While I don't want to get too excited (the Dolphins are not good), I saw a lot of encouraging signs on defense. The big thing I noticed was the much improved run defense. It seemed like we were able to get an initial hit at the line to slow down Ricky Williams on nearly every play. I also noted several tackles for a loss. That is a really good sign. Kris Jenkins is a HUGE upgrade over D-Rob.

The other really good thing from the defensive front was it looked like we were getting good pressure on Pennington with a 4 man rush. I would have liked to have seen more blitzing....in fact, in my opinion, not bringing the heat, was the reason Miami was able to get back in it.

And it was hard not to notice Calvin Pace. That guy is gonna be a stud for us. We need to find more ways to get him free. I didn't think Gholston played poorly at all, but with Pace and a resurgent Bryan Thomas, we may not need him to be a major contributor right away.

As stated everywhere here, CB is going to be our area of strength. Lowery may turn out to be better than Revis. I look forward to those two shutting down receivers for years to come.

I expect to see this unit get better and better as the season progresses.

It's opening day, and it is GOOD DAY to be a Jet fan!!!

Lowery better then Revis? Man you are starting to sound like me, but I wont disagree just yet. Revis is a stud, but Lowery is a 4th rd gem, and we all know how well those have been turning out for the Jets. It doesnt hurt that he went to SJSU

You sound pretty excited. Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet, and wait until we've played an actual playoff contender.

Hell yeah...holding Miami RBs to under 50 yards is big time D. If we can continue to stop the run we will be an outstanding D. And if we have an oustanding D we are gonna be a team to be reckoned with well into the playoffs.

No offense to you, but Revis has a chance to be the BEST corner in the game, lowery can be a nice compliment.. He literally shut Ginn down.

D line was very good today.

Lowery was excellent at CB. And as a rookie starting his first game, it was just unreal.

    I liked the sacks.

I just hope we don't get in a habit of playing so soft when we have a lead in the fourth. It almost cost us the game. We need to continue to blitz and put pressure on the QB even when we're ahead.

If theres one thing I always wanted the jets to have, its a dominating defense. A defense that makes teams fear the meadowlands, a defense that flies to the ball and lays hats on people, a defense that no one wants to face.

Maybe we have it, maybe we don't; but whatever it is, its on the way. Shhhh.

if they stop the run like they did today, this team is heading to the top of the division.

49 rushing yards for the Fins.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but remember. Pennington was their QB. Now do you guys see why TJ was held to a paltry 69 yards/game? (That translates to 1100 yards) We could just do the same - stacking the box - and still get away with it simply because Pennington just can't throw the deep ball (unlike Favre, who again threaded a long one today)

word.... Penny makes D's stack the box, which makes it hard to run. Favre gets respect, which makes the holes open... Gotta love this new QB huh?

The defense was mostly spectacular (not the play calling so much but the players performance). I will say though that going into next year three of our top needs going into the draft will be on D (safety, ILB, NT).

It doesn't matter how bad the Phins are- even when they sucked, they ran all over the Jets defenses of the past two years. This run defense is miles ahead of where it was in 2006 and 2007.

Agreed. Replacing Robertson with Jenkins was possibly the best move the Jets made this offseason. Now all we have to do is find a replacement for Pouha and we're golden.

Absolutely it was. All the moves were nice, but the Jenkins signing is the best of the bunch.

I agree but I think we gave up too many shorts passes over the middle. Harris and Barton have to get better in coverage. Nitpicking, I realize, but that's what I saw.

Zone coverage sucks... why do the Jets run it with such good starting CBs on the roster?

I been pumped up about this Jets front 7 all offseason long! It was the #2 CB position that had be worried, not anymore! Lowery showed that he can play on the same field as Rhodes and Revis and I loved it!

I remember Jet fans saying Lowery could never be anything @ the CB position, saying he was built for the Safety position...I'm glad they were wrong because I never thought he could play CB like this...I'm glad I was wrong!
