Look, I know things looked bad last night. What I saw looked like a bunch of average players being coached poorly. It was about as ugly as it could be.

That said, I originally thought we'd start the season 1-2, and that is where we are. The schedule gets much easier from here on out, and the team will grow with Favre leading them. But they had better grow quickly.

I'm not defending the team from last night. The entire team failed (and the embarrassing lack of depth at NT was exposed as well). The bulk of the blame has to go to Mangini and the coaching staff. The defense was not just non-aggressive, they were actually passive. The talent is there, but the coaching doesn't seem to be.

I still think this is a playoff team, if the coaches can pull their heads from their rectums. Just don't quit on them yet. They can still do this.

However, if the rest of the season goes this way, then Mangini better be back in the mail room. Or anywhere that isn't HC of teh NYJ.

It's not the record that's disturbing, it's the way we've played. So far, it certainly looks like this team is moving backwards and that's pretty hard to do when you were 4-12 the previous year. Even at 4-12, the Jets were really only blown out of a couple games. A lot of losses (Giants, Cleveland, Washington for example) just came down to not making plays late in the 4th Quarter. The last 2 games this year have been disasters from start to finish and I would be saying 3 games if the Dolphins had scored on their last possesion!

They were beaten badly by a much better team. Fans have lost perspective on the fact that San Diego is a Super Bowl caliber and the Jets are not.

Outside of offensive line, the Chargers are clearly better at every offensive position. The same can be said of the defense. Nobody has yet questioned Mike Tannenbaum for this collection of talent. Vince Lombardi couldn't coach this team to Super Bowl level. Mangini is doing poorly, but let's face facts, this is not an elite roster.

Brett is only about to turn 39, he has a long bright future ahead of him with the Jets.

Then why was Favre brought in here? Why do you interrupt your rebuilding of a team, stall the development process of your young QBs and your offensive system to roll the dice on miracle, last-piece-of-the-puzzle 39-year old?

I agree the Jets need a lot more pieces, which is why Favre was the wrong move.

He was brought here to show the future QB's how to run around like a chicken with your head cut off and throw bad picks.

yeah, you thought we'd get beaten by Matt Cassell and be blown out against the Chargers? good thing all that matters is the loss and not how the games were actually lost.

The talent is not there! And, the coaching sucks! Why do people keep saying the talent is there? We have no depth at D-line as we saw last night. We have very suspect linebackers, none of which can cover a damn tight end.

We have no number one WR, we do not have an explosive RB. Our O-line is improved but it certainly isnt blowing anyone off the line, and we have a 39 year old QB whose best days are way behind him. This team is not even close to being a serious contender for anything, period.

That's ridiculous to say Favre was the wrong move--I would mention leadership as only one of the many reasons to have him here--

I got a dose of reality--I thought the Jets were as a good as any other team in the league but it is obvious that SD is a superior team.

The talent on paper is here for a playoff run--we need to improve every game to maybe have a chance to beat SD in the playoffs.

Truly, the team seemed uninspired at times--like the opening drive of the 2nd half. We're stuck with Mangini and crew and we just got to hope for the best. Maybe we begin to turn it around next week.

This is exactly the problem I have with the Jets' whole approach to this season. The Jets FO seems to have fooled themselves into thinking that this team can win now. They have acquired a number of high priced veterans as "missing pieces to the puzzle" but the harsh reality is they are not even close to being a championship caliber team. At the end of the season, when we're 6-10 or at best 8-8 where will this spending spree have gotten us??

thats exactly right. And since we know we're still a long way off, Favre was a meaningless pick up...sadly, we probably dont have anyone on the roster that we can say is being stunted by Favre being here...unless Ratliff turns out to be something

that's not where it is. an expected 1-2 record is irrelevant unless you expected them to lose the way they did.

Poor coaching (dumb penalties, burnt timeouts, terrible playcalling), poor roster descisions (Brad Smith, Wallace Wright, 2 punters, 2 Kickers, 4 QB's, 4 TE's), no backup NT

I think you're all jumping of the bridge too soon. Getting Favre was NOT a mistake at all. There have been mistakes, certainly, but that isn't one of them.

I still think this is a damn good team. We'll see whether or not they play to their potential, but I think it's too early to start throwing dirt on the season.

And that right there is a pretty sad commentary on our QB situation. In my opinion, the failure to draft or acquire the Jets' QB of the future will be the undoing of the Mangini/Tannenbaum regime. The Jets had better pray that they catch lightning in a bottle with Ratliff because I will bet my left testicle that Clemens will never be THE GUY. If he does, I'll be thrilled and you can just call me Lance Armstrong!

yeah it's waay to early ro be in full out panic mode........jeez let the season unfold a little here. No doubt it was an extremely ugly loss......and a failure in every aspect of the game..........but it was the chargers and it was on the road on a Monday night early in the season.......let's keep a little perspective here.

We have the Cards next, a bye an then what, the Bengals? There's no reason they shouldn't turn this around and be 3-2 after this stretch.

If the defense has a repeat performance of last night, then 'll worry

I really felt that we'd be 1-2 at this point. I mean, for those who thought we were winning 12-14 games this year - I guess the reality of the NFL is starting to kick in

agreed, QB will be the undoing of Tangini...maybe they have one draft left....passing on Cutler might be what keeps them up at night when theyre working at gas stations
