jesus i mean he can't even beat out drew coleman for playing time?! i'd at least like to see him back on special teams.
I've pretty much given up on this kid. I hope he proves me wrong, but if he hasn't shown anything by now, when is he going to?
The guy was fast...we all figured he could be a semi-shutdown corner. I really don't think this guy has any football smarts. He's always getting frozen on the play action...he never turned his head around when defending the fade route in the end zone. I just don't think he's a good corner, period. Sure, he's fast and returned a few kickoffs...but you cannot occupy a roster spot in the NFL anymore, and just do ONE thing. You need to contribute in other areas, and I just don't think Miller can hack it. I'm sure the "setbacks" that Mangini is referring to, are the hundreds of times he continues to get burned in practice on the same freaking plays.
No coach has been good for him. Consider that he played high school, college and professional football for about a decade and he still is a guy with loads of natural ability, but not much skill.
^I'm just not sure about what's going on with him. In 2006, he was tearing it up on ko returns and playing corner. Next thing you know, he's not playing corner, and his KO returns go down. I argued with this guy Ira on the nyjets.com at the time saying he lost something when he was sat down--be it a rhythm, confidence, or whatever--he was no longer the same returner when he wasn't in the secondary too. Ira said they were kicking away from him--that's not how I saw it so, I'm still left with my conclusion that he was basically the most dangerous return man in the league at the time, and then Mangini got on his case and pulled him, even from the nickel. Then, he got "hurt" in 2007 and then "hurt" again in this Spring. I can't help but think there is a mental part of this whole thing and that it would be better for him to get out from under Mangini. I think he can do better on another team and that EM is mind-f**king him--my opinion.
I don't see how you can blame Mangini. He sucked at CB under Herm (a former DB coach). Now he sucks under Mangini (a former DB coach). Two of the best regarded DB coaches in the league have worked with this trainwreck of a football player. JM is the common thread, not the coaches. His fault.
Can you put up some stats that shows he sucked in '05? I don't recall him being singled out at all during that season. He was a rook, right? He did a good job for a rook-- In 2006 he had good numbers before being benched--he wasn't specifically burned either--it was like some general thing Mangini didn't like. YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF 2005 NYJ 16 42 34 8 2 0.0 0 2006 NYJ 16 53 46 7 6 0.0 1 If my memory serves the Cleveland game was the first game in 2006 he was benched. So he started 7 games in the secondary and had 6 PD's, and 53 tackles. I don't know how many came after game 7 but not too many. Still, I am interested in some data supporting your position that he sucked in 2005 and as a starter in 2006.
JMiller has become 1 of the most frustrating JETS in recent memory. Flashes of speed, a decent amount of athletic ability, but ZERO football smarts. You really dont have to be a football expert to see the stark difference between him and Dwight Lowery ----- who after only 3 full months of Pro Football, seems to have a much better grasp on things than JMiller does. Another Boobway disaster.
I watched the games. He did not help to improve the secondary. Therefore, he sucked. His coverage skills have not improved (and the data would say he has regressed) since his rookie season, despite having some of the best developmental DB coaches available. He is a weak link. Goodbye. Don't have time right now, but 2 PD in his rookie year vs. 17 by Revis is a telling stat. The guy was a second rounder.
