs.
Most of those photos are not during live scrimmage 11-11's. They're one on one "Dog fights". It's no insult to Mangold that he struggles w/ Jenkins in them. Their may not be a guy in the NFL who can block him in that drill. He's too big, strong and athletic...and you can't get your hands on him.
