One thing I took away from yesterdays game is it wasnt the same ol Jets this time. How many times after a big win did we come out at home in a game we were supposed to win and stink up the place. Could have easily gone down that road after the early fumble and score. But we didnt and that says something to me. I know I have had my hopes up before but I really think we have a shot at it this year. Yes a lot has to happen. But each week something improves. This week it was our defense again , kicking game was good and Joneses 3 tds were sure nice. Definetly nice to be looking forward to the next game then dredding it.
I'm reserving judgment until week 8 against Bills. Only chance I'll make an judgment before then is if we lose one or two of the games before then, and the judgment would be the opposite of yours. But there is no way I'm going to even START to think "we have a shot at it" until at least the Bills game.
Thank you, been some glimmers of hope here and there. But to this point they have been dashed usually in games like yesterday
Have we won anything in the last 12 years? If that answer is no then we are the SOJs just like we will be this year if we do not win the SB
With apologies to Bill Clinton, it depends on what "it" means. You're a Green Bay fan, your "it" is probably different than our "it". We start with "it" being not going down the tubes by Halloween, then having a shot through the end of the year, then however far we can get past that.
The it for me comes at different times. Many many years when I was a young and naive Jet fan the "it " came as early as the pre -season. Then there were the years where we would win 10 in a row and I thought we had it. Lastly there would be the year we almost made it and a few moves were made in the off season to fix the leaks and then on opening day we lose our Qb. Or 2 Qb's another year. So when I see all the moves we have made. What I would consider a very good offensive and defensive line. A decent linebacking core. Good corners, and safeties. Excellent punt and kick returning Good Rb's( still need more from them) And now a passing attack. I get a little antsy . Then when I see us ring it up , one week and then come out the following week and come out flat early like we so often did in years past.... But turn it around and win a game that we often lost in years past.I start getting pumped. I feel the more snaps Fahre gets with our offense the better we will get. The defense is also getting better as long as Jenkins stays healthy. Add to all this our schedule . We got2 more games against crappy teams to polish up our acts for Buffalo. And I start to look towards the possibilites. So I guess thats where my "it" is right now. No need to break out the Blue dress yet, but a cigar or 2 couldn't hurt
I have to agree with NYJUNC. The jets have had a tremendous amount of success over the last 10-12 years. Yes winning a Superbowl is the end all be all of progress in this league , but to say the same ole Jets have taken the field year after year is absurd! Now you have what I call "typical Jets $#it". Example. Jets up by 3 with 3 second to go . we have them stopped on their side of the field. The quarter back throws up a brick and it bounces out of a Jets defenders hands right into the other teams hands and they run it in for a winning score. Another Example would be : The Jets are driving for the go ahead score and the opposing teams line backer makes a tackle and they stop the game to congratulate the linebacker on his record setting tackle, thus stealing the momemtum. Typicle Jets $#it!!!!! We are not the team of the mid 90's by any sense of the word!
Agreed. It's interesting, as a Dodger fan I was watching the Cub fans last week, and as soon as we got a couple runs the whole crowd dropped their heads in their hands and the atmosphere of the entire building changed. I recognized that doom from so many Jet games I've been to, where as soon as something goes wrong the whole crowd turns and the home field "advantage" becomes a negative. You can't tell me the Steve Bartman thing affects any other team the same way, everyone just lost it after that happened, and they were 5 outs from the World Series. When you think about it, players, coaches, GMs, and owners come and go. There's even a brand new practice facility in a new state, we'll be moving into the third stadium in a lot of our lifetimes. But what is the one constant? The fans. Watching the Cub fans, it occured to me that maybe we are the dark cloud that hangs literally above the team from one year and generation to the next. The Joe Beningos of the world that feed off of that kind of mentality. Just a thought.
junc.... are you serious about that statement above?? i would bet every jet fan had their sphincters tighten several times yesterday beginning with the fumble return for a TD and not ending until the late TD to put it away. i turned to my wife after Q1 and said i have seen this type of game dozens of times and they are going to blow it..... obviously i was wrong and a wins a win but i need to see a win like that at buffalo, denver, or even NE to get my juices flowing again. best, jil
I don't know that that's exclusive to the Jets or a "same old Jets" thing. Any time you blow a bunch of scoring chances, dominate a team all day and are still up less than a TD late, you worry that one misstep will cost you the game.
To funny I was in a bar and we were up after that last touchdown and my friiend on the phone said he was heading home from where he was and I looked at the guy sitting next to me and he said still a lot of time left. I stayed till the end. I have seen to many crazy endings in my 35 years watching the Jets some even going are way. Most of the time however that wasnt the case
I left the Bengals game early in 2001, pissed off at a miserable performance, and Vinny pulled the game out by the time we got to the car. You think I'd have learned from the 2000 MNF game. Now I smoke weed first and I don't get so mad, it's a lot better.
Post Parcells has been a different attitude for this organization.... maybe, just maybe, things will continue to shape up and get even better, but sustained success is the next step.
