I can't believe this Pussiness from some of you. Scared of Injury in football? then go watch Poker. He needs plays. He needs more work for the Time he missed @ Full speed. 1 quarter is enough as long as it's with the Starting O-Line. (1-2 series is likely if he does go) 2 Quarters is better (although he wont come close to that if he does play) What does he get in 1 Quarter? MORE WORK with reading, Audibles pretty much everything from an actual GAME. If that Equates to less INT's, C to QB fumbles or a few more 1st downs then it's worth it because that could be the differences down the line between W&L's
Mangini votes no. Although he wants to confuse us all with non-sequitor aeronautic analogies, I think it's pretty clear where things are going. (from AP, google it -- sorry it won't let me post link)
He absolutely should not play. This has been a bad news pre-season for a lot of teams. He's a pro, he will get the experience he needs in practice. Philadelphia won't play any of their regulars and has already been pointed out then what is the sense? Have somebody trying to make the team put an extra hard lick on him?
If he was on the team for awhile and understood the playbook then fine theres no need to throw him out there for the final preseason game but in favres case he still needs to learn the playbook and get on the same page with everybody else so i say keep him in there about 2 series then take em out. I Doubt Mangini will play him though.
Please do tell me what he will learn about the playbook from taking 8-10 snaps Thursday night? Any play he runs he will already know. Those he doesn't run he won't learn while he is in the huddle calling a different play.
With the Jet's luck and Qb history, there's no way Farve sees action this weekend. Especially against marginal, tier 2 guys playing for their professional lives. Let Clemens start for at least 1qtr. If he fails to move the team, Ratliff. This should be the game that determines whose #2 on the depth chart at Qb instead of Farve memorizing one more play..
I also think it is more important for Clemens and Ratliff to each play a half so everybody can see who really deserves that #2 role.
It's not a matter of courage or the lack thereof. Your stated reason would probably make more sense if you had a 2 to 3-yr veteran learning a totally new playbook. I can't say that it makes sense for a 16-yer vet to work on his "reading the defense" skills. Favre has probably forgotten more knowledge about reading defenses than most QB's in the league know. Learning the new terminology of the Jets playbook can be safely done at practice and in the video room. Not as a walking bull's eye for wannabe NFLers. It makes absolutely no sense to expose a 38-yr old QB to potential harm from overly-eager or desperate 2nd and 3rd stringers. Absolutely none.
I disagree. There is a difference in reading the defense and reading a defense with a 100% new playbook, Vet or Not. If there wasn't, Starters would barely play at all. To put all the eggs on his "verteranship" is wrong-imo.
Wont he learn more actually leading the offense then sitting on the sidelines sipping gatorade with shotty ? 8-10 plays is better then none.
No he shouldn't. Period. If the CS decides to play Favre then they obviously won't put him behind the backup line. Putting our starting o-line and starting QB into a meaningless preseason game for a few reps is not worth it at all. I highly doubt 6-10 reps against the Eagles backups will have any effect on Favre's game in Miami. All it does is put players at risk. The depth this team has at T,G,C, and QB is shitty and one single injury could cripple the offense. Pussiness? Nothing is more pussy-like to me than losing 12 games because of an unnesessary injury to a starter in a worthless game.
No..we won't. Anything he calls in the huddle he has already called in practice a dozen times or more.
Right and chances are if they were to run a new play and it worked on 3rd-4th stringers its still not a good litmus test to see if the play can work in a game scenario.
Play absolutely. #4 needs the reps pure and simple. Favre does one thing that has kept him healthy for a 1/6th of a century at QB in the NFL, he throws and backs up, throws and backs up been doing it since 92' and still does.
I voted "Sure let him play a few series". What tipped the scales for me was when I heard that he used to play a couple of series in the last PS game at GB. So, if that's his routine, I'd let him stick with what has worked for him in the past.
2 series for Favre isn't going to make the Jets offensive playbook "click" inside his head. It's a stupid risk.
I did vote for "A few series" but, now that I think of it, I should have voted for ABSOLUTELY NOT. Look. It's short week of practice - meaning the body couldn't possibly have recovered well enough as it would have been in normal week (6 days of recovery). All the starters should sit out, and 2nd team and 3rd team should get ALL the work for the final game. The LAST thing this team needs is an injury - and injury in pre-season is just about as stupid as it gets. NO.
