On ESPN right now... that sucks for him and the Chargers. The AFC is up for grabs now, Jets have a legit shot of making the SB or at least AFC Championship if they can stay healthy.
Not surprised. This will help us out on Monday in 2 weeks, although I didn't think he would be productive against us considering he would be injured already going into the game.
I was shocked that he decided to play after four different orthopedic surgeons advised against it. I can't believe the Chargers would have even allowed him on the field - it seems like it could have affected his whole career.
Pittsburgh is now the favorite in the AFC and they're not a great team just a very solid one. Wow, New England, San Diego and apparently Indy all take major hits in the preseason or opener. Who would have seen that coming?
When the season ends, then lets worry about seeding in the playoffs... for right now, lets make the playoffs.
Yea, least we forget that the Steelers, Titans, Jags, Colts, Chargers, and Pats our still out there. Also the Bills and Browns. The AFC is looking wide open, but its week one and way to early to say a team coming off 4-12 has a Legit shot. A chance is there but a ton of football is left to be played. I'll feel better if we beat a couple of real teams instead of the phins.
What I have wondered from the beginning. Did Merriman have incentives in his contract? I never heard anybody mention a word about it. It would be the only possible reason I could see that would make him try to gut it out with an injury as bad as he has.
No idea, but incentives or not this was areal dumb ass move. Your not only hurting your body more, but hurting your team by playing at far less then 100% and setting back your rehab for next year.
I don't know the rules of the salary cap but a former player who I know (go figure he played for the Pats) told me if they place you on IR before the season you only get half your salary but once the season starts if you go on IR you get all of it. Teams use this to beat the salary cap with guys they wanna keep but it looks like Merriman burned the Chargers with this rule.
I heard some discussion on ESPN radio that said he found that playing with a brace just wasn't working. He got sweaty and the brace kept sliding around on his leg. He didn't feel he was getting the support from it he needed. End of Season.
As a Pats fan I'd have to say this is a shame....always sucks to see a good player get hurt. Then again, I'm not classless....had I been, I'd say yippee like most classless folk.
As a pats fan you should be more worried about that "tackling dummy" that's starting for you on Sunday.
