I think what he's trying to say is, a qb with a stronger arm that will keep us honest or ok kind of honest will show he how improved our run d REALLY is.
i picked up Jets D/ST pretty much just for when they play miami..they were projected to have -3 points and they got 109, TAKE THAT ESPN.. and should i start them against the brady-less pats? my other D is colts
I think the Jets could have one of the best D's in all of football this year, I been saying it all offseason...Now that I seen we have a #2 CB in Lowery...I would take the Jets D is a split second over the Colts!
Sorry.....Jenkins and Lowery looked like bright spots but if the Jets were up against a first tier team today, the outcome would likely have been different. The Jets got the lucky "bounce" for a change (Favre's Hail Mary to avoid a sack) and a couple of calls or non-calls that usually would have gone against them. As it was, Pennington was one pass away from taking the game away from us. I don't think it's time to buy playoff tickets yet.
I liked the run defense, but there are some things I am worried about. We gave up a ton of yardage and 2 scores to the TEs. What concerns me most is the fact that we knew Penny would use his backs and TEs (short to mid range passes) and didn't design our defense to force the long ball. I'm not sure Sutton put a good game plan together, although Namath2Kolber might be right to blame the LBs. I am also concerned that the D line had no sacks in the last series. Clearly, we have to get to the QB in that situation. We didn't. On a positive note: Last year we would have lost this game. The offense would have been unable to run out the clock (another thing that worried me about our play today) and our D would have rolled over. A wins a win, but there is more to do. Even if we roll the Pats, SD is the place these Jets become legit.
Barton's bone head penalty didn't help matters either. He's a vet who should know to avoid the contact. Also maybe we should promote Renkart from the PS. He was great all preseason as a nickel / dime LB who primarily was in coverage. Renkart has good speed and cover ability.
I missed the game (work) but I've been hearing great things about Lowery across the board. My question is this: Will he be able to do it against a team that has a full complement of NFL caliber WR's? Miami's are garbage and as a WR Ginn is overrated. So was Lowery just shutting down inferior talent or did he really have the look of a solid number 2?
He looked solid considering it was his first game. Looks like a natural, the same impression I had of Kerry Rhodes after his 1st game.
Lowery shut down his side of the field, but that WR corps has not even a sold #2 guy. I can see a good route runner beating him up for 8 catches and 100 yrds one game, but its something that will be rare to see. He made two game saving pass breakups back to back. What rookie does that? Everyone says he carries himself like a 5 year pro. This kid is going to be something.
Honestly, I don't know if they got conservative with their defensive playcalling late in the game or that the D line simply got exhausted in the heat. There were a lot of plays late where the passrushers had absolutely no legs.
Thanks mick, that's kinda what I was expecting/hoping to hear. It would really be amazing if the Jets struck gold in the 4th yet again.
Didn't Barton have a roughing penalty in the San Diego playoff game a few years back that almost cost us that game, too???
The Phins were supposed to have a very good running game which did nto do shit against us. forgive the happy fans if we want ot be OK with us shutting down thier running game.
We have some serious talent on defense. Rhodes, Revis and Lowery look like they could make up one of the better secondary's we have seen here in a long time. Miami if they can do anything last season it was running the ball and we shut that down so good sign for the new d-line. Looks like Ellis, Pace, and Thomas will be able to put some pressure on QB's. It may take them all some time to really start clicking but I think sky is the limit once that happens.
Shaun Ellis really looked rejuvinated. He was nasty. But obviously, the story of the day was lowery. Weve been seeing it throughout training camp and preseason, but he really proved himself today in real game action. awesome to watch
With Pennington at QB, nobody is supposed to have a good running game. We all saw how that played out last year.
