Has the thought ever occurred to you guys that Hank is waiting out pops death/total incapacitation and the opening of the new building to cash in on the billion plus dollars he and his brother will be due once they sell? For years all's the public heard was how Georges sons had no interest in the baseball business. Suddenly George goes down the tubes and they're dreaming of world series rings? The Yankees are worth a bundle. I bet Hank and his brother took over to keep other people from doing too much damage to their inheritance while George slowly circles the drain. That makes the most sense, more so then they're all the sudden baseball guys. IMHO all's Hank et al are doing is going through the motions of looking like they're trying to field a team the fans can get behind while counting down the days till Yankee Stadium 2.0 opens and they can get a payday from selling the team.
well today, michael kay said on his radio show that hte yanks must go 25-12 to finish out the season.. and i like kay on the radio, so i will give his theory a shot.. 24-12 now.. 1-0 since he has said that.. also... tampa/sox lose.. keep the faith.. an old slogan that went along way for a diff. team. but cmon now.. we win 2morrow.. thats huge going into weekend with orioles, who just put closer on DL
Our middle of the order hitters aren't even sniffing the baseball. I refuse to get excited for this team at this point. If they win, say, the next 6 in a row, then I'll start believing. They've got a tough one tomorrow, then a series against a team we should eat alive but don't, then the Sox. They could do it, but the chances are very small at this point. They're even on the outside looking in at the wild card. That's not good in the last week of August.
I know Halladay always pitches well against us but we have to find a way to scracth out some runs and win this game today. We cannot afford to drop another series. We are 5 out in the L column frm the WC right now and we play Boston next week. If we can pick up a game or 2 by that series we'll be in ok shape.
I'm sure if he doesn't win the Cubs Cuban would be the guy and I would be fine with that. He would be the perfect replacement for George. He's a fan and willing to spend whatever it takes.
The day Mark Cuban becomes Yankee owner is the day I start rooting for the Yankees AND Mets. I love Mark Cuban and would wish him nothing but success with the Yankees. By the way, what are Hank and Hal both doing in Tampa? If I was part owner of the Yankees I would have at least a condo in Manhattan and attend most, if not all games. Hank could not even make it up here for the Yankees Old Timers game. I think the sons are only interested in their pocketbooks, which kind of explains why they did not spend the money on Santana.
I don't think that's why they didn't bring in Santana. No matter what they would have paid Santana, it's a selling point if that's their intent. I still firmly believe there was far more than met the eye regarding the Santana situation, not the least of which being Cashman's input to preserve the youth. You could be spot on with the Steinbrothers though. They may only be concerned with their profits. Obviously they weren't that into the team, if old George was planning on handing the reigns to his son-in-law.
Not trading for Santana had more to do with not trading prospects and Santana's scary MRI results than it did money.
Scary MRI? That must have been Yankee doctors looking at them. When is the last time he missed a start in the major leagues? This year his ERA is 2.74 in 177 innings pitched and 148 strikeouts.
Actually, it wasn't a big issue until the Mets doctors looked at him. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blo...espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=olney_buster
Hmm seems Hughes and Kennedy have had more injury issues then Johan. Not to mention Melky sucks balls.
Sure, but that's not for lack of trying. He's willing to spend money, and he's not a lame owner who just sits on his investment. He'll spend money if he believes it will help his team. You really can't ask for more than that.
Pavano got the call for Saturday. Too bad it's not a home game so that when he pitches his no hitter they could boo him off the field.
I happen to like Cuban but just spending money isn't the answer and spending too much can hurt like george in the 80s and this decade and the redskins. I want samrt owenership not guys that just want to throw around $$$ for FAs.
