I wouldn't be so sure of that. They have lost 5 in a row. Gone backwards since getting Ramirez and are playing in the most pathetic division in baseball. We might be 20 back now if he was still here. Let's not forget we have played the entire year with 2 starting pitchers. It has been worse than last year by a mile.
Only one team is going to win the World Series - everybody else is going to go home to some level of disappointment. But its nice to be playing meaningful games during the month of September and not just playing out the string.
You have to get there first, and I really don't think you will. The one advantage you do have is the number of home games left. That helps.
it also helps when you have the best hitting in the league and one of the deepest rotations... the pen could be our downfall though.
Well, that and a 2 1/2 game lead for the wildcard. And 6 head to head games against Tampa. If the Sox go 5-1 or sweep those games, that's the division right there.
After watching the guy every day for almost 5 years now I'd say it's safe to say that. We made a huge mistake re-signing him after last year. As great as he finally was during the reg season he still didn't show up in october, that should have told the yanks to just let him walk. He's our best player supposedly and supposedly the best player in baseball. he needs to step up and lead this team on the field. if he was doing his job it would take some pressure off the rest of the lineup and we'd be much better for it.
come on the guy had like 20 walkoff hr's last year the guy could be the best player ever, or best RH hitter ever... i think there are other overrated players on the yankees that fans should worry about... *jeter*
In a contract year he had a GREAT regular season then disappeared in the postseason and this year he's back to being mr. Clutch in the reg season too. Jeter has a lifetime pass b/c he has actually done it when we needed him most unlike the fraud of a great player ARod.
The Angels could say much the same thing. Fair enough. I still don't think the Sox will make the playoffs. As I've already said, I see it being 1)LAA, 2) Rays, 3) ChiSox, WC) Twins. Getting 5 of 6 from the Rays is going to be tough. Oh great. Now we're going to spend 3 pages discussing why Princess Derek has so much more clutchosity than ARod. There are two factions of Yankees fans. One that believes ARod makes the team worse and one that actually understands baseball.
For what it's worth, Baseball Prospectus has the Sox at 90.7% to make the playoffs and PECOTA has them at 91.6%. The fact that they have a couple games lead in the wildcard and a VERY favorable schedule makes me feel pretty good about making it. Once there, I'm worried. Beckett, Lester, Matsuzaka are like 11-0 combined in the playoffs, but the bullpen is a huge question.
This talk about the Sox not making the playoffs is nonsense. They will be there. Alio, you made a statement yesterday that if the sox lose this yankee series theyre all but done. why would you say that? I meant to ask yesterday but ive been real busy with my litter. You said something like whichever team loses this series is done. That only applies to one team, Cashman's.
I can't wait for A-Rod's first at bat tonight. That much booing can create a tornado. ...on the other hand... A-Rod can join Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" Tour as one of her back-up dancers in October.
I think Pujols or Hanley Ramirez could make a case by this point, but that's just the natural progression of the game.
They need to move A-Rod out of 4th and put Matsui there. If he can't handle pressure/clutch situations, take him out of that f*cking spot already. Matsui was the 4th hitter before A-Rod got here anyway. Bat A-Rod 6, move Giambi down. I don't care about all this lefty-lefty bullshit, they mad their bed with a heavy lefty lineup, lay in it.
