It was in the Favre interview transcript on the Jets main website. Favre basically said that it was just a miscommunication. Considering that Coles has barely practiced, I don't think it's all that surprising and definitely not alarming.
Here it is, but not from the Jets site, from MSN. And I see nothing taken out of context. "Asked about missed chances with wideout Laveranues Coles, Favre noted one throw to the end zone that went incomplete. “That play was a touchdown,” said Favre. “I didn’t think he was going to do something totally different but I thought he was going to cut in just a little. We’ve never ran that play together. I don’t know what’s going to happen next week but you can see where there’s just a couple of plays where you thought that if they just get on the same page, look how good they can be.” http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/26597174/
No one game in and he is clearly a bust. WR/TE is the easiest position to come in and dominate. Look at all the 1000 yard guys their first year, there has been at least 2 in the last decade.
you know what you're right. I can't believe I tried to practice patience in the NFL. Thank You for the enlightenment sir. I'll try to be more like the angry mob and judge people immediately after one game.
I totally agree, I was watching the game and Baker is versatile and Bubba is just big and tall, really good posession type guy...he needs to get his hands together though.... Looking forward to watching Keller blosssom though, just a matter of time
That was the first thing that occurred to me when I saw so little of him yesterday, they don't want to show their whole hand to the Pats just yet. Same with Brad Smith. For a team that likes to get creative, the playcalling was vanilla against Miami.
how really can you be surprised? he is a rookie who does not block well. that limits his chances already. then you add in that he is a rookie who doesnt necessarily block well and you dont have a tremendous amount of playing time. i did see him get a penalty though yesterday. ok can we please stop riding on this poor kids jock? its starting to annoy me to the point that i get angry at him when he has nothing to do with it. please please for the kids sake stop riding his jock.
I'm not riding his jock, I expect Favre to throw to this guy a lot because he creates good matchups for us. But his number was not called a lot, because we were playing uber-conservative. He threw in 81's direction a lot at the one practice I was able to attend... he threw in Keller's direction 4 times in one drive and 4 times in the next, which was reportedly a trend in TC. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he ends up justifying the pick. Which is what TEs like him do when they are drafted in the first round. Perform early or bust early.
Can you at least get your nose out of it. lol Sorry I had to. The rest of your post I totally agree with.
Keller will get some catches this week....When your schedule is Dolphags week 1, Pats Week 2, you arent going to show much against a team you should beat on talent alone.
I think we will see more of Keller against the Pats. They have had a tough time in the past stopping athletic TEs.
Keller is fine. He simply didn't get many balls thrown his way. This game (against the reigning losers of the nfl) was not supposed to be for us to go into our playbook or really even utilitze playmakers. As much as I wanted to see the jump ball when Keller had single coverage or the deep seem, the Jets won without giving the Patriots anything to look at on film but a deep pass and a lucky 4th down conversion for a touchdown. Granted, Mangini must have been caught off guard with the Dolphins late surge. Anybody else see Keller praying in the endzone for like 20 min before the game? He was so happy after the game, even with no catches; he's a great team player, the real deal. Don't be surprized to see the rookie snap against the Pats on the home field.
We will win way more games when the run game is going on and Favre is using the pass accurately to keep the D honest such as 15 for 22 @68%. Another gets called back because of a penalty and the pass interference that would have gone for 50 or so to Coles. My hope is a healthy Favre throws for a modest 3200-3300 yards with 28-30 strikes and we will be 13-3. If he is putting up big numbers we are in some real desperate games, the line is collapsing and thats where the gunslinger rep comes in. So, Keller is fine and Favre uses all his receivers. I have seen games when 10- 11 guys catch passes and the average is 8. Last year he liked going to the #5 WR, get open and you get some chances.
Can you guys imagine a 3te set at the goal line? Play action pass? I think Keller will be the best of the 3 by years end.
