If Brett Favre has two seasons like last year, he'd be the obvious #2. Though if he's only here for one season, and equals whatever his worst statistical season was, he'd still probably at the very worst crack the top 7. god that's sad
Best single season his '02 rabks 2nd behind Vinny's '98 but all time: 1. Namath 2. Chad- 2nd best win %, only QB to start in 3 different postseasons. 3. Vinny- has best win % among starters 4. O'Brien- had great start to career and should be higher 5. Todd-had a nice 2 year run but I think that had more to do w/ talent around him.
O'Brien also led us to the postseason 3 times but he lost his job for the '86 playoffs so he didn't start in 3 different playoffs. Chad is also the only Jets QB to win a playoff game in 2 different playoff years.
I can go 10 Here's 6-10 6. Al Woodhall 7. Troy Taylor 8. Kyle Mackey 9. Bubby Brister 10 Browning Nagle
Vinny and Chad are about equal. I would give the slight nod to Chad. I don't think that Herm and Bradway ever got as much talent behind Chad as Vinny had with Bill. I think Chad did almost the same but with less talent around him.
What's most depressing about all this, is, outside of Joe, our all time greats couldn't start for 1/2 the teams in the league when they played. Chad can probably only start for a small handfull of teams. Vinny was pretty much available to anyone who wanted him. I think maybe O'brien as a top 10 QB in the league a few years, but, these guys aren't even all pros, let alone all time greats. But I still loved them all.
Lets remember, Chad only won 32 games at a Jets QB on on played one fulll season. Most good QB's win 32 games in 2 and a half seasons. Joe Willie won 61 Ken O'Brien won 50 Richard Todd won 42 Vinny won 35 Chad won 32
Foley! Heh. Man we've had some losers behind center over the years. Boomer was over the hill by the time he got here, but he had some pretty good games, too. And don't forget Matt Robinson and Pat Ryan. Mostly backups, but they had their share of bright moments. The fans sure loved both of them. Heh.
Don't commit suicide me friends. It's not all that bad. While the Jets history isn't great, finding excellent, long-lasting QB's isn't easy. Just try to come up with lists for other teams from the AFC East. Buffalo: Kelly, Ferguson,...; Miami: Grease, Marino,...; NE: Brady, Bledsoe. Once you get past these names you come up with guys like Woodley, Strock, Fiedler, Eason, Grogan, Reich, etc. that don't excite anybody. You could say that the Jets haven't had anyboady with the sustained excellence of a Marino, Kelly, or Brady. However, that can be said of a lot of teams in the NFL. Of course, like the Jets, these teams are in the lower 50% when you think of NFL teams with a proud history :-(. Also, #6-10 has to include Boomer and NOD (who I think Parcells jobbed in 97).
